This role is subject to confirmed funding.
21 hours per week, including some early evening work and some travel around the country.
£26,269.74 Full time equivalent salary with progression up to £28,920.72 per annum
£15,761.84 Pro rata salary for 21 hours per week
The Children's Society is currently undertaking a pay and grading review - this review is intended to improve our current approach; we are currently consulting with our recognised trade union and any changes are due to be implemented in April 2025.
We're really excited to be offering advocacy support to children and young people placed at Oasis Restore school, the first secure school in England. We're looking for an experienced Advocate who is committed to enabling young people to express their views on matters which affect their lives.
"Oasis Restore is a secure school enabling young people to thrive, through education well-being & hope. They care for children aged 12-18 who are on remand and sentenced to custody by the courts. Oasis Restore is aligned with Youth Justice Board's Child First principles and guided by the truth that children are different from adults. This means that each child's voice is listened to, valued, and opportunities are created for them to contribute within a school community where adults make the final decisions in the best interests of the child."
A key part of this role will be to meaningfully engage with young people by placing them at the centre of your care and listening to matters that affect them most. It will be the Advocate's responsibility to appropriately raise any issues directly with Oasis Restore or external partners on behalf of young people to improve their situation and escalate matters accordingly.
In order to be successful in this role, you be able to:
-Build relationships with children and young people in a short space of time
-Engage positively with young people and involve them in the decision- making process
-Work in a culturally sensitive, therapeutic and holistic way, recognising and responding to children's individual needs
-Manage difficult conversations and provide constructive feedback
-Manage escalating issues and crisis through responding appropriately utilising identified systems and structures
