Reporting to the COO, the Head of Volunteering will play a pivotal role leading the organisations volunteering work. You will oversee the volunteering function and line manage 2 Volunteering Mangers, as well as supporting and developing the team. The post holder will support a strategic approach to the recruitment of volunteers and will develop, alongside their distribution team, ways of working that promote volunteer retention and satisfaction. The Head of Volunteering will work with the Senior Leadership and Internal Communications resources to ensure effective messaging and communication around volunteering issues and will have multiple crossovers with the Operations team on volunteering matters.

Please note that the role requires travelling to all London sites of The Felix Project and its activity in Deptford, Enfield, Park Royal, Poplar, as well as their offices in Central London.

The successful candidate will be a critical thinker with strong interpersonal skills and extensive experience in volunteering and volunteer management. Candidates will need to have experience leading a team in a fast-paced environment and the ability to influence stakeholders and work closely with them to determine acceptable solutions. The Role

This is a new role which will be focused on a specific project to initially set up and support our member led Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) task group and subgroups. These task groups, with your support, will lead the direction that our EDI membership initiatives take. One of the primary core initiatives will be the delivery of a mentoring scheme for our members with an inclusivity focus.

To be shortlisted for this post, you must have:

As an Ocean Discovery Ranger you will interact with the public and communities both at our hub the National Marine Aquarium and through our many ocean discovery activities and events. Your main aim will be to contribute to our behaviour change programme promoting ocean conservation action though fun and engaging experiences. Some evening shifts will be required to run our public engagement evenings.

You will be required to work 24 hours across seven days, usually rota’d at approx  6 hour shifts. The rate of pay is £11.44 per hour.

LEVEL 2 ROLE  - Ocean Discovery Ranger

As a Level 2 Ranger there will be the extra responsibly of assisting with either:

· Ocean Squad programme of activities, planning and delivering the programme to meet its 5 year goals.

· Snorkelling programme of activities, planning and delivering the programme to meet its 5 year goals

You will be required to work 26 hours across seven days, usually rota’d at approx 6 hour shifts. The rate of pay is £12.00 per hour.

LEVEL 3 ROLE  - Ocean Discovery Ranger - Volunteer Officer

As a Level 3 Ocean Discovery Ranger, you will be lead on the coordination of the Ocean engagement volunteer programme, including recruitment, induction and training of our volunteers. Volunteers within the team support the programme by increasing engagement throughout the building through busking, games, 1:1 conversation, mini talks, greeting people as they start their journey. All these activities contribute to visitor satisfaction, return visits, increased engagement numbers, increase in GLO scores. In addition to this, volunteers boost OCT ambassador numbers and increase engagement with our advocacy programme such as the #thinkOcean Challenge, membership, driving donations and newsletter sign ups.

There is a need to expand the volunteer programme, to continue driving the work of the OCT. To expand successfully, more time needs to be focused on recruitment, training and retaining volunteers. Retention is particularly important as it allows us to maintain a high standard of delivery within the programme. There is also a desire to diversify our volunteer programme which will take considerable time investment to connect with local communities and explore different recruitment avenues.

ESSENTIAL

Established in 1936 and one of Scotland’s leading wildlife bodies, the Scottish Ornithologists’ Club is a registered Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation (SCIO) with some 3500 members.  Its purpose is to advance the study and appreciation of birds in Scotland by promoting their documentation, promoting interest in them, promoting their conservation, providing a focus for information about them and encouraging the appreciation of relevant creative arts.

The Club’s headquarters, which also feature a renowned ornithology library, wildlife art gallery and sales outlet, are in Aberlady, East Lothian.  Fifteen nationwide Branches are led by members who organise events, outings and projects in their areas.  Staff contribute a national series of events, conferences and training activities for members of all ages.  Publications include the highly regarded quarterly journal Scottish Birds, mobile app (Where to Watch Birds in Scotland), regional bird reports, e-newsletters and other online media.

The Club Manager will lead and oversee all aspects of running the Club, including its small team of staff, volunteers, an annual turnover of about £350,000 and assets which include built property (HQ).  They will champion and drive forward the Club’s vision and goals. There will be emphasis on strong leadership to manage and support staff, volunteers and trustees; ensuring the highest standard of services to members; planning and reporting on the annual programme of Club-wide events and developing future priorities.

KEY OBJECTIVES:

• To provide strong leadership and management in relation to staff and the provision of all aspects of the Club's delivery of services and support to its members, in line with its status and responsibilities as a SCIO.
• To liaise and work closely with the SOC’s Council and committees in their work, regularly reporting to and advising Council and Management Committee.
• To support and drive forward the continuous improvement of the Club.
• To oversee the effective running and maintenance of the Club’s headquarters in Aberlady.

MAIN WORK AREAS

• Lead, direct and manage our staff team (nine employees), and provide guidance and direction for volunteers and contract workers as appropriate. Includes staff work plans and annual appraisals, oversight of all HR functions and support of staff in line with good professional practice.
• Ensure the legal requirements of the SCIO are met, including preparation and submission of an Annual Report and Statement of Accounts to the Scottish charity regulator (OSCR)
• Oversee the planning and organisation of the Club’s autumn annual conference and AGM, and the joint SOC/BTO spring conference.
• Work with SOC Secretary to support the Club’s volunteer-led Council and committees, including timely production of papers, reports and minutes, as required.
• Review and update as necessary staff support for Club Branches.
• Together with relevant committees, develop and monitor forward planning for the Club.
• Ensure implementation of all H&S, safeguarding and risk management responsibilities, in line with external and internal policy and Risk Register needs.  Ensure regular review of policies, advising Management Committee and ensuring awareness of them wherever necessary among Council and Committee members, staff, contractors and volunteer leaders.
• Work with the Office Manager to ensure compliance with all necessary measures for the maintenance and management of Waterston House and its users. 
• Ensure appropriate insurance cover for all relevant Club needs, including property, people, events and activities.
• Oversee the staff role in contributing to preparation and monitoring of our annual budget, reporting regularly to relevant committees.
• Oversee and support as appropriate all Club publications and media activities, including its website, Scottish Birds, newsletters and other communications.
• Ensure that statutory Data Protection requirements and obligations are met.
• Ensure that the Club’s IT infrastructure is adequate, robust and up to date. 
• Explore additional avenues for Club funding, make recommendations to the Club office bearers and Council.

 PERSON SPECIFICATION   

The successful candidate may be expected to demonstrate:

• An understanding of the needs and responsibilities of charities and volunteer-led membership bodies.
• Demonstrable team management, leadership and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to both plan and report on organisational work programmes.

Supporting our Newcastle Operations team, this role will help to build FareShare North East’s capacity to redistribute surplus food in the region. Recruiting, training, and leading volunteers, as well as working to support people on employability skills placement, this role would suit someone with a passion for helping people.

Experience working with volunteers would be beneficial, but full training will be provided to help you grow in the role. No two days are the same at FSNE, with the successful candidate being expected to pitch in and help wherever needed. Duties & Responsibilities:

Volunteer Recruitment:

• Develop and implement a regional volunteer recruitment strategy that will deliver an extensive pool of diverse and engaged volunteers to ensure the operational needs of FareShare North East (FSNE) are met in a timely manner.
• Recruit, build and maintain relationships with a wide range of regional volunteer sources, ensuring regular engagement leading to long term partnerships.
• Regular liaison with the FareShare UK Volunteering Team to capitalise on national initiatives.

Volunteer Engagement:

• Develop and deliver a regional engagement programme that ensures all volunteers have a rewarding experience, whilst effectively contributing to FSNE’s overall development
• Promote volunteering, internally and externally in collaboration with the FareShare UK Volunteering Team, to ensure that the impact of volunteers is celebrated.
• Deliver the volunteer induction programme to maximise the engagement and contribution of each volunteer.

Community & Events:

• Work with the wider team to host regular events at our Newcastle warehouse to help attract new volunteers to the charity

General Duties:

• Actively support our food redistribution efforts, jumping on a van, helping out with picking, or pitching in with cleaning alongside our volunteers

We are seeking an experienced community engagement professional with a demonstrable track record of team leadership, inspiring education and engagement outcomes and successful grant fundraising.

The Head of Engagement will provide maternity cover for approximately 13 months and work as part of the Senior Leadership Team at SERT to drive how we influence, engage and empower people and communities to value and protect rivers in the South East.

You will bring passion for our cause and demonstrable experience in delivering inspiring outcomes from education and engagement projects and programmes. You will drive the further development of our Engagement Strategy with innovation and creativity, securing external funding to deliver against the Trust’s strategy and ambition.

Zero Carbon Guildford (ZCG) needs an enthusiastic, organised and capable person to help run our Charity operations and ensure we are performing against our strategic objectives.

We are a Surrey-based charity offering practical solutions which help residents and businesses cut waste and emissions, remove confusion and misinformation on how to make a difference, and provide local solutions to a global crisis.

Overview and Purpose of the role:

The ZCG Operations Coordinator will focus on two main areas:

1. Monitoring ZCG’s performance against strategy and create longevity for the charity

2. Ensuring the smooth and compliant running of our operations 

Your role will involve translating the Charity’s strategy into implementable actions and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) that will help us monitor our performance against our overarching strategy outcomes and benefits. Alongside this role we are advertising for a Project Development Coordinator, and you will work with them to convert the metrics and outcomes from individual projects into a measure of wider Charity impact and success.

A key part of the role will be monitoring the targets outlined in our successful funding bids, and ensuring that all reporting requirements are met. You will be responsible for creating and presenting regular reports on both strategic and funding targets to Operations and Trustee teams.

You will ensure the efficient day to day operation of the charity and our town centre premises, ZERO, ranging from management of stock levels through to implementing and monitoring safe working practices both within the ZERO premises and at external events. You will oversee volunteer supervision within the space; a shared task amongst all ZCG employees.

The role will include oversight of the ZCG events schedule, both via booking and management of events, as well as performance against event targets, whilst implementing the ZCG engagement strategy to ensure that messaging of events is tailored appropriately to the audience. Managing our diverse events schedule requires you to be a spokesperson for the charity, liaising with volunteers, local organisations and the general public so interpersonal skills and a collaborative attitude is a must.

We are advertising this role alongside a Project Development Coordinator role, and envisage each of these being ~4 days a week, which will include some evening and weekend hours. However, we are eager to recruit the best possible combination of people to the team, and will consider different working arrangements (either fewer or more hours), and individuals with experiences across the two roles.

Tasks:

• Monitoring ZCG’s performance against strategy and ensuring charity longevity. This includes: 

  • Creating, measuring and reporting KPIs for charity activity and impact, in reference to charity strategy and the requirements of grant funding we have received. 

  • Regular reporting on progress to Operations and Trustees, including contributions to annual reporting 

  • Ensuring organisational longevity through ongoing efforts to secure both short term premises should the need arise, as well as a more permanent home for our activity.

• Events oversight and management to ensure ZCG delivers successful, impactful events, including:

  • Supporting volunteer event leads to make their events a success. 

  • Supporting planning, promotion, set up (online event set up as well as physical space arrangements), risk assessments, and registration tracking against grant funded event targets. 

  • Working with the Operations Team to facilitate organisation of additional events needed to fill gaps in ZCG offering and meet our KPIs.

• Building management and compliance, including: 

  • Health and safety, risk and compliance

  • Ensuring that staff and volunteers follow safe working procedures

  • Arrange repeats of assessments at relevant frequencies. 

  • Management of building maintenance and refurbishment

  • Managing cafe / shop stock levels, compliance and food hygiene requirements, volunteer training, cash handling and banking 

  • Manage storage, waste collection, and cleaning schedule

• Work with the other employees and volunteers as part of the Operations Team at ZCG to support smooth, and effective operation of the charity, and delivery of our charitable aims - this includes: 

  • Keeping up to date with correspondence on our online workspace, Slack, joining fortnightly Operations meetings (usually on a Tuesday evening) and contributing to Operations activities and decisions.

  • Engaging members of the public who contact the charity online, by phone and through email

  • Actively champion our equality and diversity policy to foster an inclusive environment ensuring that all projects are enjoyable and a welcoming places to volunteer.

Person Specification:

As Operations Coordinator, you will need a wide-ranging skill set and must be extremely well-organised and practical. Effective communication skills are vital as you will be working closely with volunteers and staff members, and will need to positively motivate them whilst ensuring collaboration and compromise keep the charity functioning well.

You will also need to:

• Have a commitment to climate and environmental issues, and understand the importance of communicating in a way that resonates with different audiences. A deep scientific and social knowledge is not a prerequisite for the role, but a willingness and ability to learn more and develop this understanding is vital. 

• Be competent at putting strategy into practice, tracking KPIs and problem solving to find ways to adapt to changing situations 

• Have experience in creating and implementing effective processes and communicating them via written guidance and training. 

• Work well within a team setting and have excellent communication skills. Appreciate diverse views and be able to discuss and agree ways forward, with a strong focus on collaboration and the willingness to compromise. 

• Have basic IT skills, for example including basic office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), and experience with / ability to learn Slack, Google Mail, Google Drive / G-suite and Canva (note that we can help you learn these specific applications as long as you are generally IT-literate). 

Practicalities:

• This role reports to the Operations Lead  of Zero Carbon Guildford

• We envisage this role to be 4 days a week, including 1 evening meeting a fortnight, and may include some weekend working. However, we are keen to see the best candidates available, and so if you have differing requirements of hours, please don't hesitate to get in touch. 

• Based in the ZERO building in the centre of Guildford with some local travel for which expenses can be claimed.

• Annual salary of up to £30,000 full time equivalent depending on experience (at 4 days a week, this would come to £24,000 per annum)

The role of the Project Development Coordinator is to assist existing ZCG projects in achieving maximum impact, and develop new projects where ideas have been put forward or gaps are identified. You will provide project management support, forming teams of self-sufficient volunteers, and provide support in monitoring and evaluation. You will be part of a team comprising paid staff and volunteers. As such, alongside project development your focus will be on supporting and nurturing personal development within the volunteer base whilst driving forward the Charity’s objectives.

An important part of the role is to help effectively communicate these objectives and the associated outcomes of ZCG projects to the public and stakeholders, in line with our engagement strategy. This will include assisting with the coordination of project-focused outreach events, the development of displays, as well as responding to email, social media and telephone enquiries, recognising that every conversation is an opportunity for further collaboration. 

Fundraising is key to the stability of the charity. The Project Development role will help to identify and develop fundraising activities which help projects to be somewhat self-sustaining. This will include identifying available funding pots and understanding project teams’ funding needs, as well as raising funds through events and community fundraising.

Tasks 

• Support the successful operation of ZCG projects. This includes:

  • Liaising with project leads to ensure projects are fully resourced, including volunteer help, marketing and messaging, IT support, funding etc. 

  • Ensuring project leads are aware of and are complying with ZCG safeguarding policies and procedures.

  • Maintaining oversight of project activities and events to avoid duplication of effort, and communicate project activity to Operations and Trustee teams

  • Work with the Volunteer Recruitment Co-ordinator to ensure efficient advertising and fulfillment of volunteer roles, and encourage volunteers to actively participate in the running of projects. 

  • We envisage that this role would act as the Team Leader for the project-specific paid roles which exist for a small subset of our projects (currently three part time paid staff). 

• Support the initiation of new ZCG projects, including:

  • Exploring the feasibility, community need, and impact of new projects and assist with project proposals for Operations & Trustees, and planning and resourcing initial requirements for successful project implementation. .

  • Work with third party organisations to develop joint projects where appropriate

  • Identify and manage fundraising opportunities, such as events, membership structures, donation drives etc. ensuring all activities are within the environmental and social ethos of the charity.

• Ensuring project activity and results are communicated and reported effectively, including: 

  • Developing a key understanding of ZCG Engagement so that volunteers and activities are guided to create impactful messaging 

  • Assist projects with event planning and effective marketing 

  • Work with the Operations Team to help coordinate project information and messaging within ZERO

  • Support with reporting of project activity and results to the Operations teams and the Trustees. 

• Work with the other employees and volunteers as part of the Operations Team at ZCG to support smooth, and effective operation of the charity, and delivery of our charitable aims - this includes: 

  • Keeping up to date with correspondence on our online workspace, Slack, joining fortnightly Operations meetings (usually on a Tuesday evening) and contributing to Operations activities and decisions.

Person Specification:

As  Project Development Coordinator, you will be well-organised, with excellent communication skills and the ability to engage and motivate a wide range of people. You will be passionate about environmental and climate topics, and about making a positive impact on the community. 

As such, you will:

• Have a commitment to climate and environmental issues. A deep scientific and social knowledge is not a prerequisite for the role, but a willingness and ability to learn more and develop this understanding is vital. 

• Work well within a team setting - experience leading people and working with volunteers would be highly relevant and desirable.

• Be well-organised, reliable and able to manage your own time effectively. Project management skills and experience is desirable for this role. 

• Have excellent communication skills, including to groups and individuals with different perspectives and backgrounds. In particular, this includes being able to lead, engage and motivate teams of people, and provide direction and a framework for them to excel. People management / team leadership experience is desirable for this role.

• Be resilient to changing situations and requirements; good at problem solving and thinking on your feet. 

• Have basic IT skills, for example including basic office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), and experience with / ability to learn Slack, Google Mail, Google Drive / G-suite and Canva (note that we can help you learn these specific applications as long as you are generally IT-literate). Familiarity with digital design tools, such as Canva, will be desirable for this role. 

Practicalities:

• This role reports to the Operations Lead of Zero Carbon Guildford

• We envisage this role to be 4 days a week, including 1 evening meeting a fortnight, and may include some weekend working. However, we are keen to see the best candidates available, and so if you have differing requirements of hours, please don't hesitate to get in touch. 

• Based in the ZERO building in the centre of Guildford with some local travel for which expenses can be claimed.

• Annual salary of up to £30,000 full time equivalent depending on experience (at 4 days a week, this would come to £24,000 per annum)

What's the role about?

• Ensure data and metrics from Assemble are available to meet business need, funding bid requirements and our annual reporting requirements internally and externally Identify and champion opportunities to get even more from Assemble to meet our volunteering strategy and improve and enhance our support for volunteers and the user experience on Assemble.
• This role would have an individual specialism but with the ability to be flexible to cover the priorities required across the department and the UK wide needs.

About CleanupUK  

We’re a small charity that brings communities together to create cleaner, connected and safer urban and rural neighbourhoods by tackling the litter problems where they live. Litter-picking brings people closer together, enables neighbours to meet one another other and helps create a greater sense of pride and community in local areas.

Historically, we have delivered litter-picking focussed community engagement projects in London and Birmingham. Our current focus is developing partnerships with community organisations across England to expand our reach and increase impact.

Main duties of the role 

• To provide a pro-active, high-quality administration and support service to the Operational Team, Chief Executive and the Corporate Partnerships team. 

Operational Team: Deals with logistics, processes and day to day functions of our work on the ground with community partners and volunteers. 

• To attend weekly team meetings 

• To assist in research into new areas of operation for the charity.
