WHAT WE DO
We work in Lebanon with Syrian and Palestinian women, and in the UK with women from all over the world.
Our arts projects include theatre and craft therapy, filmmaking and feminist embroidery. We also facilitate access to training, education and income generation opportunities, and run workshops on parenting support and on women’s rights in a context of rights for all.
Our flagship Oshana project provides refugee women in Lebanon with a dignified income, a supportive community, and a creative outlet for trauma through embroidery and crochet - and has built a reputation for beautiful design and impeccable craftsmanship.
We are a young but ambitious organisation that is transforming the lives of hundreds of refugee women and their families in Lebanon, and dozens in the UK. We have rapidly grown over the past three years, with an accompanying increase in income.
WHO WE ARE
Makani was founded in 2022 and officially registered as a charity in June 2024. One of our co-founders has her own lived experience of displacement; both have worked for many years supporting women who have been forced to leave their homes.
We now have two staff in the UK and four in Lebanon. We work from home with occasional meetings in London for UK-based staff. As Finance and Administration Manager, you will join us as our seventh staff member, a key member of the team.

THE ROLE
We are looking for an experienced and dedicated Finance and Administration Manager to lead on developing and maintaining our financial and organisational systems, enabling Makani to increase our impact on the lives of refugee women.
Position: Finance and Administration Manager
Contract type: Permanent - but also open to applications on a consultant basis
Responsible to: Director of Operations
Location: Home-based, with occasional meetings in London (transport costs covered)
Hours: 20 hours per week, core hours to be agreed upon appointment, flexitime-friendly
Salary: £35,000 per annum pro rata (£20,000 for the 20 hour week)

28 days annual leave pro rata (not including bank holidays)

KEY ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES
Finance
-
Work with the Executive team to set and monitor annual budgets

Record all financial transactions using accounting software (Xero)

Record and track multiple restricted and unrestricted grants from a range of donors

Prepare and present quarterly management accounts for the Board

Prepare end-of-year accounts

Oversee payroll and ensure timely invoice payments

Ensure the charity complies with the financial requirements of the Charity Commission, HMRC and other bodies

Develop and maintain financial procedures and internal controls

Liaise with external accountants or auditors for the preparation of annual accounts and statutory reporting

Monitor cash flow and support the Director of Operations in maintaining financial sustainability

Work with colleagues to prepare budgets and financial reports for funders

Contribute to development of funding bids, with Executive Team.
Administration & HR

Support the board and senior staff to maintain and update charity policies (safeguarding, finance, HR, etc.)

Support the board to develop HR processes to ensure legal compliance

Organise and minute quarterly trustee meetings

Book travel and support with other logistics as needed

Other administrative tasks as relevant and appropriate
ROLE REQUIREMENTS
You will have:

Proven experience in charity financial management, including restricted/unrestricted funding

Familiarity with or willingness to learn Xero accounting software

Familiarity with UK charity accounting and reporting standards

Strong organisational and administrative skills

Ability to work independently and remotely and to communicate well in a small team

Understanding of good HR policies and practice for small charities

Understanding of or willingness to learn about other key areas of compliance such as data protection

Role Context
The Team Leader is responsible for supporting the development, management, and supervision of the Kentown Support therapeutic offer. The expectation of the Team Leader role is that 50% of their time will be allocated to their supervisory responsibilities, including line management of designated staff. The remainder of their time will be allocated to casework support. The Team Leader will support with contract monitoring and reporting requirements of the service, ensuring high quality delivery, ongoing support for the team, and the growth and development of new projects and initiatives.
Role Purpose
The postholder will provide line management support to staff within this team, ensuring effective case management and supervision. The role will include supporting and working with the CYP and CC Therapy Services Coordinator and Manager and other team members to drive continuous improvements to service delivery as well as ensuring monitoring reports are completed in line with requirements for our commissioners.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
Management of staff:
• Provide 1:1 line management supervision and casework support for the designated contract with the CYP and CC Therapy Service Manager’s guidance.
• Identify staff training and development needs as part of supervision and appraisal process.
• Effectively undertake annual appraisals and support staff to meet their Personal Development Plan.
• Lead on the day-to-day oversight of the services in the CYP and CC Therapy Coordinator’s absence (avoid booking annual leave during this same time when possible).
• Ensure referrals are allocated appropriately in line with team members’ targets and capacity with support and guidance.
• Develop training plans for new starters during their probationary period.
• Lead on the support and supervision for any student social workers and counselling trainees placed within the CYP Team in close collaboration with the Student Social Worker Placement team.
• Provide support around safeguarding issues to the team members together with CYP and CC Therapy Service Coordinator and Manager.
Service Development:
• Lead on the oversight and development of the Kentown Support service, in collaboration with service management.
• Take a solution-focused and evidence-based approach to service challenges.
• Support CYP and CC Therapy Service management in developing policies and procedures in line with best practice.
• Represent the Kentown Support service at meetings, forums, and events where appropriate.
• Undertake initial investigations into complaints relating to the Service as needed.
• To assist in the development of the Service by working with other VCSE organisations, schools, and statutory and NHS bodies to enhance the wellbeing and resilience of their service users.
• Implement HR processes as appropriate and agreed, reporting issues upwards whilst seeking to intervene at the earliest opportunity so as to seek a resolution.
Contract Monitoring:
• Report to the CYP and CC Therapy Service Manager on the delivery of the Kentown Support Service on a regular basis.
• To lead on service monitoring and reporting to ensure it is completed in line with contract requirements.
• To meet with commissioners and funders as required to support the service.
Providing therapeutic support to individuals:
• Offer therapeutic interventions and support to individuals and families on your caseload. This may be with adults in the family or with children and young people in the family.
• Provide post-bereavement support to family members following the death of a child with a life-limiting condition. This may be families you have already supported in this role, or you may begin to work with new families referred by the CCN team.
• Offer a holistic package of support that is tailored to the needs of the families you are working with. This may include working around their wellbeing, building resilience, and developing coping strategies.
• Employ a flexible approach to the support by offering a mixture of open-ended and time-limited interventions

Main Duties
- Manage a portfolio of grants from key Trusts, Foundations and statutory funders. Ensure that funders are aware of project performance, and that ClientEarth’s implementation is always in compliance with grant agreements.
- Develop and produce well researched and comprehensive proposals and reports to existing donors that meet funding priorities and requirements, within the submission deadline and oversee the coordination of Programme, Development and Finance teams as required for effective grant management.
- Work closely with the Global Head of Grants, Grants Management Lead and wider Development Leadership on budget forecasts and donor pipeline to ensure effective, joined-up cultivation of prospects and income generation.

Pensions

About the Role
We are looking for a Senior People & Compliance Advisor to join our team on an 18-month fixed-term contract. This role is vital to ensure our charity continues to provide a professional and legally compliant environment for our staff and volunteers. An exceptional opportunity to work with a passionate volunteer-led organisation and help shape the future of a remarkable industrial heritage site. Kempton Steam Museum, operated by Kempton Great Engines Trust, is home to the world's largest operational triple-expansion steam engine, which supplied water to much of London until 1980. Our project, Kempton: Clean Water for Life - reaching a wider audience, is made possible with The National Lottery Heritage Fund. Thanks to National Lottery players, we aim to transform Kempton Steam Museum’s engagement with visitors and the local community, while enhancing support for volunteers and care of collections. Three new part-time staff roles are being created to focus on volunteering, collections and managing the project.
The part-time Museum Operations and Project Manager will manage day-to-day operations and oversee delivery of the project initiatives. We will also be recruiting a Curatorial Officer (one day per week) and a Volunteer Coordinator (two days per week).

We have an exciting opportunity for a passionate Store Manager to join Barnardo's on a Full Time, Permanent Basis.
As a Store Manager you will manage the day to day running of our Kirkby Stephen Store, leading a team of colleagues to maximise store sales and profits. By doing so you will play a crucial role in raising the funds for the amazing services and support Barnardo's provides for children, young people, parents, and carers across the UK.

Working Pattern: As the store is open 7 days a week, the successful post holder will be required to on a rota basis which will include weekend, evening, and bank holiday working.
Parking is available behind the shop and there is also a free car park nearby to the store.
Some but not all key responsibilities are:
- Ensuring stock is generated over the door by members of the public and donors sign up to the Gift Aid scheme.
- Ensure that the high standard of service to customers that is expected by Barnardo's is maintained at all times.
- Implement promotions in the Store as directed by Head Office or your Area Business Manager.
- Maintain a high standard of presentation, both in the windows and the interior of the Store.
- Ensure there is adequate stock available on the shop floor, at all times, on all key lines
- Provide training, development, work reviews and appraisals for paid staff to enable them to perform their jobs efficiently and effectively.
- Create an organised and pleasant working environment for staff and volunteers.
- Actively recruit the correct/specified number volunteers to deliver the stores objectives and KPI's.
- Ensure all financial, cash handling and security procedures are adhered to as per the Barnardo's Manager's Manual and the relevant Retail procedures.
- Hold the shop keys, ensuring that the shop is secure whenever it is left unattended.
