About Us
Our Future is a growing organisation working to put communities in control of their town's future. We support local people to shape a shared vision, drive change from the ground up, and unlock long-term funding while influencing national policy to better support community-led change.
Having started in Grimsby and expanded to Rochdale, we're now building a national movement.

In Rochdale, Our Future is leading the next phase of For Generations To Come, a borough-wide movement bringing together residents, organisations and partners to shape a shared vision for the future. Through initiatives such as Round Here, local people are helping define the changes they want to see over the next decade and beyond.

The Role
As Place Associate, you'll support the delivery of Our Future's work across Rochdale, helping to build relationships, organise events, coordinate communications and provide operational support for local activity. Working closely with the Place Lead, you'll help ensure community ideas are turned into action and local voices remain at the centre of change.
This is a highly visible role within the borough and an excellent opportunity for someone who cares deeply about Rochdale and wants to develop experience in community engagement, events and place-based change.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with residents, community groups and local stakeholders
  • Represent Our Future at events and activities across Rochdale
  • Organise, coordinate and deliver community events and engagement activity
  • Support local communications, including social media, newsletters and storytelling projects
  • Help capture and share stories that celebrate community leadership and local impact
  • Provide administrative support including scheduling, record keeping and maintaining contact databases
  • Support the Place Lead in widening community participation and delivering local priorities
  • Assist with wider organisational activities when required

Experience & Skills
We're interested in the skills and potential you bring rather than a specific background. You may come from community engagement, events, administration, customer service or another people-focused environment.
You will bring:

  • A genuine connection to and enthusiasm for Rochdale
  • Strong relationship-building skills
  • Experience supporting or organising events
  • Effective written communication skills
  • Confidence using social media and digital communication channels
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
  • A practical and proactive approach to getting things done

Personal Qualities

  • Friendly, approachable and trustworthy
  • Well organised and dependable
  • Adaptable, resourceful and solution-focused
  • Collaborative and supportive
  • Positive, energetic and community-minded
  • Creative in your approach to engaging people and delivering activities
  • Passionate about helping Rochdale thrive

What We Offer

  • 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday
  • Five weeks' annual leave plus bank holidays
  • 10% employer pension contribution (3% employee contribution)
  • A supportive, values-led culture focused on trust, flexibility and impact
  • The opportunity to contribute to meaningful local change and be part of a growing national movement
