The role
We’re seeking an Events and Project Officer to join our ambitious Support, Research, and Influencing team.
This is a brand-new role that will play a vital role in our team to ensure health professionals across the UK have a better awareness and understanding of pancreatic cancer and the complex supportive care needs of those affected. You can be proud to know that you’re playing a part in these services which will ultimately improve the standard of support and care received by people affected by pancreatic cancer from their healthcare team.
In this role, you will:
- Co-ordinate a selection of our highly-rated virtual educational events for health professionals.
- Support with the development and creation of new online courses and reviews of existing online courses for health professionals.
- Co-ordinate the delivery of our patient-facing webinars, working in collaboration with the support services team and nurses.
- Support with the co-ordination of our annual in-person Research Forum; parliamentary events and health improvement events; and engagement events with stakeholders in Scotland, Northern Ireland, and Wales.
About You
- You will have experience in coordinating successful events, in particular webinars.
- You will have excellent organisational and time management skills with a keen eye for detail and accuracy.
- You will be passionate about working for the charity and transforming the future for people affected by pancreatic cancer.
- You will be able to work across teams and departments in a collaborative manner and be able to effectively manage and prioritise a busy and varied workload.

Job summary
The Royal Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene (RSTMH) is a Society of over 1,700 members from 100 countries, who work in, or are interested in tropical medicine and global health.
RSTMH organises and participates in events as a crucial way of showcasing, discussing, and debating key areas of tropical medicine and global health research and practice. Our range of events are wide. We deliver conferences and webinars, social events, research meetings for early career professionals, and high-profile debates and discussions. They happen across the UK and around the world, both online and in person. Our events add to the impact of our work in tropical medicine and global health, but also raise funds to allow us to continue our work as a charity.
The Meetings and Events Manager would lead on the delivery of the RSTMH meeting and events strategy. The role requires a self-starter who is excited by the prospect of working on such a broad range of meetings and events. The candidate needs to have excellent communication and relationship building skills, and to be organised, flexible with a great attention to detail. They should be comfortable liaising with venues for meetings space, developing budgets for events, managing logistical aspects of the events programme and setting up new events online and in person.
Main responsibilities
- Overall responsibility for the meetings and events programme meeting its financial and other goals and KPIs under the existing strategy
- Overall responsibility for the delivery of the events with a focus on expanding global reach, supporting careers, and improving the financial position
- Manage events from conception to completion - delivering events to the highest standard to meet their objectives of success – quality and cost effectiveness
- Attend the Meetings and Events Committee, optimising meetings including helping set the agendas, leading discussions, writing minutes, liaising with the Chair
- Assist to identify, appoint, and manage Scientific Chairs, Committees, and Sub Committees to secure event speakers, secure attendees and sponsors.

About the Finance team
The role will provide support to the Financial Controller in effective stewardship and oversight of all finance functions, with responsibility for ensuring accurate budget holder reporting, project reporting and aid in the production of management accounts.
Working with the Financial Controller and Finance Assistant, this role is essential to the reporting of financial information across the Charity. The Assistant Management Accountant will also support in the delivery of new projects and systems advancements.
About the role
The Assistant Management Accountant is a critical role within the organisation and is being recruited at an exciting time as Kidney Care UK seeks to realise its growth ambitions within its strategy.
The role will provide support to the Financial Controller in effective stewardship and oversight of all finance functions, with responsibility for ensuring accurate budget holder reporting, project reporting and aid in the production of management accounts. This role is essential to the reporting of financial information across the Charity. The Assistant Management Accountant will also support in the delivery of new projects and systems advancements.
In addition the Assistant Management Accountant will help to prepare the Charity’s quarterly VAT returns, ensuring that all transactions have the correct VAT coding. The role will be pivotal in the monthly close down process and ongoing accuracy of the transactions held on the accounting system.
The successful candidate will have excellent communication skills and will be highly organised. Core tasks and responsibilities
- Monthly accounting, budgeting, reporting and analysis:
- Produce monthly budget vs actual variance reports for budget holders.
- Prepare monthly expenditure reports for the patient grants team, reconciling the finance system to the database.
- Prepare and post the weekly income imports from information provided by Fundraising.
- Undertake regular monthly income reconciliations with the Fundraising Team, agreeing the finance system to the database.
- Aid in the month-end closing procedures and prepare the monthly reconciliations required: bank reconciliation, corporate card reconciliations, project reconciliations.

The Upper Room (TUR) works with a wide range of financially and socially disadvantaged groups including homeless people, people with long-term mental health conditions, asylum-seekers, refugees and ex-offenders – helping them to improve their lives and become productive members of society. Central to our offering is our UR4Meals service, providing free, home-cooked food to people who cannot afford to provide for themselves. The role
This newly scoped role reports into the CEO and is critical to our ability to create the income we need to keep up with the ever-increasing demand on our services. Primarily, the role has two fundamental elements to it: firstly, working with both a specialist external consultant and the CEO in planning, submitting and reporting on the grants that make up a large proportion of our income; and secondly, the planning and managing of TUR’s traditional (and always fun) annual events. These include celebrity interviews and talks, garden parties and various community events such as the Green Days festival in Chiswick. There are additionally a number of community relationships that add great value to our work and efforts to raise funds which require regular contact. Main purpose and scope of Role
This role will play key to engaging with and supporting PTAs across the region, as well as a variety of stakeholders such as schools, parent groups, local authorities, potential sponsors or supporters and other organisations as our suite of programmes grows. This role initially focuses on the following, but is subject to change as programmes are launched or evolved:
PTA Programme
- Growing our network of PTAs.
- Supporting PTAs through leadership transition to minimise PTAs closing unnecessarily.
- Organising gatherings of PTAs to enhance the PTA community.
- Providing training and awareness sessions for PTAs.
- Providing community support to PTAs during peak activity periods online or by phone.
- Helping schools establish PTAs and supporting them during their first year through our new PTA Launchpad programme.
- Hosting and co-ordinating virtual webinars/meetings to demonstrate the value of PTA membership and the support available.
Parent Programme
- Raising awareness of Parentkind’s growing programme of support for parents, directly or indirectly through schools or other partners.
- Building relationships with parent groups to support engagement with our growing suite of parent support opportunities.
- Organising events for parents as part of our Parent Programme.
- Building relationships with regional stakeholders to support Parent Programme activities.
Other Programmes/Services
- Encouraging uptake or (when charged) sales of our broad and growing suite of programmes and services.
- Identifying and engaging with local and regional partners for our range of programmes.
- Feeding into programme design.
Wider Stakeholder Engagement:
- Attending appropriate conferences and educational meetings across the region.
- Developing relationships with key local authorities and individuals so they advocate our services and the benefits of our programmes
- Developing relationships with MATs so that they can advocate Parentkind and the benefits of its programmes.
- Identify any opportunities for external funding to from LA’s, Companies, or other funders with the support of our fundraising team.
Organisational Effectiveness:
- Create and implement operational annual plans and schedules to support our regional targets, ensuring that time specific milestones for their delivery are met.
- Regularly report on the health of our campaigns within your region, through identified KPIs and organisational targets.
- Ensure all knowledge and information is recorded, processed and maintained according to good administration practice.
General
- To keep abreast of relevant educational policy and legislation affecting our key audiences.
- To be flexible within the broad remit of the post.
- To undertake other duties as reasonably requested by the CEO and the Executive Leadership Team.
- To be self-servicing.
- To attend and participate in our performance, development, and training programmes.
- To abide by organisational policies, codes of conduct and practices.
- To be responsible for the health, safety, welfare of self, and other colleagues.
- Participating in and, as necessary, assisting with our national events and conferences.
- Supporting activities in other regions where a regional colleague is unappointed or unavailable.
