Starting Point, a project of the Mustard Tree Foundation, has a great new opportunity for someone who is keen to work with young people and see lives changed. The success of the relational, tailored, and holistic approach of Starting Point’s one to one mentoring, has now provided an exciting opportunity to meet with young people who have been referred through A&E at The Royal Berkshire Hospital. The community support focuses on both practical and wellbeing support, as well as supporting young people to access positive opportunities.
The focus of the A&E & Community Mentor role is to support young people both in A&E and then connect them to a positive role model, along with other opportunities in their community. The role also includes building positive relationships with the A&E staff and other stakeholders including the Thames Valley Police and local authorities.
This role is part of Starting Point’s A&E Navigators programme which creates a relational journey from a young person’s moment of crisis to thriving within the local community.
The key tasks of the role are:
- Meet with a caseload of young people in the community - helping them access wider support or matching them to a Volunteer Mentor for long term mentoring.
- Support with training and coordinating volunteer Navigators, leading up to 4 A&E shifts a month.
- Oversight of a team of volunteer mentors
- Provide 1-2-1 mentoring for up to 5 young people.
- Develop relationships with referrers and local community groups
- Complete monitoring, recording, and reporting of young people.
- Establish and maintain good relationships with staff at A&E and other partners.
- Represent the Charity and its ethos.
We are looking for someone who has experience of working with young people aged 11-25 (in either a professional or voluntary capacity) and understands the causes and effects of why young people might end up in A&E or not be engaging positively with school. We would welcome applications from people with lived experience of the challenges that the young people are facing.
Please note: Applicants who don't submit a covering letter will not be considered in the shortlisting process.
