As part of our fund management programmes, THET will be conducting a variety of international visits and events in the next 11 months. We require a consultant to lead the administration of the logistics involved in this work.

Assignment overview and scheduling

The consultant will provide logistical support across three main categories:

1. Scoping assessments in four sub-Saharan African countries, namely Ethiopia, Malawi, Somaliland and Zimbabwe
   1. A scoping assessment is a week-long series of in-person meetings with Ministry of Health and other relevant government sector representatives, subnational health agencies and government authorities, regulatory bodies, training institutions, FCDO, UK DHSC, WHO local offices.
   2. Each visit will likely involve up to 3 staff travelling from the UK to the country
   3. The consultant will be responsible for organising their travel rather than the scoping assessment meetings.
2. Delegation visit from Zimbabwe to UK
   1. A week-long visit of up to 7 Ministry of Health representatives and other national stakeholders to the UK
   2. The consultant will be responsible for organising their travel and some of the meetings while in-country.
3. Programme launch events in Ethiopia, Malawi, Somaliland and Zimbabwe
   1. A one-day long event in each country, with between 40-80 attendees
   2. Each event will likely see 2-3 staff travelling from the UK to the country. The consultant will be required to organise their travel and venue booking.

Knowledge, Skills and Expertise required

To successfully undertake this assignment, the Consultant should meet the following minimum requirements:

• International travel logistics experience, ideally in sub-Saharan Africa
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
• Budget preparation and tracking
• Proven organisational and administrative skills, with sound IT skills (Word and Excel)
• Flexibility and adaptability working within a small organisation
• Ability to work independently and take the initiative

The contract is for 40 days over eleven months. The Consultant will receive a daily rate of £180, which totals to £7,200 for the whole programme. The consultant will invoice THET on a monthly basis. Please note that this is non-negotiable and will cover all expenses apart from project-related travel and communication expenses. Where reasonable travel and communications expenses are incurred, the Consultant will be remunerated following submission of timely and accurate receipts.

Receipts must be kept, where possible, in order to claim for support costs. Consultants will not be expected to use their own funds to cover project-related costs.

About the Role

The Insight Manager is responsible for transforming a wide range of data and information into insights and learning. This insight is used internally to continuously improve casework and is shared externally, with a variety of stakeholders.

You will use your knowledge to explain not just what the data tells us, but to present hypotheses about why it is what it is and what may happen next. Your role will include providing oral briefings to colleagues, but most of your work requires written communication.

We currently have an opportunity for an experienced Ecologist to join our Environment and Climate action team within the S&I Directorate and is responsible for delivering the Trust’s strategy and policy on all environment and climate related sustainability issues, including environmental compliance as a minimum, improvement of our protected sites and achieving a net gain in biodiversity across our canal network.

The Ecologist will be responsible for providing professional technical input into the Trust’s strategic activities around nature recovery. This includes collecting and analysing information and data to support a long-term action plan to move more of our protected sites towards favourable condition and support projects that increase biodiversity and the abundance of protected species across the network.

The Canal & River Trust is in an ideal position, as a large landowner with blue and green corridors connecting habitats across the landscape, to carry out environmental enhancements using our local volunteer workforce to ensure that we improve habitats and support biodiversity. Planting the right trees in the right places, reconnecting old hedgerows and restoring or creating wildflower meadows and linear species-rich grasslands to provide a safe haven for wildlife and a destination for people to retreat to from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Reconnecting people with the nature on their doorstep and offering them opportunities to get involved in looking after ‘their patch’ through guided walks and talks.

Our aim is to support the work of the Trust as a whole, while conserving and enhancing the environment of the inland waterway network. Location

The role will be based working from home, with the expectation to attend main regional hubs either at Milton Keynes, Birmingham, or Little Venice (Paddington), for collaborative working. This is a national role, requiring collaboration with teams in all six of the Trust’s regions. ROLDA (Romanian League in Defence of Animals) is a small animal welfare charity working to improve the lives of dogs, cats, and other animals in Romania and internationally. Since its establishment in 2006, ROLDA has become a beacon of hope for the millions of vulnerable stray animals in Romania – one of Europe's economically poorest nations. Our mission is to manage the homeless animal population, estimated to be millions, through six key focuses: rescue, rehabilitation, sheltering, sterilisation, and education. Within our shelters, inspired by British kennel design and maintained to meet EU animal welfare standards, we can house up to 700 stray dogs at a time. Here, they receive complete veterinary care, rehabilitation, and preparation for rehoming. Since 2006, we have helped over 48,000 animals (primarily dogs and cats) and built two shelters for dogs and one for disabled and senior cats. We also distribute support, primarily through small grants, to six other charities in Romania and over 40 shelters in Ukraine. We rehome mainly in Switzerland, Sweden, and the UK. In addition to our efforts in rescuing and rehoming animals, ROLDA tackles the root cause of Romania's homeless animals through comprehensive neutering programmes and educational initiatives. Since 2006, we have successfully neutered nearly 20,000 cats and dogs, significantly impacting Romania's severe overpopulation of animals.

• Develop relationships with key stakeholders in the NHS, health care and social care professionals to inspire and enable them to feel engaged and supported to co-create and prescribe a Nature Prescription, and to connect RSPB with the health sector to help create doors for future work.
• Engage with local healthcare professionals and community groups to co-design Nature Prescriptions materials with local people, community groups and healthcare professionals so that they reach a large diversity of people, and those that need and can benefit the most.
• Develop the project plan and ensure that the right governance structure for project management is in place and RSPB internal project management practices are followed, so that the project stays on track, comes in on budget and risks are identified, escalated, and managed within tolerances.
• Work with local environmental networks to build a picture of nature-based activities available and identify opportunities for partnership working.
• Lead on developing ways to evaluate and measure the impact of the project, including engaging with those prescribing and local communities to gather stories and case studies that demonstrate the benefits to wellbeing and connectedness to nature.
• Build internal relationships with RSPB employees and volunteers working with nature prescribing and nature and wellbeing across the UK.
• Develop a strategy and plan for Nature and Wellbeing work legacy aiming to learn from the work done in Scotland and England and from the communities and health care professionals in Cardiff and surrounds to support development of future work in Cardiff and beyond.

Essential skills, knowledge and experience:

As Veterinary Behaviourist you’ll:

• Work with the Community Clinical Animal Behaviour and post-adoption support teams in devising the optimal behaviour rehabilitation strategy for dogs in their care while liaising with external veterinary practices as required to support the work of clinical teams.
• Support and advise staff across Dogs Trust on matters relating to psychoactive medication and links between disease, physiology and behavioural signs, under the direction of the Head of Clinical Behaviour Services.
• Provide behaviour consultations to owned dogs with behaviour problems especially those with a medical component that requires specialist input.
• Assist with staff training through workshops, clinical case reviews, mentorship and conferences.

About you:

With a good knowledge of dog behaviour, training and welfare you will have a veterinary qualification with postgraduate experience as a veterinary surgeon. The role of the Clinical Behaviour Services team is to provide clinical behaviour services for members of the public including adopters of Dogs Trust dogs and in association with Dog School.

We’re a small charity that brings communities together to create cleaner, connected and safer urban and rural neighbourhoods by tackling the litter problems where they live. Litter-picking brings people closer together, enables neighbours to meet one another other and helps create a greater sense of pride and community in local areas.

Historically, we have delivered litter-picking focussed community engagement projects in London and Birmingham. Our current focus is developing partnerships with community organisations across England to expand our reach and increase impact.

Background

Chapter One is a dynamic, growing charity with a vision of a world in which all children have the literacy skills needed to thrive. Our mission is to close the reading gap by providing children with one-to-one support at the time they need it most. We work in eleven areas/regions of the UK and will support 3250 children in 2024-25.

Our unique Online Reading Volunteer programme pairs struggling five to seven-year old (KS1) readers with reading support volunteers who are working professionals. The volunteer ask is very focused: readers commit 30 minutes a week to read with a child using a bespoke digital platform for an entire academic year. The results are transformative, boosting children's reading confidence and ability.

From a school perspective, online reading volunteers provide direct, meaningful literacy support for up to 10 pupils per class. The programme is particularly suitable for communities where it might be challenging to find parents and other volunteers who can commit to physically visiting schools to boost reading.

Job Summary

Chapter One is seeking a London Programme Manager from September 2024 who is an excellent communicator and is able both to motivate and support schools and teachers to implement our online reading volunteers programme, and also to ensure that the programme’s impact and benefit to disadvantaged communities is maximised throughout the academic year.

The post is ideal for someone looking for part-time, flexible, term-time only work from a home base and who is able to travel frequently around London. Chapter One currently works in the following London boroughs: Barnet, Camden, Haringey, Islington, Lambeth, Newham, Tower Hamlets, Southwark. The postholder will be joining a team of established Programme Managers (also part-time) who work in different parts of the UK and will need to have some flexibility to work additional hours during busy autumn months, and conversely to work fewer hours during quieter periods of the year.

Key Responsibilities:

• Effectively explain Chapter One’s online reading volunteer programme and its benefits to school leaders and teachers

• Install, setup and maintain Chapter One equipment in participating classrooms

• Fully understand the operation of the Chapter One platform and database and communicate this to others

• Organise and conduct initial teacher training and follow-up

• Ensure a smooth initial launch of Chapter One’s programme in every classroom

• Liaise with colleagues performing technical and volunteer support roles

• Through regular visits to/contact with schools, provide on-going embedded professional learning and support to teachers throughout the year as needed

• Proactively monitor classroom adherence/fidelity to the Chapter One model, including systematic review of data reports and volunteer feedback, taking proactive action to resolve problems that arise

• Analyse and manipulate data (largely in Google sheets) to produce reports and identify trends

• Create monthly data summaries for all participating classrooms

• Lead annual review meetings for senior leadership at participating schools
