Family Connections Worker – Crewe Location: Crewe Salary: £24,000 per annum Vacancy Type: Permanent Closing Date: 17 Dec 2025 About The Role We are currently recruiting for a Family Connections Worker to join our team in Crewe. We are Forward, the social enterprise that empowers people to break the cycle of crime and addiction to move forward and live fulfilling lives. We deliver a range of MOJ Commissioned Rehabilitative services (CRS) directly for Probation in three key areas: Accommodation, Personal Wellbeing and Dependency & Recovery. Accommodation is delivered in Wales, Dependency and Recovery in London and Humberside, Personal Wellbeing in East of England, Sussex, Surrey and as a subcontractor in Kent and Cheshire. These services work with Men 18+ who are under probation supervision, supporting them to navigate through their desired outcomes in order to achieve transformational change, break the cycle of offending and achieve long-term integration into society. Our services have supported thousands of people to make positive changes and build productive lives with a job, family, friends, and a sense of community. No matter what your past, we believe anyone is capable of lasting change Role Responsibilities You will be working remotely as part of a flexible team of Family Connections practitioners, specifically delivering as part of the wider personal well-being service, Family and Significant others interventions to support adult men and young men in the Criminal Justice system. The support is tailored to individual needs, delivering a range of programmes within the categories of Family and Significant others. The Family Connections practitioner will deliver client centred support depending on the requirements of the individual client. You will be required to manage a caseload, provide appropriate advice and guidance, assess, care plan; deliver structured 1:1 and group-work sessions. You will be responsible for contributing to the targets set by Forward, Interventions Alliance, whom sub-contract Forward Trust to deliver Family and Significant Others service and local commissioners. One of the key targets will be measuring outcomes, so co-operative working relationships with other partner agencies is vital to this role. Flexibility will be required in this role, this may include some evening/weekend shift and with reasonable notice to travel to other projects in your cluster to deliver Health and wellbeing services, enabling continuity of care for the client group. Job Outline:
CFAB supports children on the move between the UK and other countries and children who are separated from their family in another country. The complexities of migration and international separation can make many of these children particularly hard to support and particularly vulnerable to abuse and exploitation. You will lead CFAB’s programme of campaigns, research and advocacy. You will raise awareness of our work to protect children who are separated from their families across international borders by developing key relationships with Government departments, drafting policy briefings, developing campaigns and leading on our public affairs work. You also will produce newsletters, create compelling content for our social media channels, maintain our website and promote our campaigns to key stakeholders.
We are looking for a highly motivated, creative individual who has excellent written skills and is positive, proactive and eager to learn. You will be working in a small team so a hand-on, solution focused approach is a must.
Key responsibilities:
Policy
- Draft policy positions, briefings and internal and external reports as appropriate.
- Identify and cultivate parliamentary and ministerial contacts sympathetic to our cause.
- Monitor Parliamentary inquiries, Bills, debates, parliamentary questions, and government consultations and draft submissions in a timely manner.
- Monitor and analyse government statistics.
- Work with Experts by Experience to shape advocacy and amplify the voices of those with lived experience of our work.
Campaigns & Communication
- Lead on developing our public-facing campaigns, tailoring our key messages for different audiences and identifying ways to push forward our issues through presentations, meetings, social media and other channels.
- Lead on our Public Relations work, maintaining our database and relations with relevant media, trade press and sector leads to raise awareness of our work and our policy campaigns.
- Write and produce CFAB's digital newsletters.
- Produce and track the efficacy of email marketing campaigns.
- Responsibly use digital and AI tools to enhance communication strategies, ensuring alignment with organisational values and safeguarding data privacy and integrity.
Marketing
- Contribute to the updating and maintenance of CFAB’s website as required.
- Design and produce other marketing materials as needed.
Social media
- Manage all activity on our social media channels including the creation of posts, videos and images and ad hoc engagement.
- Track online engagement with CFAB and regularly monitor performance to enable an effective assessment of our communication tools and outputs.

Person specification: (Skills, Abilities, Knowledge and Experience)
Essential:
- Excellent written English, with proven ability to research and write accessible, clear policy documents and reports for a range of audiences.
- Passionate about CFAB’s mission.
- A ‘self-starter’ with a willingness to learn about CFAB’s complex cause. • Sound knowledge of the political system and policy making in the UK.
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to juggle multiple priorities. • The ability to engage and build relationships internally and externally to CFAB

Desirable:
- Educated to degree level.
- Experience of providing strategic and tactical political and/or policy advice, including to senior management.

- Sound working knowledge of window-based software packages, including word processing, spreadsheets, databases, electronic mail, and the internet.

What’s the role about?
Located 6 miles away from Ballycastle, Rathlin Island is the only inhabited offshore island in Northern Ireland. Comprised of rugged cliffs, unimproved grassland and several lakes, Rathlin island is an idyllic workplace.
The team at the Rathlin Seabird Centre have been delivering exemplary visitor experience for over 16 years, making the reserve a serious opportunity for fundraising and membership recruitment.
As a core part of both the Rathlin team and the Face to Face membership teams, you be working alongside staff and volunteers to welcome visitors to the reserve and enthuse them about the conservation importance of the site. You will be expected to role model best practices for reserve fundraising to inspire new memberships for the RSPB.
Given that this position is based on Rathlin island, the ideal candidate will live within 20 miles of Ballycastle harbour. You don’t have to have fundraising experience - full training will be provided.
Expert knowledge of Northern Irish wildlife is not a pre-requisite, but a passion for conservation, an ability to employ effective communication skills and an eagerness to learn are essential.
