The Perse Development function typically raises around £250,000 each year. Our aim is to grow this amount significantly such that the majority of our charitable activities can be funded by charitable donations. Our School was founded in 1615 by Dr Stephen Perse as an educational charity, providing free places for 100 ‘poor scholars’. We now have an ambitious long-term vision to re-establish an endowment to fund bursaries and our other charitable aims in perpetuity.
Building on good foundations of successful fundraising and relationship management, an experienced and inspiring Head of Development will significantly increase levels of philanthropic income to the School.
Working closely with the Principal, governors and senior leaders, our new Head of Development will help deliver our fundraising strategy and make a positive difference to the lives of young people, both now and well into the future.

The Legacy Development Manager will take a leading role in delivering and expanding the charity's established legacy fundraising programme at a pivotal time of growth and transformation. With responsibility for developing and implementing the charity's legacy marketing strategy, the postholder will lead multi-channel campaigns, steward legacy enquirers and pledgers, and manage the charity's free will programmes. This role will also line-manage the Legacy Development Officer and coordinate closely with colleagues across fundraising, communications, and finance to ensure effective promotion and administration of legacy giving.
The successful candidate will bring specialist knowledge of legacy marketing processes and demonstrable experience of developing and growing legacy fundraising activity. You will have strong organisational and project management skills, excellent written and oral communication abilities, and confidence in building relationships with a wide range of stakeholders, from supporters to solicitors. Experience of soliciting and managing high-value gifts or legacies, budget management, and working within a charity or membership organisation will be essential.
This is a unique opportunity to shape and grow an ambitious legacy programme that will make a significant contribution to the charity's goal of raising £10 million annually and delivering transformational projects in eye health, including the landmark new Oriel centre opening in 2027.

Summary and key purpose
This new role will be primarily responsible for developing, marketing and managing our individual giving together with working across other fundraising disciplines. You will be a key member of our fundraising team, producing compelling fundraising communications, stewarding individual donors, including regular donors and gifts in memory. You will ensure that our donors receive excellent care.
Our Individual Giving programme will incorporate one-off donations, regular giving, digital fundraising, appeals and in-memory giving. You will do this, with the support of our recently appointed fundraising agency, who you will manage our relationship with week by week.
A critical element of the role will be how we market ourselves to potential new donors, taking them on an emotional engagement journey in order to solicit regular gifts.
Your expertise and skills:
To excel in this role, you will need prior experience of working in a fundraising setting, with an understanding of good stewardship practices. You should be a self-starter who thrives in a dynamic environment, working across teams and meeting multiple deadlines. Your excellent relationship management skills will enable you to effectively communicate with a diverse range of stakeholders and gather information on new projects. You must have a thorough understanding of individual giving, developing donor journeys and experience of work with agencies.
Key responsibilities:
- Day-to-day management of the regular giving programme, project managing appeals and overseeing the thanking process for individual donors.
- Create, plan, deliver and evaluate multi-channel, compliant, insight-led, supporter-centric campaigns to engage and drive action from new and existing supporters.

Responsibilities
- Lead SCF’s legacy fundraising programme, working closely with the Philanthropy Director and Senior Marketing Manager to create and deliver a legacy fundraising strategy.
- Lead on the creation and delivery of a stewardship framework to deliver an outstanding donor experience for SCF’s supporters and partners, including fundholders, corporate partners, charitable trusts, legacy pledgers and individual donors.
- Lead on ensuring the team are making best use of Salesforce to support effective portfolio management and reporting, and maintaining high-quality data.
- Lead on the delivery of our annual Fundholder Impact Reports, working collaboratively with the wider team including Finance and Programmes and embedding more efficient use of CRM and AI to support this.
- Work with our Senior Marketing Manager to create and deliver a high-quality stewardship events programme, including our Annual Celebration, donor visits to charities and research and insight events tailored to the interests of our supporters and partners.
- Work with the Philanthropy Director and Senior Philanthropy Manager to refresh and grow our mid-level giving programme, reviewing our existing donor base, embedding stronger donor journeys, and undertaking research and data analysis to explore new opportunities such as next-generation philanthropy.
- Lead on the delivery of SCF’s Surviving Winter Appeal and any ad-hoc emergency appeals.

About Breadwinners
Breadwinners is a multi-award-winning social enterprise and charity that supports young people seeking asylum and refugees to have their first work experience in the UK, selling organic baked goods. Since 2016, we have steadily grown, and we are looking for our first Senior Fundraising Manager to help us take the next step in our growth journey. Breadwinner's unique model provides work, training and personal mentors, so that young refugees can start and progress in their careers, using our platform as a stepping stone. We achieve this goal through three consecutive programmes, using our award-winning bread stalls in markets across London and Brighton and wholesale for socially-minded cafes and restaurants.
Over the last 7 years, we have made a significant impact in supporting over 744+ programme participants, with an impressive 93% reporting notable improvements in their overall well-being, 76% of our Breadwinners programme participants progress into work, further education or volunteering, and all this while minimising our Carbon Footprint by 20.5% through the sale of organic goods. You will be working directly with the Managing Director, forming a team with a part-time Fundraising Manager, in direct contact with our passionate Core team, Board of Trustees and volunteers to secure grant funding, and develop our corporate and major donors streams.
