ABOUT THIS OPPORTUNITY
We are looking for dedicated School Mental Health Practitioners to join the Harris Federation’s central mental health team and make a meaningful impact in secondary schools across London.
You will be part of a supportive, forward-thinking team led by our Lead Mental Health Practitioner, receiving regular clinical supervision and ongoing professional development and helping to shape the future of mental health support in education.
In this full-time role, you will deliver evidence-based, low-intensity mental health interventions to students aged 11–18 across up to three Harris secondary academies. You will work directly with students through 1:1 sessions, group work and whole-school wellbeing initiatives, helping to shape a culture of mental health awareness and support.
You will be based in schools for four days per week, primarily in South, South East and South West London, and occasionally in North London. Travel between schools is required.

MAIN AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY
Your responsibilities will include:
- Providing tailored 1:1 mental health and wellbeing support to students and their families
- Facilitating small group interventions and psychoeducational sessions
- Running drop-in sessions during break and lunch times for students experiencing mild to moderate distress
- Collaborating with school staff to promote mental health awareness and training
- Contributing to school-wide risk assessments and wellbeing strategies
- Maintaining accurate records and report on outcomes using national standards
- Sharing best practices and innovations across our network of schools

What you’ll do
As a Wellbeing Practitioner you will work in partnership with schools, children and families to assess and respond to the psychological needs of children experiencing social, emotional, mental health or behavioural difficulties through undertaking assessments and providing interventions. You will also: contribute to workshops, support to school staff in the identification of mental health needs of children and accessing appropriate resources; and actively contribute to outcome monitoring and service improvement. You will build relationships with peer/senior members of staff, service users, partners, other services, schools, commissioners, as well as other external agencies with families being the main point of contact. You will also deliver consultation, training, and workshop to non-mental health staff, such as teachers and social workers with other clinicians in the service.
The services offer brief evidence-based individual and group interventions to address moderate wellbeing needs largely using CBT-based treatment, trauma informed and Mentalization approaches. Work is also conducted jointly with existing professionals where young people present with more complex needs to strengthen the skills and competencies in the multi-agency network. The work takes place on an outreach basis in schools, family homes and other community venues (in Harrow) as well as being conducted virtually.
What you’ll bring
You will have a qualification in psychology or other discipline related to mental health to deliver evidence-based interventions for children and young people. This role is suitable for you if have experience of working directly in schools and local communities, and are passionate about delivering high quality evidence-based intervention on a time-limited basis.
Essential skills and experience:
- Experience of working therapeutically: implementing interventions and using routine outcome measures in therapy with children and young people in community or school settings, including Looked After Children and young people.
- Experience of working cross-culturally: with thoughtful consideration of cultural issues in relation to clinical practice.
- Experience of maintaining appropriate records: with strong awareness of confidentiality, current childcare and safeguarding legislation, policy, and practice.
- Ability to form good working relationships: in a multi-disciplinary setting and work independently where necessary.
- Commitment to engage with supervision: including clinical supervision and line management supervision.
Key details
Hours: Full-time (35 hours per week), Monday to Friday, 09:00-17:00.
Salary: £31,200 per annum FTE, plus 6% contributory pension scheme.
Location: Hybrid working (a mixture of onsite and home/remote working). Working onsite for at least 70% of their working hours at Harrow Community sites (e.g. Cedars Children’s Centre, 127 Whittlesea Road, Harrow HA3 6ND) and occasionally at our London site (4-8 Rodney Street, London N1 9JH).

Trainee Children’s Wellbeing Practitioners (CWPs) will be expected to integrate into YMCA East Surrey’s Emotional Wellbeing and Mental Health (EWMH) team and to support all early intervention work. You will assess and deliver (under supervision), outcome focused, evidence-based interventions to children and young people experiencing mild to moderate mental health difficulties.
This Trainee Children's Wellbeing Practitioner role includes completion of the Child Wellbeing Practice Postgraduate or Graduate level Diploma run by the University of
Sussex, which follows the nationally agreed curriculum to qualify as a Children's Wellbeing Practitioner.
The post holder must have experience of working with children, young people and families with multiple and/or complex needs and hold a minimum qualification equivalent to a NVQ Level 3 in a relevant field. In addition, the successful candidate must hold a valid UK driving licence and have access to a vehicle.
For the Level 6 (Graduate Diploma) the minimum level would be 3 x A-levels with grades of AAB - BBB (BBC if meet the criteria for contextual offer), or an equivalent qualification such as NVQ level 3 or above, or equivalent experience (and proven ability to work at graduate level). · Attend and fulfil all the requirements of the training element of the post including practical, academic and practice-based assessments.
· As well as attendance at the University for training, fulfil private study requirements to enhance learning and prepare assignments for examination - recommendation is 150 hours of study for each of the 8 modules, which includes the teaching days.
· Assess and integrate issues relating to transitions, education and training/employment into the overall therapeutic process.

Role Purpose
RISE strives for a world where people can lead safe, purposeful lives as a result of better relationships within families and communities; where harmful behaviour is marginalised and fewer people, are victims of crime. In order to create safe communities, RISE empowers people to break their cycle of harmful behaviour. RISE’s programmes challenge attitudes and facilitate long-lasting behaviour change and are driven by the belief that people, including children and young people, can make better decisions, given the right support. RISE are specialists in designing and delivering evidence-based, transformative behaviour change courses within the criminal justice system and wider community.
The Advanced Practitioner will manage a caseload of 70% which will involve direct work with service users. The post holder is also required to coach, mentor and develop staff and deliver regular workshops to enhance their skills and expertise in specific area. Additionally, there is a requirement to exercise enhanced responsibilities in relation to conducting specialist risk assessments and work with service users and families. Such responsibilities will include the ability to demonstrate enhanced levels of practice, competence/skills in areas such as direct practice with service users, children and families, multi-agency working, knowledge of organisational systems and processes and the wider social policy context.

Key Responsibilities
Service Delivery – 70% of workload
- Engage in direct practice with service users, children and families including, where appropriate, co-working with other practitioners (to develop their skills and expertise).
- Use initiative to make decisions to ensure continuity of service delivery.
- Promote and represent RISE Mutual CIC services as required at relevant events.

Product Design and Development
- Partake in design and development of new interventions, including writing an associated manual and training programme.

- Be responsible for testing/piloting and familiarisation of new intervention and overseeing delivery of facilitators assigned to the contract.

Centre 33’s Wellbeing team offer a diverse support offer to (primarily) young people aged 13-25 and founded in the principles of low intensity CBT (Guided Self Help). Working closely alongside other Centre 33 services, the team are responsible for the delivery of interventions via the Guided Self Help pathway, to young people who have self-referred or consented to a parent/professional referral to address early emerging mental health difficulties such as low mood and anxiety. In addition, the team apply creative approaches to create, adapt and share evidenced based GSH materials that are shared via one off sessions, workshops, training and events. The team design psychoeducational and wellbeing strategy- based resources for use both internally (social media campaigns and website) and externally (eg. schools). The Wellbeing team consists of a blend of Senior CWP, Qualified CWPs and Trainee CWPs.

Role purpose

In order to create safe communities, RISE empowers people to break their cycle of harmful behaviour. RISE’s programmes challenge attitudes and facilitate long-lasting behaviour change and are driven by the belief that people , including children and young people, can make better decisions, given the right support. RISE are specialists in designing and delivering evidence-based, transformative behaviour change courses within the criminal justice system and wider community.
With the main objectives of reducing re-offending and helping to protect the public, the RISE practitioner will deliver a range of interventions (individual and group), that RISE may design, commission or be commissioned to deliver in the future, both in the community and in custody.
The main purpose of this role is to support and assist Facilitators, Advanced Practitioner, Responsible Officers and Service managers in the administration of the Domestic Abuse contracts delivery by co-ordinating project resources such as people and equipment. The post holder will also be responsible for maintaining information systems linked to specific DA contracts.
Key duties and accountabilities
- To undertake a range of administrative duties, including log on cases, tracking and issuing documents to clients.
