WHY THIS ROLE MATTERS

The Legal Counsel role will be joining a Legal team consisting of one senior lawyer and one paralegal, who are responsible for the management of all legal, regulatory and compliance matters relating to the Fondation’s operations across over 60 countries worldwide.

We are looking for an energetic lawyer to join our dynamic team, where you will have the opportunity to work on challenging and meaningful work as part of an innovative and ambitious growing organisation.

The Legal Counsel’s principal role will be to support the Managing Counsel with compliance and governance matters as well as the legal support for grant making activities globally. The role will lead (with the support of the paralegal) on the drafting and negotiation all grant agreements and commercial contracts for each of the regions.

This is a role that blends social justice purpose with corporate foundation rigour—supporting the Fondation teams delivering its mission in compliance with all relevant laws and best practice.

What you will bring

· A minimum of 2 years’ experience drafting and reviewing contracts. Experience working in a not-for-profit environment on grant management contracts and administration is preferable but not essential.

· Proven project management, time management, and organisation skills, with an ability to manage competing priorities across global teams.

· Strong attention to detail, ensuring accuracy and consistency in all aspects of contract management, documentation, and communication.

· An ability to quickly identify areas for improvement and make impactful changes, employing a test and learn approach

· A collaborative approach, adept at engaging stakeholders across all levels, quickly facilitating buy in and support

· Deep integrity, respect for confidentiality and discretion.

· Strong written and verbal communication skills in English. Working knowledge of French or other languages, welcome and useful but not required.

Merseyside Wate & Recycling Authority (MRWA) is committed to the highest standards of corporate governance, and our Audit Committee is a key part of ensuring that we meet those standards.

Independent Members are non-voting members of the Committee, who assist in overseeing internal and external audit arrangements, reviewing and scrutinising financial statements, and reviewing and assessing the governance, risk management and control of the authority.

Independent Members are expected to actively participate in meetings of the Committee, and demonstrate independence, integrity, objectivity and impartiality in their decision-making. They support the Committee in providing independent assurance to the elected Members of the Authority, and its wider stakeholders.

In order to achieve a broader range of experience on the Committee, the Authority is seeking to appoint an independent member with experience, at a senior level, in the one of the following key areas:

· Local Authority / Public Sector Accounting

· Local Authority / Public Sector Financial Reporting

Candidates with experience in these areas in large private sector organisations will also be considered.

Independent Members will be appointed for an initial period up to 31 March 2029 with the potential for this to be extended for a further three years.

Successful candidates will receive an annual allowance of £1500 and will be expected to attend three Committee meetings per year. Meetings are usually held in person at MRWA’s office at No 1 Mann Island but may occasionally be held vie Teams.

Candidates will also need to be able to commit sufficient time to read Committee papers in advance of these meetings and to undertake occasional training alongside the other Committee members.

• Are currently a Member, Co-opted Member, or an employee or a consultant to MRWA in any capacity, or have been an employee or Elected Member in the last five years;

As Senior Trust and Foundations Officer you will support the delivery of our vision by growing our portfolio of Trusts and Foundations, crafting exceptionally high quality and persuasive applications for three, four and five figure bids and managing all successful and existing grants.  

We are a small but highly effective team at OCD Action, if you join us you will work closely with our service delivery team and have the opportunity to see the impact of your work. We are looking for someone who is passionate about improving outcomes for people affected by OCD and can channel this into ambitious, creative and persuasive grant applications. This role requires someone who enjoys working with people and is adept at building networks and maintaining effective relationships. This role may be particularly suited to someone who has supported with the development of Trust applications in a larger organisation and is looking to develop their skills or to work with increased flexibility.

To provide direct line management, guidance, and operational support to helpline staff and volunteers, ensuring the service is trauma-informed, safe, and effective..
