Role Purpose

As the Director of Safeguarding, you will be the cornerstone of our commitment to the safety and well- being of children, young people, and adults across our organisation. Your role is to lead with authority and vision, developing and implementing a robust, UK-wide safeguarding strategy that not only meets but exceeds legislative frameworks and best practices. You will be the driving force behind a culture of transparency, vigilance, and continuous improvement, ensuring that safeguarding is embedded in every aspect of our work.

Key Responsibilities

· Strategic Leadership: Direct and oversee all safeguarding activities, ensuring compliance with internal and external standards. Lead strategic planning and operational delivery within safeguarding domains.

· Service Delivery & Quality Assurance: Develop, review, and implement safeguarding policies and procedures to ensure they are current and compliant with legal requirements.

· Compliance and Risk Management: Ensure adherence to safeguarding legislation and manage risks effectively.

· Training and Development: Identify training needs, develop, and quality assure appropriate safeguarding programmes for all staff and volunteers.

· Incident Management: Handle complex safeguarding issues, ensuring swift and decisive action, including referrals to external agencies.

· Stakeholder Engagement: Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including safeguarding agencies and partners.

· Reporting and Documentation: Maintain accurate records and report safeguarding activities to the leadership team, Safeguarding Governance Committee, Board, and relevant entities.

· Commercial Awareness & Innovation: Identify opportunities for commercial growth and innovation in safeguarding commissioning and processes.

· External Influencing: Use external expert stakeholders to better inform practice delivery and proactively horizon scan multi-sectors for future safeguarding opportunities to develop new ways of working and influence wider policy and societal change.

Person Specification

Qualifications:

· Degree in any related field or equivalent work experience.

· Relevant safeguarding certifications covering both children and young people (CYP) and adult safeguarding and protection.

· In depth evidence of comprehensive CPD and how you would deploy this knowledge in post

Experience:

· Extensive experience in a senior leadership role focused on safeguarding across large and complex organisations delivering services, in equal measure, for CYP and adults.

· Evidence of significant experience in delivering on each of the key responsibilities in depth.

· Proven track record in developing, implementing, and evaluating safeguarding policies, procedures, and training programmes.

· Experience managing and influencing teams and individuals on complex safeguarding cases, including conducting risk assessments and coordinating with external agencies.

Skills:

· Exceptional leadership and strategic planning abilities.

· Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, capable of making critical decisions under pressure.

· Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, adept at building relationships and influencing at all levels.

· Ability to train, mentor, and inspire a team, fostering an organisational environment of continuous improvement.

· A serious current working knowledge of the wider social, psychological, and environmental factors impacting safeguarding, with the capability to apply this

· Full awareness of national safeguarding landscapes, including key agencies and their roles, and the capacity to navigate and influence within and out with this ecosystem.

About the role

Over the next year, we’re expecting around five of our existing contracts to come up for re-tender. We’re determined to position ourselves to be in the best possible place to sustain these and support the mental health needs of our communities.

Achieving this goal will require our services to actively demonstrate that they respond to the needs of both our communities and commissioners; meet both best practice guidelines and possibilities for greater service integration, whilst also delivering best value. This role will help achieve this goal through identifying opportunities for service transformation. As new service models and projects are developed, the role will also work alongside our operational Heads of Service to effectively and sustainably roll out change.

About you

You will have knowledge and understanding of working in the mental health space, and be an experienced change leader and project manager who is interested in working with us to improve future ways of working. You are a strategic thinker who can build partnerships and collaboration, but are just as comfortable getting into the detail and using data analysis and process mapping expertise to help services get ready for change. Ideally, you’ll have tender experience (from working with the NHS).

ABOUT THE ROLE

The Head of Operations and Development (HOD) will play a pivotal role in taking our work to its next stage, helping us deliver even greater impact across our community.

With ultimate decision making responsibility for the charity the HOD will work alongside the Head of Counselling and Head of Training,  overseeing the smooth running of day-to-day operations at the Centre while also nurturing opportunities for commercial growth by supporting the fundraising strategy and targeted expansion of our service offering.

Capable of working autonomously, you will be expected to form an integral part of an experienced, hardworking team of professionals and administrators who are dedicated to ensuring the Centre succeeds in all it does.

ABOUT YOU

First and foremost, you will be passionate about the importance of improving mental health in our community.

An excellent communicator with people at all levels, you will be in a position to leverage your commercial and business skills to build on the Centre’s existing operational framework. You will also be expected to get up to speed quickly with various aspects of the Centre’s business functions, including finance, IT and marketing.

Management-level experience in a charitable or not-for-profit organisation is an advantage, but more important is a hands-on, can-do approach and the motivation to help deliver the Centre’s strategy over the coming years.

The post is part-time with flexibility in the hours required. The role allows for hybrid working depending upon the demands of the job. Time at our offices in central Tunbridge Wells will be required.

The Deputy Head of Fundraising will play a pivotal role in advancing our mission. How you will make a difference:

• I ensure the delivery of safe, personalised services to each individual service user through assessment, person-centred planning and regular outcome focused reviews of services. 
• I ensure the development of aspirational support planning for individual residents.
• I ensure safe systems of work, such as personal safety and lone working; and compliance with all Rethink Mental Illness’ safety policies and systems. 
• I develop the quality of information recorded on Rethink Information System (RIS) and support staff in their use of RIS and the culture of person-centred support planning. 
• I ensure effective incident and accident management recording on Hive in line with legislation and contractual requirements, adhering to internal policies and procedures and regulatory notifications. 
• I maximise service user experience through developing an effective complaints management culture and recording on Hive in line with internal policies and procedures 
• I take a safeguarding lead role in the service, ensuring effective safeguarding practice and reporting. Establishing effective professional relationship with the safeguarding team.
• I provide effective line management to staff, including dealing with conduct, performance and attendance issues under relevant policies and procedures. 
• I recruit the best talent, managing the recruitment of staff as the selection panel leader, ensuring compliance with Recruitment & Selection policy and Equality legislation. 

Some of the essential skills and experience required:

• I have achieved (or working towards) Level 5 Diploma in Leadership in Health & Social Care or the equivalent.
• 2 years relevant experience in an operational management capacity in a health/social care setting. 
• Knowledge and understanding of the current legal responsibilities and standards for CQC registered services, including the need for the management and delivery of person-centred services. 
• Experience of providing effective supervision, leadership and management of staff. 
• Must have experience of directly working with people with a severe mental illness.
• Must have experience of working within statutory agencies.

We are looking for an Interim External Affairs Manager to help lead our communications activities from 24 June 2024 to 31 December, while our permanent External Affairs Manager is on sabbatical. REQUIRED SKILLS

About the role 

We're looking for a highly motivated and skilled Bid Manager who can actively craft commercial tender submissions and work with the team to ensure we submit high-quality, winning bids within UK government procurement rules.

You will sit in the Business and Strategy directorate and lead bid-writing across the organisation, line-managing a team of Bid Writers and working closely with other colleagues across Business Development, Marketing and Operations.

This position is a full-time, 35 hours a week, permanent contract with a starting salary between £44,500 - £50,000 per annum depending on skills and experience. Through your bid management expertise you will proactively manage the workload of the bid-team, balancing known pipeline opportunities and the unknown tenders issued, ensuring capacity to bid on rewins and make the most of the new business opportunities.

How you will make a difference

As the Workplace Mental Health and Training Manager, I develop, deliver and manage mental health training and initiatives to support employers, employees and others, in creating mentally healthy workplaces and communities.

I create, and oversee the creation of, new and bespoke training, initiatives and contribute to the design, development and delivery of consultancy services, aligned with our other services.

I review our existing products and services for reliability, evidence-base, relevancy and effectiveness and apply or project-manage improvements.

I ensure the continued high-quality of delivery of our mental health training and initiatives to external audiences across both Rethink Mental Illness and Mental Health UK.
