Job description

The Role
Are you a strategic HR professional ready to make a real impact?
This is an excellent opportunity to join a forward-thinking HR team and play a key role in shaping the Law Society's people strategy. As an HR Business Partner, you will work closely with senior leaders to deliver strategic and operational HR support across a range of areas. You will provide expert advice on complex employee relations matters and manage risk through sound judgement and consultation with legal and occupational health specialists.
You will lead HR support for organisational change, such as restructures and redeployment, ensuring processes are effective and aligned with best practice. Working strategically, you will contribute to workforce planning and business discussions, developing HR solutions that drive engagement, performance and organisational success.
Building strong, trusted relationships will be key, as you coach and support managers to develop their leadership capability and promote a positive, inclusive culture. You will also review and develop HR policies, ensuring compliance with legislation and alignment with the organisation's goals.
Acting as the HR lead with the recognised trade union, and collaborating with colleagues across HR, you will help embed equality, diversity and inclusion, champion best practice, and ensure the Law Society remains a great place to work.

What we're looking for
You will be a Chartered Member of the CIPD (or hold an equivalent professional qualification) with a strong track record of delivering complex employment-related change and wellbeing programmes in fast-paced environments. You will demonstrate a clear understanding of how HR can best contribute to organisational success and have evidence of achieving business-focused results.
You will be able to build credibility and trust quickly, using your diplomacy and political sensitivity to influence and negotiate effectively at all levels. Your coaching skills and collaborative working style will help you develop others and foster strong, productive relationships. You will bring a strategic consultancy mindset, excellent communication and presentation skills, and the confidence to contribute proactively to organisational success.
This is a rewarding role for a skilled and strategic HR professional who is motivated by delivering impact and shaping a positive, high-performing culture.

What's in it for you

This is an excellent opportunity to work with contemporary thinkers in a progressive membership organisation. The successful candidate will join a strong brand with a reputation for excellence and legal expertise, committed to promoting equality, diversity and inclusion, and a culture of trust, clarity, excellence and respect.

Interviews are expected to take place on the 9 and 10 December 2025.

We offer hybrid working (minimum of 2 days a week working on site), a generous flexible benefits package, a friendly working environment and the opportunity to develop your career within a professional organisation.

Please note: if you are an internal applicant, Pay Policy will apply.

The Law Society represents solicitors in England and Wales. From negotiating with and lobbying the profession's regulators, government and other decision makers, to offering training and advice, we're here to help, protect and promote solicitors.
