Project Background

Come and join our award-winning place-based volunteering programme that works with residents living across Hackney and the City of London.

You will be based out in the community - the programme is based at GP practices - to engage, support and enable local residents and patients to deliver local services for themselves, to meet local needs. We support residents to come together, to share their skills and experience for the benefit of each other, to deliver local groups and activities such as a book group, film club, exercise classes or cooking group. Residents from diverse backgrounds and demographics attend these activities together and make new connections, building strong local communities, all working together to make their area a better place to live. People, many of whom are isolated across all ages, and who have difficult life circumstances, are brought together, providing each other with mutual support and encouragement to develop new skills and pursue life goals, and to feel better able to voice their concerns to services.

You will be joining a nationally recognised project - having won an award from the Royal Society of Public Health in November 2024 - to support residents to fulfil their personal goals, make connections with others, and design activities and services that meet local needs. You will also be supporting people to improve their mental and physical health through signposting them to appropriate services and encouraging them to talk to their GP if they have concerns; and will be working in partnership with GP practice staff to co-create volunteer roles to make the practice more efficient and a better place to visit.

Who are we?

Volunteer Centre Hackney is a medium sized charity (currently 30 staff) based in the London borough of Hackney, working to support local residents to realise their skills and passions through volunteering and social action, and to share these for the benefit of others.

Our mission is to build and strengthen communities across Hackney through supporting residents of all ages and backgrounds to volunteer and build projects together.

In 2021, we were awarded the Freedom of the Borough Award by Hackney Council for our efforts to support residents during COVID, which included mobilising over 2000 volunteers to deliver food, prescriptions and essential items, provide emotional support to isolated residents and support the vaccine rollout. 

We work with hundreds of diverse community organisations and deliver various programmes to help residents share their skills and deliver their own social action projects to improve people’s lives. These include a befriending programme, volunteering brokerage matching local people to volunteer roles based on their skills, interests and goals, a specialist mental health programme, peer research and multiple resident engagement programmes at GP surgeries and estates across Hackney.

Post holders need to be enthusiastic and engaging, bringing energy to the role, be self-motivating and confident to work primarily alone, albeit with some support from the team members based at other sites.

Key duties and reponsibilities:

Management Role

· Based on the policies of the charity as defined by the Trustees Board (created Oct 2022 AGM), manage the affairs of the charity with due respect for its heritage, status and independence.

· Within those defined policies, take decisions that allow the development of its business activities, liaising with other Trustees as necessary, and report to the Trustees on a regular basis.

· When necessary, liaise on allocation of duties to other Trustees on a cooperative basis.

· Represent the charity at occasional public events and meetings with collaborative partners and in negotiations, e.g. NICE, ARTP, Sleep Clinics.

· Act as main point of external contact and manage that contact as appropriate.

· Take purchasing decisions within the defined responsibility of the position.

· Modernise and develop the SATA business on as cost efficient basis as possible — goal is generally self-financing.

· Explore business opportunities as appropriate. 

· Identify risk, consult with other officers and recommend action for Board decision.

· Finalise move to paperless operation.

Administrative Duties

· Arrange Trustee Board Meetings.

· Manage Membership Database.

· Administer Membership Renewals.

· Register & acknowledge new memberships.

· Handle resignations, deaths and other membership issues with appropriate respect.

· Acknowledge Donations.

· Administer Gift Aid claim with Treasurer.

Link Age Southwark is a local charity whose vision is for friendly local communities where people over the age of 60 and those living with a diagnosis of dementia can thrive.

We are seeking an organised and dynamic storyteller to draw in an audience of potential funders, local partners and community volunteers in support of our vital work with older people experiencing loneliness.

As well as helping to maintain an engaging website and social media presence, this role will also support the delivery of fundraising events and campaigns, and the development of local community and corporate partnerships. You will also be creating physical and digital marketing resources and helping to manage a database of donors and other supporters.

This is a busy and rewarding role giving you the opportunity to make a real difference to the lives of older people.  We believe it is a great opportunity for someone to further develop their repertoire of skills, while gaining insight and experience within the charitable sector.

It involves –

Monitoring and recording all income for the charity

Support the delivery of digital fundraising activities

Being a small team, other tasks may come up from time to time

Exploring and obtaining fundraising from Corporate entities.

Duties

Experience

• Essential: Experienced in advising and performing casework on housing/homelessness and benefits and other related issues for people newly granted refugee status and others with the right to remain in the UK.

• Desirable: Immigration Advice Authority (IAA) Level 1 or Level 2 qualified in Asylum and Protection or Immigration.

You will provide professional psychological support to adults through a series of regular counselling sessions to help bring about effective change and improve client wellbeing.

How are staff supported to work remotely?

This role is essential in ensuring that our logistics, partnerships, and communications run efficiently, allowing us to reach and support more young people. RESPONSIBILITIES

Programme & Operations Support

• Support the coordination of OSH’s residentials, events, and programmes, ensuring logistics run smoothly.

• Arrange bookings (e.g. facilitators, venues, catering, transport) to ensure contracts and payments are managed efficiently.

• Assist in staff recruitment and volunteer management with recruitment, interview scheduling, onboarding, inductions, organising meetings and receiving feedback.

• Getting involved in OSH events in the evenings and at weekends, including residentials. These are overnight trips from 2 to 5 nights

Our Youth and Play Workers will play a pivotal role in the Children, Young People and Families team, working as a core team of practitioners to ensure the smooth running of our programmes and services. In this role you will be part of a small and dynamic team which delivers a wide range of programmes and activities, both from Tulse Hill Adventure Playground and within local schools. The work of the Children, Young People and Families team is diverse and varied. We are seeking a confident communicator with a heart for mission and a head for strategy to become their new North West Area Manager. In this important role you’ll lead their work with churches, leaders, and Christian networks across the UK. You'll inspire action through giving, prayer, and advocacy, sharing the life-changing impact of World Vision’s work with the world’s most vulnerable children. From church visits to major festivals and online events, you’ll bring energy and purpose to every interaction. With team leadership responsibilities and room to grow, this is a bold, faith-filled role where your ideas and passion can truly thrive. You’ll represent World Vision by speaking in churches for approximately 18 Sundays per calendar year, a wonderful opportunity to inspire, connect, and share the heart of our mission with church communities.

The successful candidate must be able to demonstrate:

• Experience in leading/supporting a team working to targets, perhaps in a fundraising, sales or similar environment.
• Knowledge of the Christian landscape in the UK, and key relationship management principles.
• Ability to represent World Vision at a range of events, speaking to leaders, churches and individuals about our work.
