Job description

About Us

We Are Survivors is a survivor-focused voluntary sector organisation that aims to create and facilitate safe spaces for male (including trans and non-binary individuals) survivors of sexual harms across Greater Manchester, providing access to quality-assured support.

Our work is focused on developing ways for individuals to empower themselves to work through personal and sometimes painful issues, guided and supported by our trauma-informed team, following the trauma and recovery model.

Our vision is to have “A society where NO male survivor is left behind”

About the Role

The OUT Spoken Navigator supports men who have experienced trauma, including sexual harm, within prisons across the North West, helping them access the support they need to improve their wellbeing and move forward in their recovery. The role involves conducting assessments, providing trauma-informed brief interventions and advocacy, and helping men navigate available support. Working closely with prison staff, healthcare professionals and other services, the Navigator helps ensure men receive joined-up support, particularly those who may have experienced complex trauma or struggled to engage with services in the past. It's a rewarding opportunity to build trusting relationships, give men a voice within the criminal justice system and make a meaningful difference to their lives, ensuring no male survivor is left behind.

About You

Everyone deserves to be heard. But for many men in prison, talking about trauma can feel almost impossible. Could you be the person who helps change that?

We're looking for someone to join our OUT Spoken team, working directly with men across the North West prison estate who have experienced trauma, including sexual harm.

Many men have spent years keeping their experiences to themselves. Some have never spoken about what happened to them, while others have struggled to find services that understand their needs. We want to change that, and this role is a chance to help make it happen.

As our OUT Spoken Navigator, you'll work directly with men in prison, providing assessments, trauma-informed brief interventions and advocacy. You'll help individuals better understand their experiences, explore what support might help, and take those first steps toward improving their wellbeing.

No two days will be quite the same. You might support someone talking about their experiences for the first time, help another person manage the impact of trauma, or work with prison and healthcare teams to ensure someone gets the right support.

A big part of the role is building trust with men who may have complex needs or haven't always had positive experiences of services. You'll need to be comfortable having difficult conversations, managing risk, and working within the challenges of a prison environment.

We're looking for someone with experience providing one-to-one support or advocacy, who understands the importance of trauma-informed practice and genuinely enjoys working with people. Experience in criminal justice would be great, but we're also interested in people who have worked in mental health, social care or other services supporting people with complex needs.

You'll be joining a supportive team that believes every man deserves to be heard, regardless of his circumstances. You'll have opportunities to develop your practice, work alongside professionals from different services, and help us continue improving support for men in prison.

If you enjoy building relationships, aren't afraid of a challenge and want to do work that genuinely makes a difference, we'd love to hear from you.

At We Are Survivors, we're working towards a future where no male survivor is left behind. This is your chance to help make that happen.
