Whitley Fund for Nature
Whitley Fund for Nature (WFN) is a UK-registered charity (1081455) offering funding (Awards), training and media profile to inspiring leaders of wildlife conservation projects across the Global South. We support pragmatic, sustainable, and long-lasting work rooted in science and community involvement. The charity funds projects directly and we remain in regular contact with Award winners (grantees). WFN also raises awareness of the serious problems facing wildlife, landscapes, climate, and people, through promoting the work of winners. The opportunity

Background

Hackney Migrant Centre (HMC) delivers a free advice and support service for vulnerable migrants who have immigration, housing, welfare and health problems. We support visitors to secure their immigration status and move out of homelessness and destitution in the long-term, as well as assisting to address immediate issues, such as access to healthcare. HMC’s work is informed by a vision of a UK where no one is forced into destitution, exploitation or vulnerability as a result of their immigration status.

We have secured funding from Trust for London to employ an Immigration Advisor. The Immigration Advisor will provide immigration advice and assist visitors to make immigration and asylum applications. The postholder will work alongside external advisors to provide initial immigration advice on matters including human rights based applications, asylum, trafficking and family reunion. Advisors will work alongside Immigration Caseworkers and volunteers to coordinate and oversee the next steps for visitors after the initial immigration advice has been provided.

This role sits within the Immigration team, consisting of an Immigration Team Manager (part time), an Immigration Caseworker and a Long Residence Immigration Caseworker. HMC also benefits from two Housing & Destitution Caseworkers and the support of a Fundraising Officer and Volunteer & Participation Manager who are managed by the Operations Manager and CEO. HMC is supported by over 50 dedicated volunteers who work across the organisation. In addition, HMC works closely with a number of partner organisations to ensure visitors can access specialist legal advice and long-term support with immigration, housing, destitution, health and wellbeing. These include, Together with Migrant Children and Islington Law Centre.

We are keen to hear from applicants who have OISC Level 3 accreditation, the equivalent IAAS or a valid exemption. We will consider applicants with OISC Level 2 accreditation who can demonstrate experience of skills required below.

MAIN DUTIES

1. Advice and casework

- Provide high quality advice and representation for visitors with complex or urgent cases, specific vulnerabilities or those who would otherwise face particular difficulty in accessing representation from legal aid providers. For advisors with Level 3 OISC accreditation, this will be up to and including appeal-stage casework.

- Assist in the supervising of the work of the Immigration Caseworkers and volunteers.

- Provide training to HMC’s volunteers on immigration issues and maintain up to date resources.

- Provide immigration advice and support to the Housing staff team where available housing options and routes out of destitution are dependent on future immigration applications.

2. Collaborative working

- Work with HMC’s existing external advice partners to ensure effective, co-ordination of advocacy and casework support on a wide range of issues.

- Develop links and partnerships with other organisations to enable effective joint working.

- Provide information, statistics and case studies to external and internal stakeholders to support campaigning, advocacy and research relevant to HMC’s visitor group.

- Work closely with partner organisations to identify legal issues affecting HMC’s visitor group and, where appropriate, contribute to litigation and strategic policy work undertaken by external stakeholders to address these matters.

3. Compliance and Regulation

- Ensure HMC is meeting the standards required to maintain OISC accreditation.

- Keep up to date with legislation and guidance required to provide immigration advice at OISC L3 or OISC L2 dependent on accreditation level and meet the relevant OISC competence requirements, including maintaining a Personal Competence record of personal objectives regarding training and development.

- Ensure accurate record keeping using HMC’s case management system.

- Work with the Immigration Team Manager to ensure an effective monitoring system for the work and outcomes of the Immigration Team for funding and reporting purposes.

- Administrative tasks relevant to the post.

4. OTHER DUTIES

The post holder will be expected to:

- Implement sensitively HMC’s policies and procedures, especially with regards to confidentiality and equal opportunities

- Work collaboratively with other HMC staff, volunteers and professional advisors

- Participate actively in staff meetings, and other meetings as may reasonably be required

- Attend HMC Trustees’ meetings as required

- Support HMC's fundamental aim of providing a safe and caring environment for our visitors.

- Work in line with the ethos of HMC.

Dogs Trust Worldwide recently joined forces with World Veterinary Service and its Mission Rabies project in 2023 and together we are on a mission to improve the welfare of dogs around the world and protect them from maltreatment, cruelty and suffering. We have an exciting opportunity for a Trust and Foundations Officer to join our team and play a vital role identifying, researching and approaching trusts and foundations interested in funding projects which focus on global canine welfare.

About the role:

As Trusts and Foundations Officer (International) you will:

• Support the Trust and Foundations Team Manager (International) to deliver the trusts/foundations element of the fundraising strategy.
• Meet an agreed annual income target via trusts/foundations, which contributes toward the Trust Team’s target.
• Develop a pipeline of charitable trusts/foundations that could support a range of international projects, programmes and activities.
• Write high quality funding bids, in line with the requirements of potential funders, and upholding Dogs Trust’s brand and high standards

About you:

To succeed in this role, you will have a demonstrable track record of securing grants from charitable trusts/foundations, well-developed written and verbal communication skills and, above all, be a strong, positive team player, committed to the aims and values of Dogs Trust.

You will have exceptional attention to detail and a strong aptitude for writing creative narrative that will ensure our applications stand out when being assessed. Ideally, to be considered for a role focused on fundraising for our international projects you will have a successful track-record of trust fundraising for international projects or a strong interest in doing so.

In recent years violent crime has risen significantly. Homicides, assaults, robberies and offences involving weapons have all seen sustained growth. We have also seen large increases in violent crime involving children and young people. This is a tragedy. Every child captured in these numbers is an important member of our community and society has a duty to protect them.   

The Youth Endowment Fund (YEF) is a charity with a £200m endowment and a mission that matters. We exist to prevent children and young people becoming involved in violence. We do this by funding great initiatives, finding what works and working for change – scaling up and spreading the practices that make a difference.    

Our Change team does this by building excellent relationships and sharing evidence of what works with organisations and key individuals across the public, private, third sectors and local communities. We are looking for a dynamic, motivated, proactive and highly organised Change and Events Officer to join our Change team to help us fulfil our mission.    

 Key responsibilities  

Most fundamentally, your job is to work as a member of our Change team to make sure we’re excellent at running events and managing relationships with key stakeholders. You’ll make sure the team is incredibly organised and has the support it needs to work effectively. Key responsibilities:  

• Event Organising. Help to organise events, from small roundtables to large in person conferences. You will help make sure events run brilliantly, from booking venues to managing invites and organising materials.

We are seeking a Science and Policy Project Manager who will provide project management support across the science and policy departments for the core programmes and for cross cutting activities such as conferences and communications. You will report to the Director of Research, Policy and Innovation with the delivery of the science and policy strategies. You will also work closely with the Assistant Director of Research and Policy and there will also be interaction and communication with the Heads of Research Funding, Research Interpretation and Policy and Public Affairs as well as other colleagues in the network countries. 

You will be educated to MSc level in Public Health, Nutrition, Epidemiology or closely related field and have experience working in a research/public health setting and developing scientific/policy reports, summaries and presentations. You will have proven scientific project management skills with experience in monitoring progress, performance reporting and delivering projects on time and budget. You will have excellent interpersonal skills and proven ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team environment, and with stakeholders at all levels.

The primary purpose of this role is to design, develop, and implement a comprehensive continuum of care, supporting young people in our local community who have had a more challenging start in life. The Upper Room (TUR) works with a wide range of financially and socially disadvantaged groups including homeless people, people with long-term mental health conditions, asylum-seekers, refugees and ex-offenders – helping them to improve their lives and become productive members of society. Central to our offering is our UR4Meals service, providing free, home-cooked food to people who cannot afford to provide for themselves. We are also very proud of our UR4Driving programme, which supports people recently out of prison with free driving lessons in exchange for community volunteering. Gaining a driving licence greatly enhances their future employability prospects and helps break the cycle of re-offending. Additionally, our UR4Jobs project focusses on both client wellbeing and breaking down the many barriers to employment faced by disadvantaged people every day.

The role

This newly scoped role reports into the CEO and is critical to our ability to create the income we need to keep up with the ever-increasing demand on our services. Primarily, the role has two fundamental elements to it: firstly, working with both a specialist external consultant and the CEO in planning, submitting and reporting on the grants that make up a large proportion of our income; and secondly, the planning and managing of TUR’s traditional (and always fun) annual events. These include celebrity interviews and talks, garden parties and various community events such as the Green Days festival in Chiswick. There are additionally a number of community relationships that add great value to our work and efforts to raise funds which require regular contact. Occasionally, the role will also require presenting or talking to both funders and community groups as we share our magnificent story with them – and ultimately, convince them to support us.

About You

You live within – or know well – West/Central London; you probably need a job with some working flexibility and want to have genuine belief in the cause you’re promoting. You have a CV that demonstrates experience in a comparable role: this could be in another charity, CIC or other Non-Profit organisation. You are comfortable and confident with working autonomously, so you will need to be disciplined; you can articulate and ‘bring to life’ our story through your advanced written and oral communication skills, enabling us to always deliver highly compelling reasons to secure gain financial (and other) support. You don’t need to be a Microsoft Office expert, but you should be familiar with Word, Excel and PowerPoint. At Ambitious about Autism, we're currently looking for an Admissions Officer to join our Learner and Family Services team.

This postholder will undertake the admissions and pre-entry assessment processes in accordance with the SEN Code of Practice for education establishments within Ambitious about Autism (AaA) and Ambitious about Autism Schools Trust (AaAST).

You'll act as the first point of contact for admission enquiries for St John's College Brighton from prospective parents/carers, determining basic eligibility of prospective learners on initial enquiry and deciding on appropriate action required.

You'll process applications and monitor each individual admissions case, creating electronic and paper applicant records, maintaining confidentiality and accuracy at all times in line with GDPR. You'll be able to handle a varied workload with tight timescales and conduct yourself in a professional, yet sensitive manner.

• Experience of dealing with potentially emotional callers and handling sensitive telephone conversations in a polite and professional manner.
• An understanding of autism and the special needs education environment.
• Experience of prioritising a range of administrative tasks in an accurate, effective and timely manner.
• A willingness to learn how students are funded, including understanding of the Education and Skills Funding Agency.
