We are seeking a proactive and experienced Fundraising Manager to join us on a part-time or full-time basis (minimum 3 days per week). This role will lead and manage our small fundraising team and drive income generation across a range of activities. This is a key role responsible for the planning, implementation, and monitoring of our fundraising strategy, ensuring we achieve our financial targets and can continue to provide essential support to survivors.

The Fundraising Manager will work closely with the CEO, Business Development Officer, Trusts and Foundations Fundraiser, and the wider team, to implement both strategic and operational elements of our fundraising efforts. This includes leading on the coordination and delivery of our multi-strand fundraising strategy, specifically including corporate fundraising, sponsorship opportunities, and the development of income-generating training and development programmes. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing distinct strategies for longer-term contract funding, while ensuring alignment with the overarching fundraising strategy.

This role reports directly to the CEO and is a permanent contract, with a competitive salary range of £38,850 - £43,050 (pro rata if part time). It includes a generous 30-day annual leave allowance, plus bank holidays, with 5 days to be taken over Christmas (as the office is closed for two weeks).

This role offers flexibility and can be undertaken remotely for the right candidate, with travel required to our Carlisle headquarters on an ad hoc basis as required.

About Us

Safer Waves was set up in 2019 to provide support to merchant seafarers who have experienced sexual assault, sexual harassment or gender discrimination on board.

Safer Waves provides an anonymous email support service, run by volunteers who are trained in responding to disclosures of sexual violence, and who understand the specific challenges experienced when these events happen onboard a vessel.

We work with shipping companies, industry leaders, law enforcement and maritime training providers to raise awareness of sexual violence within the maritime industry, and to improve the support that is available to seafarers who experience it.

Job Purpose

For the first 5 years, Safer Waves has been a volunteer-led organisation. We are now in the exciting position of being able to recruit a CEO, and we are looking for an individual who has the passion to see this new organisation thrive in the maritime welfare sector.

As the head of a small and rapidly developing organisation, the CEO role will be extremely varied, with the opportunity to shape the organisational structure as needed. The CEO will work closely with the trustee board and Operations Manager to deliver the strategy, improve sustainability and financial resilience, manage risk and deliver high-quality services to our beneficiaries.

We are a growing organisation, and this is a unique opportunity to grow and innovate with the organisation and to contribute to our future success. Applicants will need to be prepared to take on a wide range of tasks at the outset including compliance, accounting, training, public speaking, banking, leading volunteers, engaging with external partners and funders, overseeing the website and email service and many other tasks.
 

Responsibilities & Accountabilities 

The CEO reports directly to the Trustee Board and is responsible for the following:

• Strategy: Shape and deliver the charity's strategy over the next five years, whilst also ensuring the day-to-day running of the charity remains effective.

• Finance: Maintain and develop relationships with funders, and find new funding streams for the charity. Prepare budgets and control spending accordingly.

• Risk management and compliance: Work with the trustees to ensure strong governance, including effective management of risks and compliance with current legislation.

• Relationships: Build and maintain relationships with international organisations including charities, shipping companies, law enforcement and government agencies among others.

• Line management: Manage staff and volunteers

• Communications and Outreach: Work with the Operations Manager, Trustees and volunteers to raise the profile of the charity and increase the number of seafarers reached

Person Specification

Essential 

• Experience in being self-sufficient and driving progress, ideally in a business or charity setting.

• Senior Management Experience

• Able to demonstrate alignment with the core values of Safer Waves.

• Knowledge and understanding of supporting survivors of sexual violence

Desirable

• Experience working in the charity sector. 

• An understanding of the maritime sector

We are looking for a part-time administrator to join our team. This is an ideal opportunity for a first job or for someone looking to return to work. You would be working within our membership services team and need to be computer literate using Microsoft Office (Word & Excel on a Windows PC). Experience in using an online database, such as Civi-CRM, is also advantageous but not essential. We will provide full support and training as needed. 

We need good verbal and written communication skills as you will be public facing handling a range of telephone and email enquires. You'd be undertaking a range of administration roles and this would include dispatching goods from our online shop as well as dealing with new membership applications and services relevent to our members. We'd also love you to join our team at our annual conference assisting with administration, this is 3-4 nights away (all expenses paid) and so you need to be confident in presenting yourself and us on the registration desk and in other duties as necessary. 

We would require you, as a minimum, to work for some of your hours in our Ipswich based office but there is opportunity to work from home for some of your hours if that suits you. Alternatively, if you'd rather work at all times from our office thats fine as well.

Your starting salary is £25,526 pro rata and we provide a pension scheme. We provide an annual incremental rise (for 5-years recognising service and increasing knowledge) as well as any pay award as determined by our trustees. We have a AL allowance of 20-days (pro-rata) plus bank holidays as well as the 3-days off between Christmas and New Year when our office is closed.

About the role:

As a Christian Union Staff Worker, you will play a vital role in supporting, encouraging, and equipping students in Christian Unions (CUs) to share the gospel in their universities.

In this role, you will:

• Train and support CU leaders in evangelism, helping them to share the gospel effectively
• Work alongside CU members to reach their friends and peers with the good news of Jesus
• Support students in understanding the Bible and applying it to their lives
• Organise and facilitate training events in evangelism, leadership, and discipleship
• Build relationships with local churches, student workers, and other organisations
• Recruit and supervise Relay Workers and Associate Staff Workers
• Promote UCCF’s ministry among students and churches, developing prayer and financial support networks
• Take part in UCCF training and national conferences for personal and professional development

To equip Christian Union Staff Worker's for this strategic ministry, staff follow a training curriculum covering theology, biblical studies, mission, apologetics, church history, and ministry skills. They receive ongoing support from a Team Leader and regional team, meeting regularly for study, prayer, and fellowship.
