Elders Voice is a local charity serving older people in Brent. We are recruiting a CEO to lead our talented and experienced staff team through a period of change to ensure our financial security.

Elders Voice is an established and trusted charity in the heart of Kensal Green. We believe ageing should be a wonderful and worthwhile journey, but for that to happen older people need to feel safe and happy in their homes and have access to affordable activities in an environment that embraces their differences. 

The pillars of our work are a well-respected handyperson service and a day centre offering a range of activities focusing on health and well-being, socialising, art, gardening and intergenerational work with and for older people.

The CEO will need to embrace our aims and lead the EV team to provide services based on holistic, long-term, high-quality relationships and to ensure that older people shape development of our services. In this difficult economic environment, we need to explore new funding opportunities and transition away from a reliance on local authority funding.

You will report directly to the Chair of the Board of Trustees and be supported by the board and a small, dedicated staff team.

• To lead the staff team to deliver excellent services for older people in Brent.
• To ensure the financial stability of Elders Voice.
• To work with the board of trustees to develop and deliver the strategic plan.
• To act as an ambassador for Elders Voice and the older people we represent.

Role Purpose

The purpose of the Fundraiser role is primarily to raise funds from UK trusts, foundations and statutory funders and to identify, generate, grow and maintain this vital income stream. Some engagement to support other strands of fundraising will be required.

​Context

The post-holder will work to the Chief Financial Officer and closely with the Chief Operating Officer and other managers of Cathedral teams. Their role will involve research and information gathering on potential donors and funding opportunities, a creative and broad approach to application planning and writing, good written and interpersonal skills and attention to detail in managing application and post-grant reporting processes. It requires the post holder to take a wide interest in all aspects of Cathedral life in order to deliver effective funding support to the work of colleagues. 

Overview

Southwark Cathedral has been a place of Christian worship for over 1400 years. Now it stands on the vibrant and exciting regenerated south bank of the Thames surrounded by cultural venues such as Tate Modern, Shakespeare’s Globe and Borough Market, the offices of major companies as well as schools and diverse residential communities. Job Description

Job Title: Fundraiser (Grants and Trusts)

Reports to: Chief Financial Officer (CFO)

Salary: £38,000-£40,000 per annum

Hours of work: 35 hours per week (excluding lunch breaks). Some flexibility required. Requests to work from home 1 day per week will be considered.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

Research and Identification of Funders

• Develop and maintain a comprehensive understanding of our research projects and research funding plans, including in response to requests from Heads of Department and Senior Management Team;
• Research, identify and prioritise potential grants, personal & institutional trusts and statutory funders and funding opportunities, including keeping up to date with new fundraising opportunities in the faith and heritage sectors and in London;
• Undertake research on funders and grant making bodies to assess their potential for funding opportunities;
• Gather information and budgetary information from cathedral colleagues as required by potential funders;
• Develop and write high quality, compelling fundraising proposals and applications which communicate Southwark Cathedral’s funding needs clearly and concisely;
• Work with the Marketing & Communications Manager to develop a compelling case for support documents and other donor materials to attract support for our research projects;
• Develop and maintain a pipeline of applications to trusts & foundations.

Fundraising

• Secure funding from UK trusts, foundations and statutory funding bodies to meet Budgetary targets and support proposed future projects at the Cathedral;
• Support the implementation of a trusts and foundations programme, with a view to increasing funding for flagship projects alongside core unrestricted funding;
• Assist with the organisation of fundraising events as required;
• Ensure approaches to trusts and other donors are streamlined and targeted.

Contact and Liaison

• Manage the Cathedral’s donor records including gift aid declarations, personal information and legacy pledges and other non-financial information provided by donors - adhering to data protection best practice at all times;
• Liaise with the Marketing & Communications Manager to analyse the existing donor communications and suggest improved methods of engagement;
• Liaise with the Marketing & Communications Manager to arrange for the creation and maintenance of pages on the Cathedral website that highlight the fundraising activity and communicate successes achieved;
• Act as the primary point of contact for all existing and potential trust and grants funders, directing enquiries as appropriate;
• Develop a network of strong relationships with existing and prospective grant, trust and statutory funders;
• Organise meetings and events for prospective supporters and provide briefings for colleagues.

Information Management, Monitoring and Evaluation

• Maintain the Cathedral’s fundraising database, ensuring all records are updated and maintained correctly in accordance with the Cathedral’s data protection policy;
• Manage the reporting, recording and administration progress of existing grants, advising relevant members of the team well in advance of reporting deadlines;
• Work with others to develop and implement effective evaluation, monitoring and reporting processes for funders, and ensure reporting requirements are fulfilled and activities remain outcome and impact focused;
• Manage and maintain records and monitor progress of applications and relationships, including working to agreed KPIs;
• Prepare regular progress reports on fundraising and activities for SMT and the Chapter as required;
• Use the Cathedral’s fundraising database to analyse the success rates to support fundraising strategy and individual projects;
• Work with the Finance team to ensure that all funding is quickly and correctly processed and acknowledged and that financial reports are available in the appropriate format;
• Work with the Governance & Committees Manager and Finance Team to support reporting requirements and compliance with the relevant legislation and codes of conduct;
• Work with the COO and Marketing & Communications Manager to create appropriate evaluation and legacy documentation.

Other

• Manage the relevant administration that accompanies this role, including booking meetings and taking minutes as required;
• Play an active role as a member of the Cathedral team, supporting each other as required;
• Be an ambassador for the Cathedral and assist the Fundraising Advisory Panel in developing positive relationships with the Cathedral’s key stakeholders.

Person Specification

Knowledge/Experience

• You will have experience of writing fundraising bids and completing engaging applications;
• You will have knowledge and experience of heritage, community or religious grant-funding sources and how to access them;
• You will have experience of handling applications and administrative procedures for grants;
• You will be proficient in project finances, and budgeting, with skills in persuasion, advocacy, problem-solving, and decision-making;
• Knowledge of best practice in the trusts sector is important;  
• You will have strong interpersonal, communication, and influencing skills;
• Experience in a small or medium-sized charitable organisation;
• Membership of the Chartered Institute of Fundraising is desirable.

Terms and Conditions

Working Hours

The working hours shall be 35 hours per week (exclusive of meal breaks). Some out of hours working will be required to support meetings and events and this will be notified in advance. Time off in lieu will be awarded in line with Southwark Cathedral’s policy.

Annual Leave

25 days per annum as well as statutory bank holidays, with an additional 5 days (pro-rata) after 10 years service. 

Probation

The appointment is subject to the satisfactory completion of a six-month probationary period.

Season Ticket Loan

Once the probationary period has been completed satisfactorily, the person appointed will be eligible to take out a season ticket loan.

Pension

The person appointed will be eligible to join a defined contributions pension scheme managed by the Church Workers Pension Fund. The Cathedral will contribute half of the annual premium of 10% of salary.

Working Expenses

Reasonable out of pocket expenses will be reimbursed.

About the Role

As Senior Stewardship and Events Manager, you will be leading on the creation of ambitious funding propositions which will be attractive to high value donors and funders, working with key stakeholders from across the organisation to fully understand our existing services and transformational projects; translating complex information into compelling cases for support to be used by our High Value Partnerships team in funding applications, pitches and proposals. You will work closely with Recovery Services, Data and Insights and Finance teams to ensure all relevant information is gathered and reporting and evaluation processes are in place.

Working with your team and the wider High Value Partnerships team you will develop a special events programme to support engagement and fundraising, as well as leading on the development of developing engaging and relevant donor and prospect communications. You will work alongside the High Value Events Officer and other High Value Partnerships Senior Managers to conceptualise, plan and deliver a range of event types, offering a variety of activities to engage and inspire high value supporters, and ensure they are connected to, and inspired by, the work of Help for Heroes.

You will support our relationship management teams across High Value Partnerships to embed and further develop the high value stewardship strategy to ensure those who support Help for Heroes at the highest levels enjoy an exceptional supporter experience.

We are seeking a highly experienced Trusts and Foundations fundraising consultant to spearhead the Trusts programme at Dreams Come True. As an excellent communicator, influencer, and relationship builder, you will have a proven track record of successful fundraising in this area: ideally securing between 6 and 7-figure gifts.
The successful individual must clearly understand what is meant by a strong brand / charity proposition and have clear evidence of creating and delivering compelling cases for support, with strong examples of this resulting in successful grants to the value of £50-£100k.
Building upon the current small programme, you will lead on initiating conversations with new funders; quickly building rapport and submitting compelling funding proposals and writing timely reports as necessary. This is the sole Trusts based role within the Fundraising team but works closely with senior stakeholders across the organisation to develop funding projects and applications.

This is a part time, very flexible role, of around 4-6 days per month. 

The Trusts & Philanthropy Fundraising Manager role is a vital part of this vision and your excellent writing skills and relationship building will help us achieve our ambitions.

Working closely within our friendly and results driven Trusts and Philanthropy team, you will manage your own portfolio of charitable trusts and support the developing major donor and statutory funding relationships as required. You will be helping us Beat Macular Disease by talking with funders and writing bespoke funding applications for support services, medical research and core costs. The New Corporate Partnerships team is comprised of a head of team, two senior managers, two senior officers, three officers and one assistant.

The New Corporate Partnerships team has been at the forefront of securing some fantastic partnerships for Mind such as, Allianz, Bupa, Co-op, Direct Line, Dunelm, ITV, McLaren Racing, and McVitie's, to name a few. Our partnerships cover the spectrum of partnership types; strategic and Charity of the Year partnerships (COTYs) and brand and commercial partnerships. You will help us build on our success.

Key duties and responsibilities

The post holder will:

Working with the Head of New Partnerships, the New Corporate Partnerships Manager will:

-Help develop and implement the Corporate Partnerships team's new partnerships strategy, working closely with the Head of New Corporate Partnerships and other team members.

-In year one, be accountable for delivering an individual income target for 22/23 and supporting the overall New Partnerships Teams' multi-year income targets and ROI, working with the Head of New Corporate Partnerships and reviewing progress on a monthly and quarterly basis.

-Lead and develop opportunities from the Charity of the Year (COTY) and commercial/strategic pipeline, including developing and stewarding relationships, submitting proposals, leading on pitches, while working with various teams across Mind.

-Project Manage high level bids, to engage internal teams, create clear project plans including: roles and responsibilities, senior stakeholder briefing and internal feedback.

-Identify networking opportunities across Mind and externally for potential corporate partnerships

-Develop stewardship plans for top prospects, including Mind senior leadership and trustee engagement and roles, taking a collaborative approach and balancing impact and effort across opportunities

-Line manage two New Corporate Partnerships Officers who will support with the development of pitches and lead their own opportunities with your support

-Lead and assist with the design of new partnership agreements with companies to ensure that expectations from both parties are met and the interests of Mind are looked after, and risks are mitigated.

-Work proactively with the Corporate Partnerships team managers and support the wider team to renew, deliver and grow holistic, donor-focused partnerships where appropriate.

-Work with colleagues across Mind to identify the potential and manage the risk in new partnerships, ensuring that Mind's ethical policy and charity legislation is adhered to.

-Monitor, analyse and review information on industry trends, innovations and developments, keeping the pipeline updated.

-Represent the Partnerships team in appropriate working groups, workshops and/or meetings/other events as directed.

-Monitor and evaluate new business activity and provide regular updates/reports to the Head of New Corporate Partnerships.

-To use the CRM database to enter, update and extract accurate information to maximise operational benefits and opportunities from the database system.

The Role 
 
As our Communications Officer, you will be responsible for planning and delivering a wide range of communications that contribute to increased brand awareness of the charity, demonstrate the charity’s expertise and impact, educate the public about cancer prevention, signs, symptoms and screening and support the generation of income for the charity. 

Specifically, you will: 

• Plan, research, create and distribute creative media content, including press releases, blog posts, case studies and videos, to support research, services, cancer insight, fundraising, events, retail, corporate partnerships and campaigns. 

• Proactively seek, identify and engage in media opportunities, such as attending events, organising photo opportunities and meeting face-to-face with case studies.

• Manage third-party suppliers such as photographers and film production agencies, obtaining quotes, providing clear briefings and ensuring work is delivered on time and within budget.

• Respond to press enquiries efficiently and to a high standard. Understand which media enquiries are appropriate for the charity’s brand and key messages and those which are not, so that the charity prioritises only those which are value-adding. 

• Organise TV, radio and press interview opportunities for the Chief Executive, Directors and Heads of. Prepare clear briefings for interviewees. 

• Demonstrate and convey professionalism at all times and represent the charity when communicating with the media, members of the public, volunteers and supporters to demonstrate the charity’s core values.

• Monitor and evaluate the charity’s media coverage and the digital impact of PR content, providing a monthly media clippings report. 

• Provide PR input to the charity’s Leadership Team, Board reports and performance dashboards. 

• Maintain continuous awareness of industry news and regularly update colleagues on key developments. 

 
About You 

To be considered for this role, you will need: 

• To be educated to a degree or equivalent level of education or have relevant experience in a similar role at a similar level. 

• Previous media experience, whether through journalism or a PR / in house media assistant role. 

• Experience in building relationships with colleagues and journalists and managing media opportunities such as interviews, broadcast opportunities and photocalls. 

• An ability to write compelling copy for multiple audiences, and media channels, often translating complicated information into a format that is easily understood by readers. 

• An agile media mind, able to spot the key storyline that will maximise the possibility of media coverage and attract the attention of the media. 

• An evaluative mindset, supporting continual improvement by analysing coverage and associated data from media activity. 

• An ability to keep a calm head when faced with a reactive media situation in a manner that best protects the reputation of the charity 

• A thoughtful and empathetic outlook, able to engage with people affected by cancer with sensitivity and respect.

The Pituitary Foundation is the UK’s leading charity providing support and information for people living with pituitary conditions, their families, friends and carers. We are based in an office in central Bristol, with some staff and volunteers working remotely throughout the UK. Pituitary conditions are uncommon, usually lifelong and can be life threatening. Conditions include acromegaly, Cushing's, prolactinoma, AVP-Deficiency and hypopituitarism.

About the organisation

The Environment Investigation Agency investigate and campaign against environmental crime and abuse. Their undercover investigations expose transnational wildlife crime, with a focus on elephants and tigers, and forest crimes such as illegal logging and deforestation for cash crops like palm oil. The EIA work to safeguard global marine ecosystems by addressing the threats posed by plastic pollution, bycatch and commercial exploitation of whales, dolphins and porpoises. Finally, EIA reduce the impact of climate change by campaigning to eliminate powerful refrigerant greenhouse gases, exposing related illicit trade and improving energy efficiency in the cooling sector.

The Role

The fundraising team at EIA, is responsible for raising income across trusts and statutory funders, as well as raising funds from individuals. The income raised from public fundraising has increased in recent years and they are investing in this area to further increase unrestricted income so that we can conduct even more investigative and campaigning work to protect our natural world.

It is an exciting time to join EIA, as we embark on a new organisational strategy and a new fundraising strategy. This role is crucial to our ambitious plans to step change our public fundraising and ensure the best possible experience for all of our supporters. Your work will help to ensure that our activities inspire the public to give generously to enable us to combat environmental crime and abuse around the world.

Responsibilities:

* Lead on the production of key supporter engagement pieces, the Year in Review and Supporter newsletters, including: curating the content, copywriting, data, as well as liaising with the mailing house and graphic designer.
* Plan, implement and evaluate digital and offline supporter-driven supporter journeys from all individual giving audiences, including appeals, digital, regular giving and the weekly lottery
* Work with the Senior Individual Giving Officer on the 40th anniversary supporter engagement activities
* Work closely with the Senior Individual Giving Officer, Supporter Services Officer and teams across the organisation (including the Communications and Campaign teams) to develop inspiring and targeted content and communications that increase engagement and lifetime value of supporters
* Monitor Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to evaluate the success of supporter journeys
* Along with the Supporter Services Officer, be a key point of contact for supporters, ensuring that all supporters have a positive experience

New Supporter Acquisition

* Lead on all aspects of supporter acquisition through digital and telephone channels, ensuring that all campaigns are delivered on time, on budget, and meet the campaign KPIs:
* Weekly Lottery acquisition campaigns - promoting to both new and existing supporters, to acquire new lottery players and raise regular income.
* Digital lead generation and acquisition campaigns - to recruit new cash and regular givers
* Telephone fundraising campaigns - to recruit new, and reactivate lapsed, regular giving supporters using leads from a variety of online and offline sources.
* Responsible for the end-to-end management of acquisition campaigns, from briefing internal and external stakeholders and suppliers, to developing creative and monitoring results and evaluating performance

Requirements:

* Demonstrable experience in an individual giving role in the charity sector
* End-to-end experience of creating successful direct marketing campaigns
* Excellent campaign management and planning skills
* Strong written communication skills and experience of writing compelling and engaging copy
* Good understanding of digital marketing and social media
