We are flexible on hours of work and where this work is done. This role can be based in our London office (N1) with hybrid working but can also be done part-time and/or from home. If home-working is agreed, the ability to travel semi-regularly to London (i.e. around once per month) is desirable but not essential.

In this newly created Deputy Head of HR role, you will lead our Business Partnering & Advisory function by developing the HR Business Partnering model, managing a team of HR professionals, and ultimately embedding excellent people management practice across the organisation. You will also have a direct business partnering relationship with Relate at Family Action; providing strategic advice, coaching and operational HR support to senior managers, to support culture change post-merger (in January 2025).

If you have significant experience managing complex employee relations and organisational change processes (including TUPE and large-scale restructures) and leading a team of HR professionals, we would like to hear from you. Sense has a fantastic opportunity for someone to join our Fundraising team as our Statutory Fundraising Manager. This is a 6 month fixed term, full-time position working 37.5 hours per week, based between home and our offices in Kings Cross, London.

The successful candidate will be responsible for leading statutory fundraising at Sense. This includes both new business work and managing relationships with existing supporters. You will be working closely with the Head of High Value Partnerships, the CEO, and senior operational colleagues, the post holder will create a strategy in this area and collaborate with operational teams to develop new programme models and processes to drive growth.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and implement a fundraising strategy to maximise income from statutory and lottery bodies such as NHS England, the Arts Council and National Lottery Community Fund. Statutory funding has been identified as a growth area at Sense Work with senior stakeholders, including the CEO, Directors of Operations and Finance teams, to develop and deliver compelling funding bids for statutory and public sector funders
• Manage relationships with statutory and public sector funders, including taking responsibility for narrative and financial reporting, and coordinating all stakeholder contact
• Specific responsibility for managing and reporting against statutory income and expenditure budgets
• Financial and programme reporting and database management
• Ensure compliance with the Data Protection Act, the Chartered Institute of Fundraising’s Code of Practice, and any other regulatory frameworks that may be introduced

Key skills and experience

• A track record of securing income from a range of statutory sources, including six figure grants (essential) - success at the seven figure+ grant level (desirable)
• Experience of working with teams to develop proposals in line with organizational priorities, including developing robust project monitoring and evaluation plans.
• Experience of leading relationships with external funders, in particular government departments and lottery bodies
• Experience of compiling narrative and financial reports for statutory funders
• Experience of setting and managing budgets in line with organizational priorities.
• Understanding of tendering and contracting processes
• Excellent standard of literacy and numeracy and IT fluency
• Evidence of own continuing professional development
• Commitment to comply with the principles of GDPR and maintain confidentiality at all times

The Role

As the Corporate & Events Fundraising Manager, you will maximise income generation from events, businesses, corporate supporters, and major donors, in alignment with the Fundraising Strategy and annual income targets. This role will lead the Corporate and Events team, overseeing major gifts, stewardship, and donor development while maintaining the highest professional standards and regulatory compliance.

You will:

· Be the face of St Andrew’s Hospice within the corporate community and be responsible for establishing, growing and managing fundraising partnerships with new and existing corporate supporters.

· Be responsible for working as part of the Senior Fundraising Leadership team to meet the organisation’s income targets.

· Work with the Corporate and Events Team to organise and develop all allocated fundraising events and third party business fundraising activity, and manage these within agreed levels of expenditure.

· Have line management responsibility for the Corporate and Events Team and volunteers.

· Develop and nurture relationships with event sponsors, participants, businesses and corporate partners, to encourage support for St Andrew’s Hospice.

· Represent the Hospice at fundraising events, deliver impactful presentations, and ensure donor stewardship is handled with care, adhering to best practices and Fundraising Regulation guidelines.

· Support the work of the wider Fundraising department with other fundraising duties or initiatives as required.

What We’re Looking For:

· Proven experience of delivering 6 figures or more of income related targets.

· Experience of delivering financially successful and well-planned events to maximise income for St Andrew’s Hospice.

· Experience and knowledge of working with the business community to secure support and develop their supporter journey.

· Proven experience of working within local communities to generate income and support. Experience of working with corporate partners & organisations to deliver pitches and secure Fundraising support.

· Experience of managing a team and ensuring the highest level of performance is achieved.

· Experience of Health and Safety in relation to full event planning and supervising team liaison with external license providers and related providers.

We are looking for a Team Leader to join us in our Cats and Small Pets team, the team who are responsible for providing support to six different species and working with around 100 cats and small pets at our site, as well as supporting a similar number within our foster provision.

As Team Leader Cats and Small Pets you will oversee the entire pet journey from admission to rehoming. You will supervise day-to-day operations as point of contact whilst ensuring adherence to relevant policies, procedures, risk and safety assessments. Through a clear understanding of the pet's journey, you will focus on maximising throughput, resolving issues, and collaborating across departments.

As someone with strong problem-solving and coaching skills you will inspire and develop the team, managing and motivating your direct reports and the wider team to deliver on departmental goals. This will include working alongside other Team Leaders with recruitment, development and performance management to build a positive team culture.

• Collaborate with colleagues across the Trust to develop and implement a Supporter Experience Strategy that results in our supporters feeling valued, respected and with us for the long-term

 
We’re looking for someone who has strategic experience of developing and delivering successful individual giving and ideally legacy programmes, is results-focused, with great leadership and relationship building skills. You will have a love for both data and words, and an enthusiasm for using ideas and data to help raise more money in effective ways.

The Charity:

 Aphasia Support is a passionate, community-centred charity. Our mission is to improve the wellbeing of people with Aphasia and their carers by providing tailored speech and language therapy and long-term support. We want to create a world where every person with Aphasia has access to support and can communicate with confidence. 

The charity currently has 4 staff members (Chief Executive, Fundraising & Communications Manager, Speech and Language Therapy Assistant, Administrator) and 8 Speech and Language Therapists working for the charity on a sessional basis. The sessional workers oversee our 1to1 support and aphasia cafes. The charity has over 60 volunteers who provide the 1to1 support and help run our aphasia cafes.

The Role:

Aphasia Support is looking to recruit a Community Engagement & Volunteer Officer who will work with the charity’s speech and language therapy team and volunteers in West Yorkshire, Harrogate and Barnsley to ensure our support reaches the people who need it most. 

We envisage this to be a split role: 

• 3 days focused on ensuring people in West Yorkshire, Harrogate and Barnsley receive timely support through the charity's community-based Aphasia Cafe's and at-home 1:1 speech and language therapy service.

• 2 days focused on overseeing the charity's volunteer recruitment and retention programme, ensuring Aphasia Support's valued volunteers receive the best possible experience, utilising their time and resource to create the biggest impact.

Main duties will include: 

·Processing of new referrals into the charity alongside the current SLT Assistant. Contacting new referrals and outlining the charity’s 1to1 support and aphasia café support offer and completing initial referral paperwork via phone and email.

· Gaining a thorough understanding of the speech and language therapy apps used by the charity and supported conversation techniques. You will work towards being the resident expert on the speech and language therapy apps used by the charity.

· Matching people with aphasia with volunteers for our 1to1 support service within West Yorkshire, Harrogate and Barnsley.

· Completing initial appointments in the client’s home alongside volunteers. Taking speech and language therapy assessments and turning them into clear therapy plans that can be delivered confidently by the volunteers.

· Provide ongoing advice and support to volunteers and clients.

· Provide home based 1to1 support for clients, if required.

• Leading on volunteer recruitment for all areas of the charity by liaising with the charity’s Fundraising & Communications Manager alongside branch committees, volunteer centres, universities, colleges and NHS volunteering teams.

· Screening of new volunteers and administering of reference and DBS checks.

· Leading on the charity’s quarterly volunteer inductions.

· On occasion supporting the charity’s event fundraising calendar which will require some evening work.

· If required, supporting the running of the charity’s aphasia cafes.

· Completing other tasks which are commensurate with the role

Person Specification

Essential

· Good general level of education or equivalent work-based experience

· Excellent organisational skills and time management skills.

· Good administrative and record keeping skills including strong attention to detail.

· Ability to communicate effectively and tactfully both verbally and in writing

· Good technical literacy of Microsoft Applications e.g. Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint.

· Experience working with CRM databases, and maintaining accurate records

· Highly confident user of technology, specifically iPads, with a willingness to learn about speech and language therapy apps.

· Good interpersonal skills including listening and display empathy

· Proven ability to build and maintain effective relationships

· Demonstrates understanding and ability to manage self, and work with others at all levels

· Demonstrate a commitment and enthusiasm for supporting people with aphasia and their carers.

· Have access to a car for work purposes and hold a full current UK driving licence
