Job description

Age UK London are looking for an enthusiastic campaigner to support the development and delivery of our campaigns and influencing work to improve the lives of older Londoners and ensure their views are heard by decision makers.

We are a charity that campaigns for an age-friendly London. Our mission is to campaign for specific change to improve the lives of older Londoners and ensure that their experiences, needs and contributions are heard and taken into account by decision makers.

We are a small, friendly, collaborative team who work together to improve the lives of older people living in London. We are happy to discuss flexible working arrangements.

The Campaigns Support Officer will play a key role in the team helping to ensure our campaigns achieve significant impact.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. To work with the Senior Campaigns Officer, Campaigns Engagement Officer and Chief Executive to develop and deliver campaigns to improve the lives of older Londoners.
  2. To undertake administrative tasks to support the smooth running of the charity’s campaigning work including arranging meetings, taking minutes, disseminating information to stakeholders and updating records.
  3. To provide administrative support to local campaign groups and assist in the planning and running of local campaign meetings and events.
  4. To draft text for newsletters, website, campaign reports, blogs social media and press releases.
  5. To undertake desk research to support campaign development.
  6. To support the charity’s media and communications work by undertaking media monitoring and assisting with compiling communications’ performance reports.
  7. To work with campaigners and volunteers to support campaigning work. This will include support with the creation of campaign resources and responding to email enquiries from older Londoners.
  8. To occasionally represent Age UK London at external meetings.
  9. To undertake any other duties as required.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Essential

  • An interest in campaigning to achieve social change.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills including verbal and written communications.
  • Ability to follow a work plan and to use own initiative to identify further work needs.
  • Time management skills, the ability to handle a wide range of different tasks and responsibilities, and good attention to detail.
  • High standard of computer competency and literacy, including experience of using Microsoft Office, and the ability to learn how to use digital campaigning tools.
  • The ability to focus on short-term priorities and to be aware of how activities contribute to longer-term campaign objectives.

Desirable

  • Experience and knowledge of issues affecting older people and their organisations including the importance of an age-friendly London.
  • Experience and knowledge of campaigning and/or working with or in City Hall, Parliament, or a local council.
  • Experience of working in the voluntary sector.
