School Governance and Admissions Officer

The Diocese supports Church of England schools across Sussex, working to ensure every child flourishes.  The vision for education is “Deeply Christian, serving the common good.”

This is a rare opportunity for an experienced governance professional to step into a strategic, system-wide role, influencing governance practice across the large and diverse family of 154 Church of England schools within the Diocese.

Position: School Governance and Admissions Officer

Location: Hove/Hybrid (You will be expected to work at the Hove office at least 50% of the week)

Salary: £30,970 per annum (pro rata FTE £44,242 pa)

Hours: Part-time – 26.25 hours per week (0.7 FTE) - flexi time available

About the Role

Reporting to the Diocesan Director of Education, you will act as a trusted adviser and expert, supporting governing bodies, senior leaders and school trusts to deliver strong, effective and values-led governance.

You will work alongside senior leaders and governance professionals as a respected expert in your field, helping to shape governance practice across the Diocese.

There is an expectation that at least 50% of the working week will be spent at the diocesan office at Hove, unless visiting schools.

You will:

• Advise governing bodies, headteachers and trust leaders on governance, compliance and admissions
• Support Multi Academy Trusts in navigating governance and diocesan requirements
• Lead and deliver high-quality training for governors and governance professionals
• Contribute to governance reviews and improvement work in schools
• Translate complex policy into clear, practical guidance
• Build strong partnerships with schools, trusts and local authorities

About You

You’ll bring:

• Strong knowledge of governance frameworks and regulatory requirements
• Experience working with boards, governing bodies or committees
• The ability to build relationships and influence at senior levels
• Confidence in interpreting legislation and applying it in practice

This role would particularly suit Governance Professionals / Clerks looking to move into a strategic advisory role, Governance Leads within Multi Academy Trusts or Local Authority governance officers seeking wider system influence.

You will be expected to support the Christian ethos of Church of England education.

This role offers the opportunity to support and develop social action and social justice work across the Diocese of London. Working as part of the Compassionate Communities team, the postholder will help churches and communities respond to local needs by connecting, equipping and resourcing them to grow their impact.

The role involves working across a wide range of social action themes, supporting partnerships, training, events and engagement activities. It also includes helping to communicate and share the work churches are doing across local communities and contributing to wider diocesan priorities.

Job Summary

The Social Action Lead supports the development of social action and social justice work across the Diocese of London. The role works closely with churches, diocesan teams and external partners to support community engagement, strengthen partnerships and help deliver initiatives responding to local needs and challenges.

Job responsibilities

· Support churches and communities with advice, resources and connections relating to social action and social justice

· Develop and support diocesan training and engagement activities across key social action themes

· Organise and contribute to events, meetings and partnership activities

The London Diocesan Fund (LDF) is seeking an Area Giving and Finance Adviser (Stepney) to play a key role within the Area Finance team, based at Causton Street.

Job Summary

The purpose of the Area Giving and Finance Adviser role is to provide comprehensive finance support to churches within the Stepney Area, aiding them in the development of their ministries, manage Common Fund giving and to support the Area Bishop’s staff team in the management of resources including monitoring clergy post numbers, curate funding, and other financial matters. As part of a small team of Area Giving and Finance Advisers, the role involves offering training, resources, and advice on parish financial management and administration, and advice on various giving methods, including online and contactless options. Additionally, the role entails promoting generous giving through training initiatives, facilitating the award of grants and loans to churches from Area funds, and fostering effective communication and relationship-building between the Area team, Finance team, and parish officers.

Job responsibilities

Financial support 

• Enable churches to develop their respective ministries, manage their finances effectively, and meet their statutory responsibilities. 
• Provide finance and other appropriate training, support, resources and advice to the clergy, PCCs and parish officers. 
• Assist the Bishop, Archdeacons and Area Deans in managing Common Fund giving by the churches in the Area. 
• Facilitate and monitor the award of grants and loans to churches from Area funds. 
• Support the Area Bishop’s staff team and Area Council in monitoring the use of Area resources, including post numbers, curate funding and other matters. 

Giving 

• Supporting parishes to encourage a culture of generosity and giving.
• Promote generous giving through training, preaching and providing resources to clergy and parish officers. 
• Support the introduction of different methods of giving, including online, contactless, and Parish Giving Scheme. 

Relationship management 

• Build relationships with, and promote effective communication between, the Area team, Finance team, parish officers and the other Area Finance Advisers.  Work with the National Giving Team on projects that support parish ministry. 

Other duties 

• The role will require regular evening and weekend working.

• Experience of encouraging charitable giving.  
• Experience managing a wide variety of professional relationships.
• Educated to A Level or equivalent standard.
• IT proficiency (MS Office suite).
• Fluency in spoken English and ability to communicate clearly in English.

Parish Development Officer

We are seeking an experienced and enthusiastic Parish Development Officer to join the Parish Support Team and play a key role in supporting parishes across the Diocese to flourish in mission and ministry.

Working closely with clergy, PCCs and parish leadership teams, you will help parishes discern, develop and implement their vision and strategic direction. You will support cultural change, encourage growth and renewal, and enable churches to become more effective and confident in their mission within their local contexts.

You will be a practising Christian with a heart for local church growth and renewal, and with proven experience of supporting churches through change.  This is a relational, outward-facing role that involves travel across the Diocese, varied project work, and the opportunity to make a tangible difference to parish life.

Key responsibilities:

• Work with parishes, benefices and deaneries to develop vision, strategy and Mission Action Plans

• Provide practical support around leadership, team dynamics, communication and conflict resolution
• Work closely with the Archdeacons to support parishes during periods of vacancy.

• Relevant degree-level qualifications or equivalent experience
• Successful experience of leading a church into growth and implementing Mission Action Plans
