Whilst the North-East is an amazing place to live, there are still challenges, with large disparities between Gateshead’s wealthier and poorer areas, and 23,600 people live in areas described as having deep deprivation. With this comes all the associated issues that poverty causes, including 1 in 4 children growing up in poverty and one of the worst levels of social mobility in the country.
Alive Church is a diverse community gathered from across Gateshead, Newcastle and the North East with a vision to see individuals, the church and communities across our region Come Alive in Jesus name. The important stuff
Salary: £27,000, pro rata
Hours: 9.00am – 5.00pm, Monday –Thursday, Part-time (with some flexibility and occasional evening or weekend work for events such as Spear Celebrations)

Key Responsibilities
Oversight of the Spear Programme
- As a confident communicator, you will lead group sessions of around 10 young people each, using coaching skills to transform attitudes to their own ability and the workplace, and to raise their awareness and maximise potential in stepping into the world of work
- Prepare and coach group and 1-1 sessions with the Spear Coach
- Ensure the programme is delivered in line with agreed targets, and report KPIs on recruitment, retention and completion of Spear Trainees to Resurgo and the Spear Trust, as well as their ongoing progress and sustainment of work or education
Partnership liaison and relationship management
- Establish the primary local referral agencies and steward relationships with these, overseeing and building a strategy to ensure recruitment of young people onto the Spear programme is effective
- Maintain and develop relationships with local partners to form a strong referral network
Line Management and training
- Manage the Spear Coach, using a coaching approach to invest in their growth and development
- Be line managed by Resurgo on Spear Programme performance and ongoing operations of the centre, and report back on KPIs
Church Community
- The Spear Centre Manager is directly employed by Alive Church, meaning you are part of a vibrant church staff team and submerged in an exciting faith community
- You will be required to establish strong relationships with key people at the church to ensure the engagement and backing of church members and help the Spear Coach to establish a strong presence at the church to build a network of supporters for the Spear programme
- Ensure the Spear programme is a key missional feature of the work of the church; this may involve attending church events and speaking at services
Site management
- Work with the Church to coordinate the training room and any infrastructure needs for the Spear Centre
- Liaise with relevant staff locally on-site issues and work to resolve them as soon as possible, ensuring the office and training room are safe and tidy working spaces in line with health and safety policies

About the Youth Endowment Fund
We’re here to prevent children and young people becoming involved in violence. We do this by finding out what works and building a movement to put this knowledge into practice.
Last year, 244 people in England and Wales tragically died after being assaulted with a knife. Of these, 32 were children. Every child captured in these numbers is an important member of our community and society has a duty to protect them. Even when violence doesn’t strike directly, we know that the fear of violence has a terrible effect on children’s lives.
The Youth Endowment Fund exists to try and permanently change things. To succeed, we must build an exceptional body of knowledge about violence affecting young people and how we reduce it. This knowledge has to be both rigorous and highly relevant to those making decisions about how to support vulnerable young people. We need to find out what works and what doesn’t through evidence synthesis, data analysis and qualitative research into children’s lives. We need to convert this into highly accessible content on what works, how delivery organisations need to change their practice and how the systems they operate in need to be reformed. We then need to work with the right people that can make change happen, across systems, policies and practice, to have a real impact on reducing violence affecting children’s lives.
Key Responsibilities
We build demand and interest in evidence across the Children’s Services sector
This will include:
- Running events, speaking at conferences and curating webinars to bring evidence to life for practitioners
- We have great relationships with the people who can make change happen.
This will include:
- Developing great relationships with senior policy makers, sector leaders and experts, including representing YEF in external meetings and speaking at events.
- Managing a Strategic Advisory Board of leading experts across the children’s services sector and keep members onside and excited about our work.
We deliver our children’s services system recommendations.
This will include:
- Helping to identify the right recommendations at a system level (such as changes in policy, regulation, inspection, funding, or guidance) that make it more likely highly vulnerable children get access to the right support at the right time.
- Work out the best way to make our system recommendations happen (due for publication in December 2026) and then do it – persuading the key people to make changes that make a difference.
- Tracking progress carefully, being thoughtful and creative about when and how to change the plan.
We work out the most effective ways to connect people with the evidence, then make those things happen.
This will include:
- Helping children’s services leaders change how they plan or provide services to better protect children from violence, based on the YEF Children’s Services Practice Guidance – due for publication in May 2026.
- Creating a plan to get people to follow our guidance, using what we know about how they think and behave.
- Creating practical tools and resources that help leaders put evidence into action
- Continuously testing and improving our approach to get better results.

About You

You must have this sort of experience.
- Delivering concrete change in practice or systems that improved children’s lives. You have significant experience in leading behaviour, practice or policy changes within a children’s services setting. You can show how these have been effective in delivering tangible change.
- Leadership experience in the children’s services system. You’ve worked at a senior level in or with children’s services - especially local authority children's services, commissioning and/or children's social care policy, and you understand how to navigate and influence within these complex systems.
- Firsthand knowledge of the system that supports highly vulnerable children, particularly those at risk of or involved in violence. You understand the barriers these children face and what it takes to get them the right support.

Hybrid Working Details

Spear Foundation
- Recruit young people onto the course and prepare them to engage.
- Prepare and deliver coaching sessions for up to 15 young people to transform their attitudes and readiness to step into the world of work.
- Work with volunteers to deliver one-to-one weekly sessions to check-in on individual progress, guide and motivate them.
- Build relationships with the young people and keep them engaged.
Spear Career
- Maintain contact with trainees and continue relationships with them to keep track of their progress into employment and encourage them.
- Maintain records through data gathering and data entry into Salesforce.
Relationship management
- Build and manage relationships with a variety of stakeholders, including referrers, local businesses and other organisations.
- Participate in job fairs, run taster sessions, recruit and support volunteers for mock interview days, and welcome visitors to the centre.
Church community
- Fully engage with the Trinity and St Paul’s staff teams, including participation in staff prayers, socials and retreat days.

Your Main Responsibilities:
- Planning and delivering BTEC Level 2 and/or 3 Sport lessons, training sessions, and fixtures.
- Supporting students through assessments, providing feedback, and ensuring they meet their target grades.
- Monitoring student progress, attendance, and behaviour, implementing interventions where necessary.
- Acting as a tutor to students, helping them achieve academic, practical, and personal goals.

We are looking for a dynamic and innovative ESOL consultant to join our team and lead on the curriculum development and delivery of our ESOL for Work courses. This role sits across our Education & Training and Research & Impact teams and offers a unique opportunity to shape future ESOL provision for people in low-paid work.
ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) is a core strand of our community education offer. Each year, we support over 200 learners to improve their English, build confidence, and engage more fully in community life. Many of our learners face significant barriers to mainstream education, particularly those juggling low-paid, insecure employment. In 2023, in partnership with The Bell Foundation, we launched a three-year research and delivery programme focused on improving access to ESOL for people in work. The project aims to better understand the structural and practical barriers faced by working learners, and to codesign inclusive, flexible models of delivery that can influence and shape future ESOL provision across the UK.
Now in its second year, the programme is expanding. We are developing new partnerships with employers in sectors such as hospitality, construction, and health and social care, and growing our flexible ESOL-for-work pilot offers. Through these pilots, you will also play an essential role in helping us to generate new insights and learning about what works and why.
We’re looking for someone who is passionate about adult education, committed to equity and access, and excited to explore new ways of delivering ESOL. You will have strong experience designing and delivering ESOL learning, ideally in community or workplace settings, and be confident working collaboratively with learners, providers, and employers to co-create effective and inclusive solutions.

And so we are looking to expand our small, trusted expert group of freelance facilitators to help us deliver this impact.

The Role
We’re looking for experienced, energetic and confident freelance facilitators to help us deliver our tried-and-tested activities — from team-building and orienteering to improv games, problem-solving challenges, debates, archery, and axe throwing. We don’t expect anyone to be experienced in all of these - every member of our team of freelancers has their own areas of expertise and choose to be deployed on particular activities that most suit their skills and experience.
You’ll be working with a diverse range of schools, from primary and prep schools, right through secondary to sixth forms, facilitating sessions to inspire teamwork, communication, resilience, and leadership.
You’ll always be working on a day under the guidance of one of our Founder Directors, Tom and Alex.
Important to know
We are looking for freelancers who may be available for work and who fit our ethos, values and activities to whom we can offer as and when it comes in.
We couldn’t do what we do without our core team of trusted freelancers. We look after those we work with by offering regular training and observation opportunities so they can expand their repertoire.
However, joining our pool of freelancers will not involve a fixed contract of employment or a guarantee of regular work. Our existing freelancers work with us anywhere between 3 - 15 days per/year. Such work offers very useful supplementary income alongside other roles at other organisations (or their own) rather than a core income. Our busiest times of year are:
September — where we deliver team building/bonding days for new year groups
May, June and July — where we deliver similar days but usually as part of school activity weeks
We anticipate further growth at these times, and also are looking to expand our offer to more indoor/lower cost days in the Autumn/Spring term. And to deliver these we will need more staff!

Role Summary
- The School Engagement Coordinator for Northern Ireland serves as a crucial liaison for the Into Film programme in the region. This role involves actively engaging with schools and educators to promote and support their participation in various initiatives related to film, games, and creative media.
- The Engagement Coordinator will be instrumental in ensuring that schools and teachers have access to the full range of educational resources, training, and opportunities offered by Into Film. They will collaborate closely with the Northern Ireland team to provide tailored support and foster meaningful connections between schools, the creative arts, and the industry.
Given the nature of the role, the Co-ordinator may need to work occasional weekends and extended hours, as well as travel regularly to designated regions and occasionally elsewhere in the UK.
Main Responsibilities:
- Proactively engage with schools, teachers, and educational stakeholders across Northern Ireland to raise awareness of Into Film's programmes and resources.
- Deliver a range of educational activities, including school workshops, screenings and industry events, tailored to the needs of the local area.
- Develop and maintain strong partnerships with schools, creative organisations, and screen industry bodies to support the delivery of Into Film's initiatives in NI.
- Contribute to the planning and implementation of Northern Ireland-specific programmes, including Story Builder, Games, Teaching with Film, Careers and Progression, and Young Creatives.
- Collaborate with teams across Into Film to ensure a joined-up approach to programme delivery, KPI achievement, and budgetary oversight.
- Ensure that Into Film's programmes respond to local needs and reach across Northern Ireland, while also feeding into the organization's UK-wide initiatives.
- Manage local partnerships and relationships, utilising CRM (Salesforce) to input and analyse data, create reports, and inform programme design.
- Support the existing Northern Ireland team with the delivery of locally funded projects and initiatives.
- Any other reasonable duties assigned by Into Film.
General Responsibilities:

Person Specification:
Minimum Requirements:
- Significant experience in designing and delivering engaging educational programmes, including youth workshops and industry-facing events.
- Demonstrated knowledge of the Northern Ireland education system, curriculum, and the local creative/screen industries.
- A track record of establishing and nurturing partnerships with schools, organisations, and industry stakeholders.
- Proven ability to successfully manage projects, including cross-departmental collaboration, budget oversight, and timely delivery.
- Experience in using data to generate reports, analyse programme impact, and inform future initiatives.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with diverse audiences.
- Strong organisational and time management skills, with the capacity to manage competing priorities and deadlines.
- This role involves frequent travel to schools, including rural areas. Applicants must have a full, clean UK driving license and access to a reliable vehicle. Unfortunately, we cannot consider candidates who do not meet these requirements.

We are recruiting for a Head of Education and Content - an experienced project manager and resource designer who will oversee the development of education materials and teacher training content at The Politics Project.
ABOUT THE POLITICS PROJECT
We support young people to use their voice by providing them with outstanding democratic education. We work with young people, teachers and politicians to help them to learn, teach and engage in politics. We are a non-partisan organisation working across the UK.
We also coordinate the Democracy Classroom network, a partnership between over 100 civil society organisations that supports young people to engage in elections.
ABOUT THE ROLE
Working with schools, sixth forms and further education colleges, the Head of Education and Content will support them to prepare for the lowering of the voting age to 16 and to engage their students in elections and democratic education.
The post holder will design and adapt resources, practitioner training, events and activities as well as manage relationships with a variety of stakeholders across the further education and civil society sectors.
Working with the Director and the Head of Programmes, the post holder will:

Collate, source and design learning resources for school and college teachers to use to support their students to engage in elections and democracy.

Support, build and manage relationships with schools and colleges.

Provide teachers and practitioners with training and e-learning around election and democratic education.

Oversee evaluation and monitoring, producing reports where required.
The job is based on a 16-month contract, with likely extension (including a 6-month probation period).
The Politics Project is based in London, and the post holder will be expected to work from the office at least two days a week. The hours of work are 37.5 hrs per week. Occasional travel to elsewhere in the UK and working unsocial hours in evenings and at weekends may be required. This is a fast-paced role in a small but growing team.

ABOUT YOU
You will have a passion for democratic engagement and experience of delivering democratic education. You will also have experience of the UK education sector and supporting teachers or practitioners.
You will be a self-starter, comfortable managing fast-paced projects with multiple stakeholders. You will have outstanding project management and administrative skills, with the ability to work under pressure and identify priorities. You will effectively deliver against set targets to agreed deadlines.
You will have experience of developing learning materials and training resources for schools and colleges and will have a clear eye for detail.
Above all, you will understand the needs of schools, sixth forms and further education colleges and the pressures they work under and be able to build relationships with teachers and support staff. You can network, negotiate, persuade, problem solve and be flexible to meet teacher and practitioner needs. You will have excellent communication skills, both written and spoken.

Other essential skills and knowledge:
