When someone suffers a traumatic injury or life‑threatening medical emergency, every second matters. Midlands Air Ambulance Charity (MAAC) exists to save lives by saving time - bringing hospital‑level intervention directly to scenes of critical need across six counties, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

For more than three decades, our clinicians have delivered treatments usually only found inside an A&E department: pre‑hospital emergency anaesthesia, advanced drugs, surgical interventions, and rapid blood transfusion. Every mission we fly - more than 80,000 since our formation - is funded entirely by public generosity. We receive no NHS or Government funding. Our ability to save lives depends on the strength, foresight and resilience of our finances.

We are now entering a pivotal phase. As Finance Director, you will play a central role in shaping this next chapter – ensuring that our lifesaving work remains financially sustainable, strategic, and ready for what the future demands.

Working collaboratively with the Board, CEO and Senior Leadership Team, the Finance Director plays a lead role in ensuring that our financial decisions are bold but responsible, that our financial resources are deployed authentically in service of patient need, and that colleagues - from frontline clinicians to volunteers - are supported by stable, assured financial stewardship.

This is a mission-led role of real consequence. You will hold a unique vantage point across the entire organisation: playing a lead role in shaping financial strategy, ensuring robust financial stewardship and cost management, safeguarding financial risk, and enabling confident, evidence-based financial decision-making at executive and Board level.

Your contribution

· Provide strategic financial leadership that strengthens resilience, supports growth and ensures MAAC is future-ready.

· Build trusted relationships across the Board, Executive, Senior Leadership Team and clinical leaders - becoming a critical partner in financial organisational planning. 

· Lead Group-wide financial stewardship across charity and trading operations, securing robust controls and transparent reporting. Ensure financial systems, processes and controls remain best-in-class, enabling clarity, accountability and operational confidence.

· Steward financial risk and compliance, including oversight of the investment portfolio, reserves strategy and financial statutory obligations.

· Report to the Audit and Risk Committee and Board of Trustees to provide assurance that financial controls are adequate, appropriate and operating effectively – supporting Trustees in carrying out their governance responsibilities.

· Play a lead role in shaping our long-term financial plan, working collaboratively to manage costs and grow income through innovation and diversification.

· Model values-led leadership, supporting the development, wellbeing and capability of a high-performing Finance team.

We are a small but growing team of lawyers, communications experts, and campaigners. We are a CIC, not a practising law firm. We partner with legal firms on cases, directing litigation in multiple jurisdictions. The role

The post holder will work alongside our Co-Executive Director, Head of Legal and Legal Administrator in developing and managing Foxglove’s legal work. You will develop and drive forward a significant number and range of cases, including the development of case theories, investigating and collecting evidence, drafting correspondence, evidence and submissions. You will also be responsible for coordinating and managing external legal teams, in multiple jurisdictions. This will require you to have the comfort and ability to navigate diverse settings, while also having the insight to weigh up the benefits and challenges of pursuing cases in different jurisdictions. You will serve as an external representative for Foxglove’s work, writing and speaking on topics of relevance. You will also be a sparring partner for others in the team, bringing a creative mindset and political savviness. UK and international travel are required. Flexibility with working hours will sometimes be needed.

Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Case Development and Management

• Build connections, and listen to affected communities, unearth and pursue issues caused by tech injustice, coming up with innovative legal solutions.
• Build and maintain relationships with impacted community members, unions, other lawyers, experts, co-counsel, intervenors, civil society organisations, whistleblowers, and the public.
• Explore and develop new and undiscovered opportunities for Foxglove to be impactful and effective in our work.
• Effectively work with the co-Executive Director and Head of Legal to develop and implement Foxglove’s legal strategy.
• Manage multiple cases at any one time, while also thinking to the future regarding cases that should be explored and developed.

Other

• Help ensure communities’, workers’ and affected individual’s voices are heard in our campaigns, communications and advocacy work.

Person Specification

Essential

• Substantial experience in legal practice and conducting litigation and a demonstrated understanding of litigation strategies.
• Creative thinking and imagination.
• A strong interest in using the law to hold governments and companies to account.
• Qualified lawyer in any jurisdiction with at least 10 years of legal experience.
• Significant experience in legal practice in the UK.  
• Demonstrable commitment to supporting marginalised communities to access justice.
• Ability to learn new areas of law quickly and develop new areas of work.
• Good political antennae and excellent relationship building and management skills.
• Experience conducting cases from initial advice through to trial.
• Relevant experience in analysing complex factual and legal situations and helping to advise clients in accordance with their aims.
• Experience in dealing sensitively with clients, whistleblowers and experts.
• Experience in working on complex matters, which require analysis of large amounts of documents and data.
• Excellent communication skills, demonstrated by the ability to communicate accurately, clearly, concisely and persuasively, both verbally and in writing.
• Excellent time management skills demonstrated by the ability to organise and prioritise a complex workload and work to tight deadlines.
• Experience in working and leading a team environment.
• Comfort with working at both the details-driven operational level and big-picture strategic level, as well as the ability to navigate between the two.

Length and Salary

The role is permanent. The annual salary is £88,400 per annum less any required deductions for income tax and national insurance.

Our team works remotely, and this role can be based anywhere. We would prefer you to work within or close to UK office hours, but this is flexible. Our team travels every two months for team days and twice a year for team retreats. This role will include significant UK and international travel. Only candidates with the right to work in their location will be considered.

About the Role

This is an exciting role that will lead the successful growth and delivery of the Smart Works Pop Up Shops and sales, other fundraising events and the community fundraising programme. Managing the Events and Community Manager(s), you will work closely with the Wardrobe and wider Partnerships Team to deliver exceptional events, raise vital funds and secure stock for clients and fundraising. 

The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and implementing a robust strategy of Pop up shops and Sales, Events and Community Fundraising, to generate £800k+ of in-year income, and bolster future financial and community engagement opportunities.

The candidate will also work closely with the Head of Wardrobe and Retail Partnerships Manager, growing partnerships with retail brands which support Smart Works’ activities.

We seek a Head with experience in delivering end-to-end events, as well as demonstrable experience of fundraising through retail activations. An ability to work under pressure, deliver to tight deadlines, juggle conflicting priorities and exceed set targets will be key.

The Opportunity

Engagement is becoming central to how school leaders think about improvement. The 2026 White Paper reframed it as a lead indicator of school improvement. Ofsted's new framework gives it weight. MAT CEOs and headteachers increasingly want termly data they can act on, and TEP is built to provide exactly that.

We have a strong foundation in the North of England, as a region with some of our founding partners, including Outwood Grange Academies Trust, The Education Alliance, BDAT and Pathfinder were among our Research in the Commission for Engagement and a Lead Indicator and we are proud to still have in our community. However, there is still substantial appetite across the North for TEP to give trust and school leaders precision they can act on. There is a pipeline of interested trusts. And there is real opportunity to shape a regional story (events, flagship partnerships, local authority engagement) that compounds as partnerships grow.

The Regional Director will own that opportunity and lead business development in the region. You'll be building on a proven product and a credible research base, and joining at the point where regional presence matters most. Early work will focus on opening new partnerships at trust level, stewarding a small number of strategic relationships with sector bodies and Teaching School Hubs, and establishing TEP as a trusted voice in the region.

• Partnerships team support. A Marketing function, a Community team handling delivery, and colleagues across ImpactEd Group opening doors.

• Early pipeline to build on. Warm conversations with trusts in the region, and a growing profile in the sector to build on.

• Real commercial ambition. Clear termly targets, a performance-related pay structure, and the opportunity of employee shares through EMI.

• A base in Leeds. A vibrant, accessible city-centre office two minutes from Leeds station, in the heart of the tech hub of the north.

The role

You'll lead TEP's growth and business development across the North of England: opening new partnerships with schools and trusts, stewarding strategic relationships with sector bodies, and shaping how TEP shows up in the region. You'll have real autonomy, backed by a Director who's hands-on with strategy, a growing marketing function, and the research weight of ImpactEd Group behind you.

There are three main areas of responsibility:

• Winning new partnerships: Lead new business across the North of England, opening conversations with schools and trusts, converting them into partnerships, and delivering against termly targets.

• Growing strategic partnerships: Steward the region's highest-value partnerships (typically Teaching School Hubs, sector bodies, or place-based local authority partnerships), leading the relationship and evidencing TEP's impact.

• Contributing to TEP more broadly: Feed regional intelligence into TEP's business planning: where the growth is, where the risks are, and help embed scalable ways of working.

About you

We are open to a range of backgrounds, though it is likely the successful candidate will have significant experience working in or closely with schools and education, and experience in selling products or developing partnerships with school leaders. This role offers hybrid working, with 3 days per week in the office or on the road. You should be willing to travel across the North of England for partner meetings, conferences and events (approximately 50% of your time), with occasional UK-wide travel.

• Experience working within or closely with UK schools, Local Authorities and multi-academy trusts, ideally with an existing network across Northern England

• A demonstrable track record in partnership development, account management, or educational sales

• Experience presenting to a senior education leaders (Headteachers, CEOs, Directors)

• A strong understanding of school budgeting cycles and decision-making processes

• Experience delivering presentations or public speaking.

ABOUT CORPORATE PERFORMANCE

A growing number of companies and financial institutions are seeking to mitigate their impacts on nature. But many have made commitments that are not being met, and others are failing to take any action at all. We hold the most exposed companies and financial institutions to account through our Forest 500 project, by assessing their policies and performance.

With our suite of Deforestation-free Finance Guidance and a forthcoming new tool, DEFT Pathway, we provide tools and data for financial institutions and investors to support effective engagement with high-risk companies. We support the finance sector, policy makers and other stakeholders by providing market-leading data on deforestation and ESG metrics through Forest IQ.

ABOUT THE ROLE

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced and deeply knowledgeable Programme Director. It is an opportunity to become part of an accomplished and proactive team at the heart of the fight against market-driven deforestation and nature loss.

You will be a strong technical leader who excels at programmatic management and delivery. With a drive and passion for effective delivery, technical quality and rigour, and ensuring teams are well organised and properly resourced to meet their individual and collective objectives on time and on budget. You will lead the management and mentoring of the team and its development to ensure it is equipped and motivated to deliver on and scale-up its day to day work, while also continuing to innovate. 

You will participate in strategy development and external representation, helping to ensure we stay at the leading edge of global efforts to transition to deforestation-free supply chains and portfolios. You will ensure that our external partnerships are well managed, and that we are continuing to secure the resources and relationships needed to effectively deliver on our strategy in this fast-moving space.

The programme is structured as three workstreams, which work across our projects and products. The workstreams Leads are responsible for delivery, so a key part of your role will be in supporting and enabling them and their teams to effectively deliver on their goals:

• Research, Methodologies and Innovation
• Data and Product
• Uptake (Communications and Engagement)

The workstreams all work across Forest 500, Forest 500 – Finance, Floresta 250 – Cattle, Deforestation-free Finance Sector Guidance, Forest IQ, and DEFT Pathway.

You will also hold overall budget and fundraising responsibilities for the team and be supported by a dedicated Finance Business Partner and our Development Team.

You will ensure that we are making the most of the technical expertise, data and other synergies across Global Canopy as a whole, leveraging the time and skills of regional and cross-cutting programmes, such as the Brazil-based team and Human Rights and Learning & Development functions.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Programme leadership

• Lead the effective implementation of the Corporate Performance strategy and workplan through the oversight and management of delivery of the Corporate Performance portfolio of projects. Ensure effective and impactful delivery, building and maintaining strong relationships with partners and strong programme management and leadership. 
• Oversee all major programme management tasks and deliverables including ensuring delivery against budgets, risks and opportunity management and escalation, donor reporting and deliverables. Day-to-day management of workstreams will be with the respective workstream Leads.
• Guide and direct the Corporate Performance team, ensuring technical excellence and high-quality outputs. Support their growth and development as individuals and in sharing learning opportunities across the team. This includes line management of Corporate Performance Leads and matrix working across Global Canopy teams.

Team and people management

• Develop multi-year plans and design processes to ensure staff ownership and clarity of roles and responsibilities.
• Empower, support and line manage staff including technical coaching, career development and progression planning as well as identification of key team capabilities to be developed.

Strategy, fundraising and external representation

• Stay abreast of external developments affecting our strategy. This includes engaging with NGO peers and our target audiences of companies, financial institutions and policymakers.
• Manage partnerships and identify new strategic partnerships to further drive forward the Corporate Performance work of Global Canopy and partners.
• Work with other senior colleagues in Corporate Performance and Global Canopy to develop the strategy and future opportunities via consultative processes.
• Working collaboratively with the Development team to cultivate and sustain strong relationships with both new and existing donors, while developing tailored fundraising proposals as needed to sustain and grow the programme..
• Engage in public speaking at conferences, on webinars and more to engage stakeholders and inspire action on deforestation by companies, financial institutions and other key players.

SALARY & BENEFITS

Salary: £70,000 full time equivalent (This role sits within Band B on Global Canopy’s remuneration framework.)

Nature of contract: Full- or part-time (0.8 FTE), fixed term (24 months). We are a flexible employer and welcome candidates wishing to work flexibly.

Base: Our office is in Oxford, with flexible home-working arrangements in place. Ability to attend the office fortnightly at minimum would be desirable. We will support UK visa sponsorship for this position. 

Holidays: 36 days (including bank/public holidays) for discretionary use across the annual leave year. Option to purchase up to an additional 5 days or equivalent of one week’s leave.
