About this role

This is an exciting time to join us, as we grow and expand our global programmatic work and team.  

The Head of Education and Community Engagement is a key leadership role, providing strategic and technical direction for SPANA’s education, community engagement and Social Behaviour Change Communication (SBCC) work. The postholder will develop tools and approaches, ensure interventions are contextually relevant and evidence-based, develop key relationships and support partners to deliver high-quality programmes that improve the lives of working animals and the communities who depend on them.

The role sits within SPANA’s Global Programmes Department (GPD) and works closely alongside colleagues in other GPD teams responsible for Animal Health and Welfare (AHW), Programmes and Data and Monitoring, Evaluation, Learning and Accountability (MEAL).

Salary, contract and location 

This is a permanent, full time (34.5 hours per week) role based in the UK, with regular (1-2 times per month or more if preferred) attendance in SPANA's London office. 

The salary for this role is c.£55,000-£60,000 subject to experience. SPANA also offers employees a range of benefits including:

We have an exciting opportunity for an emerging lawyer with exceptional writing and communication skills and a passion for fighting corruption and injustice, to join our small and growing team as a Legal Fellow. 

This one-year fellowship offers a unique springboard for an aspiring barrister or solicitor through its combination of practical legal experience (encompassing commercial, public and criminal litigation) and specialist policy exposure in the fields of economic crime and corruption.

Who we are

Spotlight on Corruption is a UK-based charity, founded in September 2019, that shines a light on the UK’s role in corruption at home and abroad. We want to see a society with strong, transparent and accountable institutions which ensure corruption is not tolerated and democracy flourishes both in the UK and globally.

We track how the UK is implementing its anti-corruption laws and monitor the effectiveness of anti-corruption enforcement in the UK. We build the evidence base for reform through our unique court monitoring programme as well as investigative research and extensive engagement with experts and frontline practitioners. The successes of our legal work include intervening in a major Court of Appeal case to safeguard the UK’s anti-money laundering regime, supporting a challenge to reveal the identity of a major political donor in a dirty money case, and winning the right to publish the jury bundle in a high-profile trial about a corrupt arms deal. 

Acting as policy entrepreneurs, we develop innovative and pragmatic solutions and disseminate our work through hard-hitting reports and briefings to inform decision-makers and the general public. We follow through with dogged advocacy, working in a highly collaborative manner to build consensus for reform.

What we are looking for

We are looking for a recent law graduate or early career professional with an outstanding eye for detail, strong analytical and research skills, and demonstrable experience in writing and communicating persuasively.

Working closely with our tight-knit and dynamic team, you will help deliver our unique court monitoring programme by following major cases related to corruption and economic crime that are heard in the UK courts. This work will give you invaluable first-hand exposure to legal proceedings across a range of courts and tribunals in England and Wales – not only high-profile criminal prosecutions and asset recovery proceedings, but also major commercial litigation and other civil claims, as well as judicial review proceedings and regulatory enforcement action.

As the legal fellow, you will benefit from the mentorship of a leading barrister as well as other support when drafting court applications or submissions and scoping potential opportunities for strategic litigation that could advance Spotlight’s advocacy objectives. Working closely with the Deputy Director, you will also engage with other top lawyers who serve on Spotlight’s strategic litigation advisory board. In the course of this work, you will help build our relationships with the legal sector as well as strengthen our relationships with law enforcement agencies, civil servants, journalists, and civil society partners, particularly in the Global South.

Drawing on your close monitoring of court cases and engagement with law enforcement agencies, legal practitioners and other experts, you will contribute evidence-based research, briefings, blogs and commentary on core areas of our work. This will require forensic attention to detail, strong quantitative and qualitative research skills, and a flair for communicating complex issues in a compelling and accessible way. 

You will be confident working with complex legal materials and following court proceedings while showing enthusiastic, creative and strategic engagement with the broader policy issues arising from our casework. You will feel comfortable drafting briefings to inform parliamentarians and influence decision-makers as well as contributing blogs and rapid-response social media commentary on key developments to advance Spotlight’s key messages.

The successful applicant must be London based in order to attend court hearings and regular team meetings. 

Key Responsibilities: 

• Checking court lists, attending court hearings and writing accessible, high-quality monitoring notes

• Assisting with the drafting of applications and representations to the court on open justice issues including access to court documents and reporting restrictions orders

• Developing case studies for our corruption cases database

• Drafting briefings, blogs, social media content and other outputs on legal developments and implications of cases

• Preparing and presenting briefings on the implications of cases and potential litigation opportunities

Person Specification: Essential 

• Excellent degree in law or a non-law degree with a law conversion course (GDL/PGDL)

Work Location/Hybrid Working Pattern

This role will be based at our Head Office in central London. Mothers’ Union operates a hybrid working model. Staff are required to work an aggregate minimum of 90 days per calendar year (pro rata for part timers) at our Head Office, Mary Sumner House in central London. Tuesdays are our anchor days where every staff member is expected to be at the office. The 90 days includes anchor Tuesdays. In addition, Thursday is a core working day where part time staff are expected to work, either at home or from the office as needed.

The Role 

Key Responsibilities 

Grants Administration and Co-ordination 

• Support the Programme Development & Partnerships Manager in preparing, reviewing and documenting memoranda of understanding, agreements, agreement modifications according to the needs of Islamic Help. 

• Coordination of the due diligence process with partners. 

• Support the Programme Development & Partnerships Manager to develop, finalise and monitor partner funding. 

• Support the preparation and follow-up of grants opening meetings, monthly review meetings, and grant closing meetings. 

• Ensure that office grants are processed in a timely and effective manner in accordance with our policies, procedures and standards. 

• Provide support to approved projects and ensure there is continuous oversight and support throughout the project management cycle including financial and periodic reporting. 

• Be self-administering including maintaining fundraising pipeline spreadsheets and monitoring progress against activities. 

• Maintenance of records and files in line with IH document management and IT policies. 

• Liaise with the  finance team to ensure grants have been received and are allocated / restricted as appropriate.

Horatio’s Garden is a nationwide charity creating and nurturing beautifully designed gardens in NHS spinal injury centres. We are seeking two creative, dynamic people with warm and welcoming personalities for the roles of Patient Support Coordinator, one for each of the following locations:

• Horatio's Garden Midlands, The Midland Centre for Spinal Injuries
• Horatio’s Garden Scotland, Queen Elizabeth University Hospital

You will be responsible for organising and running a range of social and creative activities for people with spinal injuries and their families and friends to enjoy during the week and at weekends, creating an uplifting, friendly atmosphere in Horatio’s Garden and garden room.

Currently the programme includes crafts, quizzes, glass fusing workshops, felting, printing, talks, painting, ceramic workshops, seasonal celebrations with lunches, baking, live music performances and social afternoons. 

You will need to be a highly organised person who is confident working independently in the garden and via Teams with the Events Programme Manager, Evie Redwood. The role is part-time, 10.5 hours a week, consisting of one weekend afternoon (approx. 4 hours), a weekday afternoon workshop (approx. 3.5 hours) and 3 hours of admin time a week. You will need to be flexible with your availability, working when patients are available – this can vary.

· Hosting creative workshops in the garden, ensuring all aspects run smoothly.

· Booking high-quality speakers, entertainers and freelance creative people to run sessions.

· Working alongside session facilitators to support them. 

· Coordinating catering arrangements and serving food and drinks.

· Making posters and updating blackboards to promote activities, as well as   advertising the sessions via word of  mouth.

· Building relationships with NHS teams in the spinal unit.

· Handling the administrative side of the role, including risk assessments, ordering materials and budget-monitoring.

· Collecting feedback from patients, their visitors and NHS staff during and after the sessions.

Purpose

The Programme Officer will be responsible for supporting the effective implementation of project delivery activities across our portfolio, predominantly in Africa, Europe, Central Asia, and the Middle East. 

The post holder will support project delivery, ensuring quality expectations (internal and client), delivering within the scope and budgeted resources of projects, and in line with project timelines. The post holder will work closely with other members of the project delivery team, our technical team, delivery partners, and consultants to ensure projects maximise their positive impact.

The Programme Officer will also support the Senior Programme Manager to disseminate good management practice across the organisation, and advise on delivery approaches.

Main Responsibilities

The responsibilities of the Programme Officer include the following:

Project Support

• Provide support to Programme Managers in the delivery of projects, ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget and scope and comply with client contracts
• Take on the project management of assigned select projects within a determined budget/complexity threshold, ensuring that they are delivered to time and quality
• Set-up and monitor project workplans, including change requests ensuring that approvals are formally recorded and filed
• Manage day-to-day relationships with delivery partners and internal team(s) and build a solid understanding of delivery needs and timelines across projects
• Monitor and support timely client and consultant billing and invoices attached to delivery
• Support onboarding of consultants for new projects, including due diligence checks and contract preparation based on set templates
• Ensure project management software and tools are accurate and kept up to date for allocated projects
• Provide timely responses to client queries and alert the Head of UK/Kenya Programme Management of any potential risks
• Lead duty of care and travel planning for staff and consultants, working alongside administrative officers
• Liaise closely with technical colleagues, Head of team, and Programme Managers / Officers on project support needs.

 Project Financial Management

• Monitor project budget performance, capturing variances and liaising with the Finance Team and Head of UK/Kenya Programme Management
• Monitor and support the processing of consultants’ expenses/fees against contracts and client invoices against contracts
• Make recommendations to ensure financial outcomes are met with respect to time, quality and cost, and provide early warning of project overspend
• Prepare internal project update reporting including finances and resourcing using required management tools. 

Organisational Support and Business Development

• Provide support in strengthening policies, procedures, and management tools for Development Pathways
• Coordinate with wider project teams to ensure technical capacity is well planned across Development Pathways’ portfolio of projects 
• Signpost colleagues to relevant project management tools and processes, when required
• Support project closure processes as required, capturing and sharing lessons internally
• Provide ad hoc input to evolving organisational requirements as directed by senior members
• Assist with the identification and monitoring of business opportunities in donor markets, as requested
• Update SharePoint and ensure project data sheets are developed and up to date to facilitate bids for tenders
• Collate and share project information to support the Business Development and Communications department.

• An undergraduate degree in an appropriate subject 
• Up to 2 years’ experience working on project support or delivery within international development,  research and/or the consultancy sector

The main focus of the role is finding, attracting and stewarding new funders to help deliver Rising Sun’s life changing services. You will write compelling funding proposals that demonstrate the impact of our services and how we meet funders’ requirements. You will build strong relationships with grant officers from various foundations, providing regular updates and communicating challenges, solutions and successes as appropriate to develop our reputation as an effective, reliable and trustworthy organisation.  Alongside this you will be nurturing our existing portfolio of funders to help prioritise multi-year funding.

Working with you in the Fundraising Team will be the Head of Income, Partnerships and Communications, Trusts and Foundations Officer, Community Fundraising Officer and Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning Team. As part of the team you will help to develop fundraising materials such as case studies, impact reports and cases for support.

In addition, you will have excellent writing skills and experience of generating income from trusts and foundations to grow our income from this stream. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Develop and manage part of Rising Sun’s portfolio of income and fundraising activities related to trusts and foundations.
• Keep the trusts and foundations stream of the funding pipeline healthy and up to date, carrying out research into new opportunities and meeting application deadlines. 
• Write compelling funding applications that answer funders’ questions and effectively communicate the mission, services and impact of Rising Sun.
• Develop appropriate fundraising tools, such as cases for support and impact reports.
• Support the Head of Income, Partnerships and Communications to write bids for commissioned services and government funding opportunities.
• Liaise internally across the organisation to become familiar with our services and stay up to date with current trends to feed into funding applications and develop project proposals.

The Lead Coach is primarily responsible for overseeing the training room and group sessions with young people. You will help shape the training environment and will confidently adapt and deliver materials and sessions to work within the group’s development towards work readiness.

Delivery of Spear Programme - Group and 1:1 coaching [60%]

• Preparing and coaching Spear Foundation sessions and 1-1s, ensuring that young people are engaged, retained and work-ready by the end of this initial phase of the programme.

The person in this role will work as part of the operations team to ensure that all Ogden Trust programmes are delivered to a high standard. The postholder will work with programme managers across teams to administer the activities of the Trust in line with agreed systems and processes.
