About the role
As our Senior Finance & Operations Officer, you will be at the heart of our organisation’s success. Working closely with the Director, Finance and Operations, you will help to manage financial processes, streamline operations, and ensure both our UK and EU teams are properly resourced to drive our mission forward. You will interact daily with a broad range of stakeholders in the UK and the EU including senior level staff, external consultants and suppliers in the while also working closely with Finance, HR & IT colleagues in the US.
Key responsibilities
Financial Management (30%)
- Support on day-to-day financial activities including financial reporting, accounts payable and accounts receivable.
- Develop and implement best practices to optimise operational efficiency and effectiveness.
- Collaborate with the team to develop and monitor project budgets.
- Support decision-making through insightful financial analysis.
Operational Support (40%)
- Be the first point of contact for all enquiries from the campaigns and fundraising teams in the UK and EU.
Contracts Lifecycle Management (30%)
- Oversee the lifecycle of all supplier contracts: creation, submission and signing. (Legal contract knowledge is not required.)
About you
You will be a dynamic individual with a can-do attitude who has a proven track record of juggling competing priorities and meeting deadlines in a fast-paced environment. The role is varied and has a significant financial element so strong numeracy skills, a solid knowledge of financial management principles paired with good communications skills are important. We're looking for someone with experience of verging or similar church support work. Good social skills are essential as is the ability to work as part of a team as well as on your own inititiave. The ability to work closely with and relate well to all Cathedral staff, ministry team, congregation, volunteers, visitors, and members of the general public will also be required.
The two Assistant Vergers and Precinct Officers (AVPOs) carry out a wide range of duties under the direction of the Head Verger and Precinct Manager. Work includes: the careful setting up and delivery of all liturgical matters; ensuring a welcoming, clean, and safe environment for all working in, visiting, or using the Cathedral and Cathedral House and precinct and ensuring the day-to-day smooth running of the Cathedral for all.
Essential experience and skills
- Sympathy with the Christian faith.
- At least one year’s experience as a church or cathedral verger or in a similar role.

The Volunteering Team is a collaborative and supportive team sitting within Shelter’s Equity, Inclusion & Culture Directorate. We are passionate about the positive impacts of volunteering for both individuals and causes and believe volunteers are a vital part of Shelter’s Fight for Home.
Shelter involves around 2,000 volunteers in our shops, offices and local communities. The Volunteering Team enable a coordinated and consistent approach to how we involve volunteers across Shelter and Shelter Scotland. About the Role
As a Volunteering Administrator, you will be essential to the coordination of the Volunteering Team’s work in developing a consistent, inclusive and high-quality volunteering offer. You’ll be delivering administrative support across the team, enabling smooth delivery of the service. This will include managing our busy Mailboxes, processing elements of volunteer recruitment and administrating our volunteer database, Better Impact. Working on the database forms a large part of this role; as well as routine tasks such as data reporting, you’ll be working on more in-depth database development. This includes leading on a piece of work restructuring the way our database is set up.
You’ll also be supporting volunteer managers through delivering training demonstrations on our database, creating process guides and providing advice. You’ll provide additional admin support across the Volunteering Team, including coordinating meetings and managing agendas. You’ll be a key member of the team with in-depth knowledge and understanding on volunteering processes and policies to promote our volunteering culture across Shelter and Shelter Scotland.

About you
Having strong administration skills with confident use of databases is essential for this role. Shelter Sheffield provide housing advice and support to people across the city with a focus on emergency homelessness, intensive support for children and families, people experiencing domestic abuse and people with multiple and complex needs. We take a holistic approach to help people deal with interrelated issues that can impact their ability to keep a home and help over 5000 people a year while also working to change the underlying systems that cause the housing emergency.

About the role
As a valued member of our Customer Engagement team, your role will be pivotal in driving our support and fundraising efforts through outbound calling. Your mission is to connect with our British Heart Foundation (BHF) supporters, who are the lifeblood of our organisation.
Here’s how you’ll make a difference:
- Supporter Engagement Specialist: Connecting with our BHF supporters through outbound calls.
- Fundraising Event Advocate: Promoting major fundraising events like the London Marathon and the London to Brighton Bike Ride.
- Customer Experience Ambassador: Enhancing satisfaction and relationships through social media and stewardship activities.
Working arrangements
We have two 6-month fixed term contracts available. These roles, while initially for six months, could potentially lead to permanent job opportunities.
Working hours are between 09:00am – 07:00pm, subject to business needs. Normal working hours are 09:00am to 05:00pm - Monday to Friday, with flexibility to work 11:00am - 07:00pm during peak event season.
This is a blended role, where your work will be dual located between your home and our Birmingham office (B37 7YE).
At the BHF we believe in the power of being together, so our colleagues on blended contracts can expect to spend some time in their office, at least one day each week, on average. The use of our office spaces is driven in part by your role and the activities you need to do. - Outbound Calling Experience: You’ve honed your skills in a call centre environment, where you’ve built strong relationships over the phone. You can use your experience in this environment to enhance our customer experience and drive fundraising revenue.

As a small charity, the role will require balancing practical tasks with strategic planning and management. Building on what has already been done, you will work directly with the CEO to help build the operational structure of Big Green Heart, and support its day-to-day operations.
You will also facilitate the national deployment of Big Green Heart workshops across the UK, and will work with the CEO and trustees to implement the strategy needed to upscale the work of Big Green Heart.
