Have you got the skills needed to mobilise Churches in London for mission in a cross-cultural context?
Do you have experience in sharing the love of God and His gospel within diverse urban communities?
Do you have a passion for mission in London?
At London City Mission, we estimate that one in two Londoners, that’s roughly 4.5 million people, are unlikely to hear the gospel in their lifetime. These are the people who are unlikely to have a Christian friend to invite them to church or introduce them to the hope they can find in Jesus Christ. Many of those who have never heard the gospel will be from diverse people groups and faith communities.
We are convinced more than ever that LONDON NEEDS JESUS! And we believe that God’s plan is to reach this city through his church. As a Mission, we are partnering with churches who have a growing passion for reaching out to their neighbourhoods with the good news of Jesus Christ, but who need equipping and building up for this crucial work. This role is, therefore, Church mobilisation role.
We are seeking candidates for a Missionary role who have a passion for sharing the good news of Jesus with specific groups of Londoners, but who can also come alongside churches to train and inspire Christian believers to reach their local communities with the hope of the gospel. We are recruiting to the following roles:
-
Pan-London Team – Prisons & Resettlement specialism
-
Waterloo & Brixton – Homeless and Marginalised specialism
The successful candidates will be able to demonstrate a love for those least likely to hear of Jesus and marginalised people groups of London; a track record in evangelism amongst those from the particular specialism group; and the ability to inspire others in churches across a geographical area to get involved in ministry. They will work alongside and equip church volunteers for outreach amongst the people groups in their communities, working as part of an experienced gospel ministry team. They will also need to be able to raise ministry personal support, including a target financial support as well as prayer supporters for the work of the Mission through personal and church partnership networks.
These positions are full-time, permanent appointments. Starting salary is £21,720 per annum plus £1,100 per month housing allowance (taxable). Mission housing will be discussed with successful candidates after probation. Targets for personal financial support will be £8,500 for the year 2024.
There is an occupational requirement that the persons appointed be an evangelical Christian. Occupational Requirement provision of the Equality Act 2010 applies. The appointed candidate will be required to undertake a DBS check.

And, when someone’s ready to move on, we'll rely on you to help them access the housing register or look for suitable rented accommodation.
What we’re looking for:
You may have worked with vulnerable young people in a paid or voluntary capacity, maybe as a Youth Worker or in an education setting providing pastoral care. You’re a great relationship builder, who can create trust so that our young people feel comfortable sharing their issues with you, you listen but in a non-judgemental way and you are able to spot signs for concern and act on them. You’ll also need to be able to work on your own, sometimes dealing with challenging situations and diffusing them to avoid escalation. Is this you?
- Relationship building skills
- Empathy
- Great listening skills
- Diplomacy and the ability to deal with challenging situations and diffuse them
- Non judgmental
- Proactive and assertive

About the organisation:
The organisation exists because our decision-makers don’t reflect the society they serve. For more than a decade now, this has meant delivering programmes to support young people aged 18 – 25 from ethnically and culturally diverse backgrounds to take on leadership roles in their communities and to stand out on their employment journeys.
We recruit young people who have talent and passion and who wish to make a difference, supporting them to develop the networks, skills and confidence they need to fulfil their potential. In doing so, we open up their pathways to positions of influence in their career and their community. Over the past decade, we’ve supported nearly 5,000 young people in total, 65% of whom come from a Black, Asian or minority ethnic background, 55% of whom are the first in their family to go to university and 59% of whom identify as women.
You may also have experience in areas such as: Participant Support And Delivery Officer, Participant Support Officer, Participant Delivery Officer, Participation Engagement lead, Community Engagement lead, Participation and Community Engagement lead, Programme Development Manager etc.
PLEASE NOTE: This role is being advertised by NFP People on behalf of the organisation.
