We have an exciting opportunity for an Executive Director to lead a small charity who work within the Jewish community to make it more inclusive of LGBT+ people through education, consultancy and training.
Position: Executive Director

About the role:
As Executive Director you will lead a small team – Head of Education (full time), Head of Community Life (full time) and Programme and Volunteer Officer (full time), working with a charity that has a vision of a world where no one is forced to choose between their LGBT+ and Jewish identity.
As the only charity doing this in the UK, the charity works in partnership with communities to identify their goals, then tailor support so they can achieve them.
Key responsibilities of the Executive Director:
- Delivering the organisation’s priorities as laid out in the 2022-2027 strategy
- Ensuring financial sustainability through devising and executing a fundraising strategy and carefully managing the organisational budget
- Sensitive, compassionate leadership and management of the professional team
- Working in close partnership with the Board of Trustees
- Effective accounting and governance
- Monitoring and managing risk via the risk register and seeking legal advice where necessary
- Managing key stakeholders both internal (e.g. volunteers) and external (e.g. communal partners, the wider LGBT+ sector)
- Being the primary spokesperson and ambassador for the charity
About you:
- The ability to speak and write confidently and authentically about LGBT+ issues
- Strategic leadership, planning and decision-making experience in a commercial, not-for-profit or public service setting
- Line management experience, including the ability to inspire and empower a staff team
- Understanding of the charity and voluntary sector, including the funding environment in which charities operate
- Highly effective relationship-builder across multiple arenas (internal stakeholders, external partners, funders etc)
- Knowledge and experience of strategic planning and business development, including operational planning and delivery management
- Knowledge and working experience of organisational finance and budget planning cycles
- Experience working with, and preferably in, the UK Jewish community
- Positive, problem-solving and solutions-oriented
Although not essential it would also be beneficial if you have some of the following skills / experience:
- Delivering training or education in a Jewish setting

Key Responsibilities
1) Overseeing Financial Management, Reporting, and Monitoring (60%):
- Manage the financial aspects of funded scholarship programmes, including budgeting, reporting, and monitoring spending.
- Prepare narrative and financial reports for donors, coordinating with UWC schools.
- Lead the process of collecting and analysing data on scholarship recipient students and refugee students across all UWC schools for donor reporting, brochures and publications.
- Collate invoices from UWC schools, create invoices for donors and process invoices for payment.
- Ensure accurate record-keeping and efficient use of the accounting system.
- Support the improvement of impact tracking for funded programmes.
- Support the philanthropy and finance teams with the annual audit by coordinating information gathering and documentation on funded programmes’ financials.
2) Supporting Student Stewardship for All Funded Programmes (10%):
- Plan and organise annual onboarding and offboarding sessions for IO-managed scholars.
- Develop appropriate information materials for scholars and UWC schools to support timely and quality donor reporting.
- Implement a yearly offboarding survey with scholars, working closely with the Engagement Team.
- Support coordination between UWC schools and national committees during the selection process and pre-departure preparation.
3) Coordinating University Partnerships (10%):
- Coordinate partnerships with universities on behalf of UWC International, working closely with the Senior Adviser, UWC counsellors and EducationTeam.
4) Assisting the Philanthropy Team with Administration incl. Donation Services (20%):
- Manage donation management processes and support donor stewardship processes, including processing online donations through donation platforms and preparing donation acknowledgement letters for donors.
- Maintain data on Raisers’ Edge database and philanthropy dashboard, preparing management updates.
- Coordinate introductions for new philanthropy staff members at UWC schools.
- Oversee subscriptions to databases and respond to inquiries via email.
Person Specification
Experience and skills
- Financial Management and Reporting: Prior experience in financial management, budgeting, reporting, and monitoring, preferably in a nonprofit organisation or educational institution.
- Data Analysis: Experience in collecting, analysing, and presenting data for reporting purposes.

UPSU is a not-for-profit, value led organisation which exists to represent the interests of the students studying with the University of Plymouth and support their wider student experience through extracurricular activity.
Key responsibilities will be to develop and deliver outstanding Finance Services in line with UPSU’s strategy and to be accountable for the strategic management of the Union’s financial resources and services and successfully manage the day-to-day operations within the Finance Team.
The successful candidate should be a fully qualified accountant with a breadth of experience from a range of finance environments in senior roles, demonstrating strategic financial management.
Areas of responsibility:
- Provide strategic and financial guidance to ensure that the Students’ Union’s financial commitments are met.
- Ensure UPSU has strong financial management.

- Develop, implement, and monitor annual business operating plan for the Finance Team and services provided.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Financial Management
- Ensure compliance with all statutory and legal requirements.
- Oversee the year end statutory accounts preparation and audit.
- Lead the preparation of the annual budget and forecasts and present finance papers to the Board of Trustees and relevant committees.
- Ensure timely and accurate financial accounting, production of monthly management accounts and the processing of returns to HMRC.
- Ensure a strong internal control framework and effective financial policies and procedures are in place.
- Responsibility for the SU’s payroll system and ensuring that PAYE regulations are adhered to at all times.
- Ensure that insurance cover is adequate for all areas of the SU, whilst maintaining value for money.
- To ensure that the Union’s cash assets are regularly reconciled, effectively managed to optimise cash flow and invested in a manner that will maximise the interest earned.
- Manage relationships with University finance staff, auditors, tax advisors, insurance brokers and banks.
People Management
- Provide leadership and direction for the Finance Team.
- Provide leadership, direct and coaching for direct reports.
- Co-ordinate the work and monitor the workloads of direct reports, undertaking performance reviews for Finance staff as appropriate.
- Identify individual training and development needs for direct reports and the Finance Team and assist in their development.
Service Delivery Management
- Create a culture of excellent customer service, ensuring that staff treat colleagues, students and stakeholders in a friendly manner and do everything in their power to exceed their expectations.
- Be responsible for the development and maintenance of relevant regulations and policies.
- To lead the development of finance IT systems to simplify and streamline approaches whilst maximising efficiencies.
Compliance Management
- Contribute to the development and maintenance of UPSU’s Risk Register.
- To update and maintain the Union’s asset register and other records of the Union’s financial and physical resources.
- Lead responsibility for any IT Service Level Agreement with the University.
- Ensure the department’s operations are compliant with national and local legal requirements including Health & Safety and the Students’ Union’s internal procedures.
- Overall responsibility for all health and safety matters within the department, ensuring that the Health and Safety Policy and appropriate legislation is adhered to, ensuring the health and safety of customers, suppliers, and visitors to the Students’ Union.
- To produce timely and accurate financial reports to the University as required under the 1994 Education Act.
General
- Understand and uphold the Vision, Mission and Values of the organisation and ensure that these guide and inform the work and conduct of the post holder. UPSU has a democratic decision-making process and the post holder must always respect this when carrying out their duties.
- To cover any Duty Manager responsibilities as and when required.
- Keep UPSU’s strategic plan in mind at all times, aligning all work efforts with the plan
- Be knowledgeable of the UPSU Constitution and Bye-Laws, as they apply to this post, including any legal requirements.
- Work in accordance with all UPSU policies and procedures, including Health and Safety, Staffing Protocols, Financial Procedures and the UPSU Equal Opportunities Policy.
- Work in accordance with UPSU’s Environmental Policy.
- Undertake duties from time to time as requested by the Chief Executive that may be reasonably considered within the scope of the post.

The Holocaust Educational Trust’s mission is to ensure that people from every background are educated about the Holocaust and the important lessons to be learned for today.
They are seeking an experienced, strategic accounting professional to work with the Treasurer, Chief Executive and Managing Director, to devise and implement the Trust’s finance strategy, to ensure they have the resources they need to deliver their charitable objectives. The Finance Director will be responsible for ensuring an effective finance function; leading on the financial management of the Trust; overseeing financial compliance and governance; and the development and oversight of our Financial Strategy.

HET work to make sure that the millions who were murdered in this dark period of history are remembered, and honour those who survived and continue to tell the world of their experiences. Since 1988, the Holocaust Educational Trust has worked with schools, universities and communities around the UK to raise awareness and understanding of the Holocaust.
Through their flagship programme, the Lessons from Auschwitz Project, tens of thousands of young people have had the opportunity to see for themselves the site of the former Nazi concentration and death camp Auschwitz-Birkenau. The key duties of the Director of Finance are as follows:
- Support the CEO and Senior Leadership Team in developing HET's organisational strategy and plans, ensuring they are financially sustainable.
- Play a key role in the senior management team and attend and present at various Committee and Board meetings.
- Prepare and present accurate and timely financial data and supporting narrative including strategic plans, budgets, management accounts, and live forecasts, updated monthly or as required.
- Support in the creation of, and challenging on, departmental budgets; presenting budget to Board and budget holders.
- Lead on the financial side of grant and contract reporting and applications.
- Work with the wider team to ensure procurement procedures are getting value for money and contracts are financially sound.

- Effectively line manage the Finance Manager and support their, and the wider Finance team’s, development.
- Support the Finance team in the implementation and use of the new Finance System.
The successful candidate will have:
- A recognised accounting qualification.
- Significant strategic and business planning experience, scenario planning and investment management.
- Expert knowledge of financial control procedures, SORP and charity accounting.
- Experience of presenting complex financial information to Trustees and Board of Management as well as to non-finance managers.
- Proven leadership skills and management skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including sound report writing and presentation skills.

As part of this work closely with the Data Protection Officer to ensure data protection and cyber security requirements are met and with the HR function to ensure health and safety requirements are met.
- Lead the SLT and key suppliers in developing a business continuity plan that ensures AdviceUK can continue to deliver its strategic objectives and support its members in times of business interruption. Once established ensure it is regularly reviewed and tested.
- Ensure the development and implementation of financial and people management policies and processes that support AdviceUK's work and culture
