About Us
This is an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic Charity and Housing Association. The Society of St James (SSJ) has been working in Hampshire for over 50 years, delivering high impact, person-centred, accommodation services to adults and young people experiencing homelessness, problematic substance use and/or poor mental ill health. We believe that every person is of worth and we are prepared to take risks to house and support the most at risk and socially excluded members of society.
The Role
We are looking for an applicant who can cook, healthy home cook meals and scale it up to feed 30 residents. You will be responsible for health and safety standards at all times and that the kitchen meets the required hygiene standard. You will liaise with the weekday cook to order food, plan and prepare a weekend menu with some input from the residents around choice of meals provided.
The Ideal Candidate
Part of the role involves resident engagement and enhancing life-skills, so there will be times where residents may help out in the kitchen with your guidance. You be working with people with a diverse range of complex needs, so knowledge around some of the issues people experience with homelessness will be useful, but training will be provided.
Working hours are 12.00noon – 6pm on Saturdays and Sundays. You may be required on occasion to work flexibly to meet the needs of the Service and to cover annual leave.
Good team player, reliable with a passion for working with people. This is a very rewarding position for the right person.
What we can offer you
We value and recognise our staff, offering some generous benefits, as well as the satisfaction of helping people at risk:
- A competitive annual leave entitlement of 25 days rising to 30 days, plus public holidays
- Flexible working options
- Buying additional annual leave

- Counselling, financial, personal support and health and wellbeing services via our Employee Assistance Programme
