About the role
This new role is to manage the bursary and welfare services of Marine Society. Responsibilities
· Assess and process all bursary applications, including Slater Scholarships, Worcester, Hanway and Green Skills bursaries against clearly defined eligibility criteria
· Authorise the award of financial bursaries and approve beneficiary claims and expenses
· Maximise the use bursary funding and ensure successful outcomes for beneficiaries
· Identify new bursary funding opportunities and devise bids in collaboration with the fundraising team
· Manage the bursary and Coming Ashore programme restricted funds. Monitor and report on expenditure and activity
· Manage the operation of the Coming Ashore mentoring programme and ensure its sustainability
· Produce statistical reports and analysis pertaining to bursaries and welfare services for internal and external stakeholders.
· Put in place and maintain online and physical resources that provide seafarers with information, advice and guidance and supports maritime career development.
· To lead the annual Matrix accreditation process
· Work with the Digital Marketing Coordinator to ensure the effective marketing of bursary and welfare provision through a range of media and ensure the website remains up to date and relevant to seafarer needs.

The Operations Manager has overall responsibility for the Operations Team and will work closely with all members of the team. They will also be part of the wider staff team in which we pray for one another and support one another to achieve our purpose and lead our ministries.

The Merchant Taylors’ Company dates from 1327, when it was formed as a social and religious organisation for tailors and linen-armourers dedicated to St John the Baptist. Today, it is a flourishing Livery Company whose members are dedicated to education, fraternity, and philanthropy.
Volunteering is important for the health of the Merchant Taylors’ Company, since the hands-on experience of volunteering binds members in an emotional commitment to what the Company stands for. Many of the Great XII Livery Companies prioritise volunteering, offering a wide range of opportunities from due diligence visits with grant applicant charities to longer term mentoring opportunities with our family of schools.
At the heart of Merchant Taylors’ Company lie the concepts of ‘Fraternity, Philanthropy and Education’. Volunteering is vital to each pillar, enabling members to give their time and talent alongside their treasure.

The job
Reporting to the Financial Planning and Reporting Manager, this role plays a key part in supporting effective financial decision making across the organisation. The Management Accountant acts as a finance business partner to circa 20 budget holders across a diverse portfolio, including Building and Projects, Philanthropy and Fundraising, and corporate services functions such as Finance and IT.
The role supports stakeholders throughout the annual budget, forecasting and year end reporting cycle, ensuring that financial information is accurate, well understood and actively used to inform decision making. Responsibilities include producing monthly management accounts and commentary, providing financial analysis and insight for senior stakeholders, supporting budgets and forecasts, contributing to year end and audit processes, and delivering operational finance and ad hoc analytical support.
This is a hands on, outward facing role in a fast moving environment, offering broad exposure across a complex organisation.
The person
Candidates will have a proven finance background, ideally in management accounting or business partnering. You will be part-qualified, qualified, or with equivalent experience.
The successful individual will be technically strong, analytical and detail focused, with the ability to work to tight deadlines and manage competing priorities. They will be confident engaging with non finance colleagues, building trusted relationships, and explaining financial information clearly and pragmatically.
Strong systems skills are required, particularly in Excel, with the ability to interrogate finance systems to extract insight. A flexible mindset, a proactive approach and a desire to continuously improve processes are essential.

Summary of Responsibilities
- Relationship Management: Building relationships with commissioners and stakeholders in supported accommodation and health in a dedicated geographic area covering all of our client groups - learning disabilities, mental health, homelessness, young people
- Commercial Business Partnering: Work with operational colleagues in designated patch to support the end-to-end business development process including contract extensions and renegotiations.
- Tender Management: Monitoring, managing, and drafting high- quality submissions, for Local Authority and Health Trusts, frameworks and Dynamic Purchasing Systems, focusing primarily on own patch but contributing to and supporting tender exercises coordinated by other members of the business development team as required.
