To support the Sports Events team with administrational duties, ensuring our fundraisers receive the best supporter experience possible, keeping accurate records and project managing small fundraising events. 

Main Responsibilities:

•  To provide facilities management to all YMCAES sites across East Surrey. This includes 5 housing schemes and one sports and community centre all owned by the YMCAES together with six family and youth centres that the YMCA lease from local authorities. 
• u  To manage a team of three maintenance technicians (full and part  time), and facilities administration assistant and to be responsible for their training and professional development 

• u  To be the Health and Safety Officer for YMCAES to ensure that the organisation complies with all current legislation and to encourage good practice throughout the YMCAES. 

• To be responsible for ensuring all risk assessments are up to date and accurate:
•   to carry out regular building risk assessments
•  where necessary support and advise staff in completion of risk assessments
•  to ensure fire risk assessments are carried out in accordance with legislation and good practice
•  To be responsible for the maintenance of YMCA buildings and sites. Including preparation of cyclical maintenance plans and to arrange and supervise necessary major works to be scheduled and safely carried out in accordance with the project plans. 
• To be responsible for managing the online maintenance system (Pyramid) ensuring accurate recording and reporting of:
• daily reactive maintenance tasks
• planned and cyclical maintenance tasks
•  all regulatory building compliance requirements.
•  To manage YMCAES building contracts and to comply with the Accepting Contracts and Procurement policies and procedures. 
• To be responsible for the compilation and upkeep of the preferred provider list of contractors.
• To put in place and manage a call out system for managers to respond to any emergencies relating to buildings.
•  To be responsible for all ground maintenance including management of a ground maintenance worker and/or external contracts. 
• u  To maintain the fleet of vehicles owned by YMCAES, including insurance, tax, MOT, fuel and maintenance.
•  To support HOCS for responsibility of all insurances required by the YMCAES. Ensuring compliance with legislation and efficiencies and effectiveness of all policies. Also, to ensure that necessary inspections and certification of lifts and other equipment are carried out as per requirements of insurers and current legislation.
• To provide the CEO and Head of Housing with advice and guidance around technical and regulatory requirements on YMCA property developments and acquisitions of new buildings.

 To work with the HOCS to prepare a budget for central costs (buildings and vehicles) and to manage this budget through the year. 

To prepare and present a report to the quarterly Governance and Risk Committee which has a remit for overseeing the organisational risk management framework, incident reporting and regulatory compliance. 

•  Any other duties are required to be performed within the grade and renumeration of the role.

DESCRIPTION

Job Purpose:To manage the facilities and services that support the core functions of YMCA East Surrey (YMCAES), including maintenance across multiple sites.

To be the competent person to oversee all health and safety matters across the organisation

Hours of work:35 hours per week , Monday to Friday 9.00am to 5.00pm.

What will I be doing?

The role of Community Youth Worker is, by nature, highly relational and is a position of great influence that enables you to nurture, inspire, connect and empower young people from all walks of life, so they can make the most of their lives. As such, it is a role which is demanding and carries great responsibility, but provides exciting opportunities to impact the lives of young people.

This is a varied role which carries with it a variety of different aspects and you are expected to manage your own workload and diary and priorities in liaison with your line manager and with the available time. Your role is primarily delivery but does also include some coordination relating to projects and volunteers. Due to the nature of the work you will be expected to work some evenings and occasional weekends.

Community Youth Work

Community Youth Work takes many forms and while the actual work is subject to change according to the current needs of young people or Matrix, it may include:

• Detached youth work
• Running/assisting with after-school and/or holiday clubs
• Mentoring young people
• Supporting young people in a social enterprise environment
• Research of young people’s needs in the local community

Youth Café

The Youth Hideaway is our flagship project and is a fun open access youth café run by our team after school at our social enterprise café - The Hideaway.

As a Community Youth Worker some of your time will be spent assisting the Youth Café, Project Lead and Head of Youth Work in delivering this project and it may include:

• Helping to create a safe, fun and inspiring environment for the young people that attend
• Plan, prepare and deliver quality youth sessions
• Build healthy relationships with young people that attend the sessions, identifying and responding to the needs that may arise

Monthly Youth Hubs

Youth Hubs are fun open access youth clubs run by our youth workers in the community. These are run on a monthly basis on rotation in different areas within Guildford Borough. As a Community Youth Worker you will be responsible for planning, organising and running at least one HUB, which may include:

• Creating a safe, fun and inspiring environment for the young people that attend

• Planning, preparing and delivering quality youth club sessions

• Building healthy relationships with young people that attend the club sessions, identifying and responding to the needs that may arise

• Promoting the activities of the Youth Hub in the community

• Exemplify the charity's values and Christian ethos to the wider ‘Hubs’ team, leading them in prayer where appropriate.

• Promote the activities of the Youth Café in the community

GASP Motor Project

Matrix will often work in collaboration with partner organisations and following a successful run of pilot sessions we are pleased to confirm that from September 2022 we will be extending our work with GASP Motor Project.

Working in this setting is very similar to the mentoring work that we offer in schools and you may be expected to:

• Conduct one-to-one sessions to listen to, analyse and respond to the physical, intellectual, emotional, social and spiritual needs of young people
• Manage, monitor and evaluate caseloads as part of the one-to-one support sessions
• Develop and run a variety of contact points for the young people attending the project, including group sessions
• Build good working relationships with the GASP team

Schools Work

Our work in schools is varied and you may be expected to:

• Conduct one-to-one sessions to listen to, analyse and respond to the physical, intellectual, emotional, social and spiritual needs of young people
• Manage, monitor and evaluate caseloads within your allocated school as part of the one-to-one support sessions
• Develop and run a variety of contact points and projects for young people across the school, including group sessions and drop-ins and after school projects
• Alongside the Secondary Schools Project Lead, supervise and build a team of volunteers to work within the school
• Build good working relationships with school staff, CAMHS and other relevant local services

General

• Contribute to, and be involved in fundraising and other activities that benefit Matrix, including whole staff workshop days, fundraising activities.

• During school holidays and after school, be involved in projects organised and run by Matrix, including holiday and after-school clubs (e.g. our Youth Café - The Youth Hideaway) within your allocated hours and as agreed by your line manager

• Raise the positive profile of Matrix by building professional relationships in a multi-agency environment including through networking events in the relevant local area, such as meeting with the community safety wardens, local schools, churches, Police and PCSOs

• Represent Matrix by providing a positive role-model to young people

• Promoting our activities in both the community and in a school environment through; social media engagement and assemblies

Level of Authority

As a Community Youth Worker, you will need to operate with a high degree of autonomy. You will be expected to administer your own time and workload in liaison with your line manager, keeping an ‘open’ diary for all activities. A working timetable for school holidays will be developed in consultation with your line manager.

Personal Specification

Essential

• A strong youth work background in a relevant field e.g.: youth work, teaching, social work
• Able to relate well to young people in all environments including (but not exclusively)school, 1:1, open youth clubs and partner projects
• Capable of building relationships with and liaising with other professionals
• Experience of leading workshops and / or groups sessions with young people
• Able to set appropriate boundaries with young people, in all situations

We are looking for someone with experience working with young people in a youth work setting and leading a team to open and take responsibility for the KFC Youth Foundation's first youth hub located in Middlesbrough.

The KFC Youth Foundation is the corporate foundation that was setup in 2015 and is financially supported by KFC UK&I. The KFC Youth Foundation is a charity.

Since its inception the KFC Youth Foundation has made donations and grants of more than £8m. In 2021 we became a community grant maker, offering grants of up to £2,500 to grass roots organisations working with young people in their communities. Organisations who share the passion we have for developing young people. Since setting up the programme we have made grants to a value of £351,570, supporting 10,271 young people.

But we aren’t ones to rest on our laurels and over the last 18 months we have been developing a strategy to transform ourselves into a service delivery organisation. It is our ambition to create KFC Youth Foundation Hubs; amazing spaces with awesome youth workers that allow young people who most need it, to feel safe and secure.

We are opening our first Youth Hub in Middlesbrough this summer. It is our intention to deliver open access youth services with a particular focus around food education, employment and food aid, by creating a training kitchen and cafe.

What will you be doing?

Ahead of the KFC Youth Foundation Hub opening you will be feet on the ground in Middlesbrough during the development of the Youth Hub to opening, supporting with the recruitment of youth workers and hub employees, policy writing, creating a youth board for the hub and co-designing opening programming and the opening of the hub.

Service Delivery & Partnership

• Responsible for the management and preparation(s) of programme delivery - play and youth work and early help provision onsite, that meets the needs of children, young people and families including through direct and partnership delivery with third sector providers.
• Develop and maintain the support needed for a varied 7-day programme of term-time and holiday youth provision (open access and targeted); inclusive of sports, arts, cultural and recreational activity that promotes the development of physical and emotional well-being
• You will have a local knowledge and be able to develop a meaningful dialogue with children, young people and families, with the purpose of assessing their needs and creating services to meet them.
• Establish an inclusive culture within the youth hub; where all are welcome and supported to participate, and where respect, honesty, and trust enables children and young people to thrive.

Leadership

The Lead Instructor Role:

We’re looking for someone to join our team who is just as passionate as we are about getting young people outdoors to have an adventure as we are. You will have great leadership potential, be organised and able to organise others, and have plenty of instructing experience with a range of groups and activities. You’ll want to learn and be prepared to put in the work to and effort needed to develop as a practitioner and a manager.

Key responsibilities as our Lead Instructor:

• Coaching, mentoring and pastoral supervision of the instructing team
• Maintaining accurate records of staff training, assessment and competency, equipment and activity facilities, operating procedures and risk assessments
• Assisting with the creation of group programmes and staff timetables
• Ensuring relevant checks, processes and paperwork are maintained to meet external and internal accreditation standards - including management of equipment and PPE
• Delivering adventurous activity, and training to internal and external clients
• Monitoring the safety and quality of activity sessions
• Working as a Duty Manager being the first point of contact for the daily operation of the centre on a rota basis; including managing the site team and any service crews, providing an ‘on call’ service during out of hours times for guests on centre, and support with first aid and safeguarding
• Assisting other staff, including taking bookings, checking in/out groups and liaising with guests
• As a youth focused organisation, applicants agree to comply at all times with the safeguarding rules including vetting and Basic/Enhanced DBS checks

• Competent IT skills especially in office applications
• The ability to supervise staff including appropriate delegation, encouraging personal development and managing performance
• Experience working with High Ropes and Target Sports sessions and equipment
• Experience working in an outdoor education or activity centre – working with a wide range of groups and activities
• Experience in leading, mentoring and supporting others
