The person
You will be part of the Young People’s Services Team who provide a range of services and activities for young wheelchair users and their families. • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate at all levels.

Experience
• Experience of working directly with disabled children, young people and their families.
• Lived experience of being a wheelchair user and/or experience of delivering wheelchair skills training is preferable.
• Demonstratable experience of delivering training, teaching or coaching.

• Experience of risk management procedures.

- Implement appropriate assessment, target setting, recording, reporting and evaluation of the progress of the interns.
- Identify interns skills to enable them to participate in a variety of work-based tasks to build marketable, competitive skills leading to employment.
- Collaborate with the employers (Gardeners and Charity Shops) to create meaningful internship opportunities and facilitate successful work placements.
- To work alongside job coaches to perform specific workplace analysis, job analysis, task analysis, and job matching activities
- To seek appropriate future employment consistent with the interns interests and skills
- As a personal tutor, be responsible for the emotional and social welfare of the interns.
- Work with parents, local authorities and other supported internship stakeholders to support the progression of the interns

The Role
Being an Outdoor Learning Officer involves collaborating with schools to integrate Outdoor Learning into their curricula and provide opportunities for children and young people to have positive experiences in natural environments, focusing on underserved groups and those most in need of support. You will be responsible for the planning and delivery of our schools offer to ensure the success of Outdoor Learning programmes in the region.
Key Responsibilities:
Programme Delivery and Collaboration:
- Develop a bespoke Outdoor Learning offer to schools as part of our Foundations for Outdoor Learning and/or Enriching Education programmes, considering various factors such as location, catchment area, size and type of groups, use of resources and landscape.
- Plan and deliver Outdoor Learning sessions for eligible schools, on school grounds, in local green spaces and at Low Beckside Farm, devising activities and developing appropriate learning resources for each session and agreed outcome.
- Support the delivery of sessions at Low Beckside Farm for groups attending as part of their OWL (Outdoor Week of Learning) residential.
- Work with schools and teachers for effective delivery of programmes.
- Contribute to impact assessments through data collection, observations, and evaluation paperwork.
- Comply with all risk assessments, Health & Safety policies and safeguarding considerations.
- Build a network among schools, aligning their needs with the Trust’s programmes.
- Coordinate with other Outdoor Learning Officers for collaboration with each other and local networks.
Development and Promotion:
- Support the development of our site at Low Beckside Farm as a venue for high-quality school learning.
- Assist Learning Operations Lead in establishing and maintaining key relationships and projects and promoting Outdoor Learning programmes by attending relevant events.
- Contribute to the development of the Trust through engagement with grantees/beneficiaries in Cumbria and facilitation of the Outdoor Practitioners’ Education Network (OPEN) meetings, and explore opportunities for collaborative efforts.
- Participate in the development of learning policies and procedures, including risk assessments, Health & Safety protocols, training needs, and safeguarding.

Foundations for Outdoor Learning
This programme is a comprehensive, long-term support package for schools wanting to embed Outdoor Learning into their curriculum and practice. Support may include teacher CPD, mentoring, and advice on how to optimise use of your school grounds. We do this on your school site, with some supported visits to local green spaces and our own learning locations.
Enriching Education
This programme uses The Ernest Cook Trust’s own learning locations - woodlands, farms, rivers and other natural landscapes - together with our Outdoor Learning leaders to support a school’s Outdoor Learning provision. This may be a school’s first experience of Outdoor Learning, or it may enhance and extend existing programmes. Either way, we aim to inspire all participants to spend more time
outdoors.

Safe Evolve, Early Intervention service is a new service commissioned by the London Borough of Ealing and represent an exciting partnership with the Anna Freud. The service offers brief evidence-based individual and group interventions to address mild to moderate wellbeing needs largely using cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), trauma-informed and mentalization approaches. It consists of two teams: one a specialist schools outreach service and the second a community well-being team for children and families.

This exciting opportunity to join a dynamic and vibrant local charity also represents a growing youth work provision, which has been developing over the last 5 years with an engaged group of local young people and strong links to local schools, community groups and churches. Following the opening of the basement in September 2023, The Pelham has a designated space for children and young people to call their own. In our current work as a Community Hub, we have over 60 partner organisations and over 400 people a week coming through the doors, and our vision is to see the range of activities and partners be replicated for local youth.
As well as leading the youth work, this postholder will join part of The Pelham’s project leadership team alongside the other four core projects:
· Our volunteer-run Coffee Lounge is open 5 days a week, providing a safe and warm space in the community to over 150 customers each week.
· The Pelham as a Community Hub welcomes over 400 people through our doors each week and hire our spaces out to over 60 different local organisations that use The Pelham as a base for their valuable assistance to help people in need locally. The range of organisations covers the voluntary, statutory and small business community to create a vibrant and dynamic space.
· RunningSpace is our suicide prevention project with a vision to champion life and beat suicide through walk2run groups. We currently run sessions in five locations, across East Sussex and Kent. We also host suicide prevention training too on a regular basis.
· The Pelham Counselling Service offers individual and group work therapy sessions with its team of 9 counsellors. It offers bursaries and a flexible service to best meet the needs of local people.
In joining the team, collaborative working will be at the heart of the development of the youth work, including group therapy sessions for young people, suicide prevention work and volunteering and employability pathways.

Main Purpose of the Role:
The Youth Worker will take the leadership role in the development of Youth work from The Pelham, as part of its charitable work and community service, working under the guidance of the CEO and as part of the Project Leadership team.
The role will include having vision to develop relevant and appealing opportunities in Bexhill for young people, working together with local partners, including schools and voluntary organisations. This will include innovative options outside of our current scope of work, which may include wellbeing activities, studying support, home education, group work therapy and more.

9. To explore and respond to the local need for young people, including helping to mitigate anti-social behaviour in Sidley with increased interaction and trust building. This will include working with local partners including Heart of Sidley, Rother Safety Partnership and Sussex Police.
