The way people are accessing support is evolving and we need to ensure that we are developing support services that reflect the complex needs of a brain tumour diagnosis using a range of platforms, from a traditional phone line service to innovative, engaging and instant solutions.

Supporting a wide range of people, from those who are looking for general information about treatment or care, to those who need more detailed support from the point of diagnosis, you will be passionate about improving the lives of those affected by a brain tumour. You will be comfortable providing emotional and practical support and information across different channels; capable at breaking down complex, scientific information in an accessible and personalised way and committed to developing pioneering resources to support our community in smarter ways.

Key accountabilities:

· Provide specialist emotional and practical support and information to people affected by brain tumours, their friends, families and carers through a variety of solutions including phone, email, webchat, online, social media plus new evolving channels

· Provide high quality information which reflects the most up to date research, clinical information and treatments, in a way people can understand. Conducting the research yourself and adapting your communication to suit the person you are supporting is key

· Offer coaching guidance to empower individuals, helping them to achieve the appropriate next steps

· Work in conjunction with the Volunteer Development Manager to recruit, train and manage volunteers who assist in delivering support services

· Lead on aspects of cross team projects and develop new resources that meet our community’s needs, while collaborating with other teams and external partners

· Identify gaps in knowledge across the Support Team and identify possible training areas

· Develop information for our website and other resources, for example, writing initial drafts and reviewing information

· Plan and facilitate online and in person events for the brain tumour community, including online meet ups for young adults

· Day to day management of our online peer support
platforms, for example our Facebook groups for Young Adults affected by a brain tumour diagnosis

· Update and maintain accurate contact information on the CRM database, producing data reports as required to evidence the impact and reach of our support services

· Identify, manage and escalate safeguarding concerns in line with The Charity guidelines

· Review day to day tasks across the Support Team

Experience:

· Background experience in a supporter, help line, health care, science or psychology related role

· Experience of communicating complicated subject matter to lay audiences in a variety of ways

· Working in a support capacity, in particular with young people

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

· Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to adapt communication styles for difference audiences

· Proven listening and emotional support skills and a strong ability to empathise

· Knowledge of health, the human brain, cancer or brain tumours

· Ability to prioritise and work under pressure with good time management

· Able to work flexibly and creatively to respond to the emerging needs across the Support Team

· Self-reliant and competent IT user including digital platforms, data insights, internet, email, databases, spreadsheets, desktop publishing and MS Office

· A professional person with the social skills necessary to deal with a range of stakeholders with the self confidence and stature to support people affected by brain tumours

Assistive Technology Support Officer

Key Responsibilities:

• To visit services and complete installations, repair, maintenance, reviews and collection of Technology Enabled Care (TEC) equipment, with new and existing service users throughout Norwood’s services in North London, Redbridge and Berkshire.
• Troubleshoot problems with equipment installations and resolve these faults both remotely and in person.
• To be responsible for stock and undertake auditing of the stock and maintain current databases according to Company requirements including updating and maintaining asset registers
• Support the IT manager in providing a high level of service coordination to ensure that new projects are delivered effectively. 
• To take part in training sessions and attend meetings as required.
• To manage and maintain records, including central records, stock control and budgetary records.
• Train staff in the use of all systems available and provide ongoing support to ensure effective use of the systems in place.
• To support and promote digital inclusion, independence and empowerment for people using telecare or telehealth equipment

About the Role

Duties and key responsibilities: 

Content development:

• Work with the Information and Content Manager to research, write, edit and produce new information materials including print publications, web pages, videos, etc.
• Work in line with Sarcoma UK’s information production process, including:
  • Liaise with clinical experts and patient reviewers throughout the content development process
  • Maintain formal systems within the information production process in line with the PIF tick quality mark
• Ensure all new content meets clinical standards, brand guidelines, plain English principles, and accessibility requirements.

Content updates & maintenance:

Communications Officer Devolved Nations

We are looking for a Communications Officer to support our team in Scotland to respond to Scottish media enquiries, delivering campaigns to influence health policy and support our fundraising and engagement comms activity.

The Role

Reporting to the PR Manager, the role will help deliver key media campaigns that call for change to support people to rebuild their lives after stroke.

Key responsibilities will include:

· Working as a team to deliver a proactive, effective and 24/7 press office, building relationships with identified media and opinion formers, and ensure timely media responses based on organisational and reputational priorities.

· Working with the Campaigns and Public Affairs team to deliver influencing activity to key health board stakeholders, Stroke Association campaigners and the general public.

· Working with the Stories team to identify and deploy the real stories of the stroke survivors we work for.

About You

You will have experience of:

· Generating media coverage in Scotland, ideally in the charity sector.

· Using media to deliver calls to action to the public (eg donating, fundraising, campaigning) and/or decision makers (eg policy change).

· Planning, executing and monitoring media plans against identified briefs and overarching objectives.

· Working alongside Policy and Public Affairs colleagues.

· Creating, posting, and managing social media content.

About the role:

The role of Triage and Early Interventions Officer (TEIO) is a fast paced one which requires the post holder to answer incoming calls and make outgoing calls to victims of crime and those accessing the service in Cumbria.

As a TEIO, you will;

• answer incoming calls, speaking to those affected by crime & manage a caseload
• make outgoing calls, assess needs and risks and action plan with callers
• work on the case management system to allocate cases, provide administration on cases and assess/ensure data quality
• liaise with other agencies where required to find out more information, give information or make referrals or give signposting information
• work with the wider team to ensure an effective, trauma informed service is given to those affected by crime

You will be a confident, compassionate and empathic person who can work well under pressure. You will be speaking to people who may be upset, angry or in emotional difficulties and will need to be composed, empathic and be able to quickly assess situations.

You will be confident in using your IT skills to work on a case management system, access phone and online systems, email and Microsoft Office programmes.

As Research Involvement Lead, you’ll be responsible for leading a programme of patient and public involvement in research, a core component of our charity wide involvement strategy. 

This role will ensure that our research strategy and funding programme is shaped by the priorities and needs of people affected by blood cancer. You’ll review and refine our processes to ensure they are in line with sector best practice and that they meet the needs of our community of people affected by blood cancer. The Role 
 
As our Communications Officer, you will be responsible for planning and delivering a wide range of communications that contribute to increased brand awareness of the charity, demonstrate the charity’s expertise and impact, educate the public about cancer prevention, signs, symptoms and screening and support the generation of income for the charity. 

Specifically, you will: 

• Plan, research, create and distribute creative media content, including press releases, blog posts, case studies and videos, to support research, services, cancer insight, fundraising, events, retail, corporate partnerships and campaigns. 

• Proactively seek, identify and engage in media opportunities, such as attending events, organising photo opportunities and meeting face-to-face with case studies.

• Manage third-party suppliers such as photographers and film production agencies, obtaining quotes, providing clear briefings and ensuring work is delivered on time and within budget.

• Respond to press enquiries efficiently and to a high standard. Understand which media enquiries are appropriate for the charity’s brand and key messages and those which are not, so that the charity prioritises only those which are value-adding. 

• Organise TV, radio and press interview opportunities for the Chief Executive, Directors and Heads of. Prepare clear briefings for interviewees. 

• Demonstrate and convey professionalism at all times and represent the charity when communicating with the media, members of the public, volunteers and supporters to demonstrate the charity’s core values.

• Monitor and evaluate the charity’s media coverage and the digital impact of PR content, providing a monthly media clippings report. 

• Provide PR input to the charity’s Leadership Team, Board reports and performance dashboards. 

• Maintain continuous awareness of industry news and regularly update colleagues on key developments. 

 
About You 

To be considered for this role, you will need: 

• To be educated to a degree or equivalent level of education or have relevant experience in a similar role at a similar level. 

• Previous media experience, whether through journalism or a PR / in house media assistant role. 

• Experience in building relationships with colleagues and journalists and managing media opportunities such as interviews, broadcast opportunities and photocalls. 

• An ability to write compelling copy for multiple audiences, and media channels, often translating complicated information into a format that is easily understood by readers. 

• An agile media mind, able to spot the key storyline that will maximise the possibility of media coverage and attract the attention of the media. 

• An evaluative mindset, supporting continual improvement by analysing coverage and associated data from media activity. 

• An ability to keep a calm head when faced with a reactive media situation in a manner that best protects the reputation of the charity 

• A thoughtful and empathetic outlook, able to engage with people affected by cancer with sensitivity and respect.
