Job description

The Danish Refugee Council (DRC), one of the world’s leading humanitarian organizations, is seeking an experienced and dynamic Head of Programs to lead and strengthen the quality and impact of our operations in South Sudan.

About the Role:

As a key member of the Senior Management Team, the Head of Programs will oversee the design, development, and implementation of DRC’s humanitarian and development programs across South Sudan. The role provides strategic leadership in program quality, technical support, MEAL, grant management, partnerships, and innovation. You will also lead specialized teams including the Mobile Response Team and the Humanitarian Disarmament & Peacebuilding Team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead country program strategy, development, and planning.
  • Oversee program implementation, coordination, and integration across sectors.
  • Drive quality assurance, MEAL systems, and adaptive learning.
  • Lead proposal development, donor reporting, and fundraising efforts.
  • Manage and build the capacity of technical and programmatic teams.
  • Represent DRC to donors, partners, government, and coordination forums.
  • Collaborate on advocacy, communication, and partnership development.

About You:

  • Minimum 8 years of program management experience in humanitarian or development contexts, with at least 3 years managing a large, multi-sectoral portfolio.
  • Proven leadership in program strategy, quality assurance, MEAL, and donor relations.
  • Experience working in complex and insecure environments, ideally in displacement settings.
  • Strong fundraising, coordination, and external representation skills.
  • Proven experience in managing teams, staff development, and strategic partnerships.
  • Postgraduate degree in International Relations, Development, or a related field.

Why Join Us?

This is a unique opportunity to shape impactful programming in one of DRC’s most complex country operations. You will be part of a supportive leadership team, driving solutions that make a real difference in people’s lives.

Interested? Apply now to join a committed and passionate team delivering lasting humanitarian solutions in South Sudan.
