Job description

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join Derwent Training who are a well-established, successful, not-for-profit independent training provider of Apprenticeships in Leadership and Engineering within North Yorkshire. This newly created Chief Operating Officer role is a key part of the company's strategy aimed at growth, whilst maintaining the high key outputs already achieved.

The Role:

This Chief Operating Officer position reports directly to the CEO where you will be a strategic leader overseeing the day-to-day operations, translating the CEO's vision into actionable strategies. With significant growth plans over the next few years, you will be responsible for ensuring efficient and effective processes, optimising performance, and driving continuous improvement.

This is a full-time, permanent role, based on-site in Malton, North Yorkshire. This client offers a great working pattern of a 9 day every fortnight arrangement, meaning you get two long weekends off work a month, which is in addition to your annual leave.

It is essential that you need to be a car driver / owner.

Key duties include:

  • Collaborate with the CEO to set and drive the company's vision, operational strategy, and staffing needs.
  • Translate strategy into actionable steps for growth, implementing organisation-wide goal setting, performance management, and annual operations planning.
  • Oversee all aspects of company operations, ensuring efficiency, productivity, and adherence to quality standards.
  • Lead and manage a team of teaching and administrative professionals, providing coaching, mentorship, and performance management.
  • Analyse operational data to identify areas for improvement and implement process optimisation initiatives.
  • Manage budgets and resources to ensure efficient and cost-effective operations.
  • Uphold quality standards and outcomes of all training delivery ensuring a high level of client satisfaction and service requirements.

Qualifications & skills/abilities required:

  • A degree, teaching qualification and preferably a leadership & management qualification
  • Proven track record of successfully leading and motivating a team within an education setting
  • An understanding of Quality Assurance within education
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a data-driven approach
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills
  • In-depth knowledge of project management methodologies and best practices
  • Experience with budgeting and resource allocation
  • Enhanced DBS check will be processed.
  • Must be a car driver/owner.

Interview process:

Two stage - 1st stage is more informal to discuss the opportunity and your experience, 2nd stage is a formal competency-based interview.
