About the Role
Our young carers team are commissioned by statutory services to provide one-to-one support and opportunities for time out and fun to young carers across Surrey.
We are looking for an adaptable and confident leader to line manage a team of five remote-working staff, who are passionate about supporting children and young people and helping them reach the best possible outcomes.
You will either be an experienced line manager, looking for a role that can offer you flexibility, a great work-life balance and the opportunity to manage a team who really care about the work that they do. Or you will have supervisory experience and be looking for your next role. Either way, you must have comprehensive experience working with children and young people in health, social care, education or the voluntary sector.
Key Responsibilities
- To motivate, encourage and lead a team of front-line staff.
- To advise and the support the team on managing their caseload and workplan and on safeguarding matters.
- To network and represent SYC in professional meetings, with stakeholders and doners.
- Deliver awareness raising sessions to professionals in health, social care and education on young carers.
- Carry out line management responsibilities, including inductions, supervisions, appraisals, managing leave requests, probation, and conduct and capability matters.
- To help with the growth of our volunteer programme, which could include developing volunteer opportunities, training, support and supervision of volunteers.
- To help the organisation work to achieving quarterly KPIS, as set by our commissioners.
- As part of the management team, contribute and participate in projects and strategic objectives that further the whole organisation.
- To provide data, case studies and inform policies and procedures that support the aims of the charity.
About You
- You will be a confident leader and have the management skills to effectively lead and motivate a team
- You will have a proven professional experience of working with children, young people and families
- You will have a systematic approach to your work, particularly with monitoring, recording and managing outcomes for young carers, and be able to coach your team in order to achieve the same.
- You will have experience of recording service user information on databases and have confidence in using a range software packages.
- You will have a clear and confident communication style, and be able to engage effectively and inspire professionals, young carers and your own team.
- You will have had a proven work history in managing safeguarding concerns and have a good understanding of data protection legislation.
Events and activities for Young Carers are held during evenings, weekends and the school holiday period. You must be available to attend these events from time-to-time for monitoring and coaching purposes and to provide cover, for example in the event of sickness.
This role involves hybrid working, based at home and working at our offices in Burpham, Guildford.

What will I be doing?
The role of Community Youth Worker is, by nature, highly relational and is a position of great influence that enables you to nurture, inspire, connect and empower young people from all walks of life, so they can make the most of their lives. As such, it is a role which is demanding and carries great responsibility, but provides exciting opportunities to impact the lives of young people.
This is a varied role which carries with it a variety of different aspects and you are expected to manage your own workload and diary and priorities in liaison with your line manager and with the available time. Your role is primarily delivery but does also include some coordination relating to projects and volunteers. Due to the nature of the work you will be expected to work some evenings and occasional weekends.
What do we expect from you?
To meet, build healthy relationships with and help improve the lives of young people in Guildford Borough. This will be achieved through a variety of activities according to the needs of young people and the resources available to Matrix, including, but not exclusive to:
Community Youth Work
Community Youth Work takes many forms and while the actual work is subject to change according to the current needs of young people or Matrix, it may include:
- Detached youth work
- Running/assisting with after-school and/or holiday clubs
- Mentoring young people
- Supporting young people in a social enterprise environment
- Research of young people’s needs in the local community
Youth Café
The Youth Hideaway is our flagship project and is a fun open access youth café run by our team after school at our social enterprise café - The Hideaway.
As a Community Youth Worker some of your time will be spent assisting the Youth Café, Project Lead and Head of Youth Work in delivering this project and it may include:
- Helping to create a safe, fun and inspiring environment for the young people that attend
- Plan, prepare and deliver quality youth sessions
- Build healthy relationships with young people that attend the sessions, identifying and responding to the needs that may arise
Monthly Youth Hubs
Youth Hubs are fun open access youth clubs run by our youth workers in the community. These are run on a monthly basis on rotation in different areas within Guildford Borough. As a Community Youth Worker you will be responsible for planning, organising and running at least one HUB, which may include:
- Creating a safe, fun and inspiring environment for the young people that attend
- Planning, preparing and delivering quality youth club sessions
- Building healthy relationships with young people that attend the club sessions, identifying and responding to the needs that may arise
- Promoting the activities of the Youth Hub in the community
- Exemplify the charity's values and Christian ethos to the wider ‘Hubs’ team, leading them in prayer where appropriate.
- Promote the activities of the Youth Café in the community
GASP Motor Project
Matrix will often work in collaboration with partner organisations and following a successful run of pilot sessions we are pleased to confirm that from September 2022 we will be extending our work with GASP Motor Project.
Working in this setting is very similar to the mentoring work that we offer in schools and you may be expected to:
- Conduct one-to-one sessions to listen to, analyse and respond to the physical, intellectual, emotional, social and spiritual needs of young people
- Manage, monitor and evaluate caseloads as part of the one-to-one support sessions
- Develop and run a variety of contact points for the young people attending the project, including group sessions
- Build good working relationships with the GASP team
Schools Work
Our work in schools is varied and you may be expected to:
- Conduct one-to-one sessions to listen to, analyse and respond to the physical, intellectual, emotional, social and spiritual needs of young people
- Manage, monitor and evaluate caseloads within your allocated school as part of the one-to-one support sessions
- Develop and run a variety of contact points and projects for young people across the school, including group sessions and drop-ins and after school projects
- Alongside the Secondary Schools Project Lead, supervise and build a team of volunteers to work within the school
- Build good working relationships with school staff, CAMHS and other relevant local services

Personal Specification
Essential
- A strong youth work background in a relevant field e.g.: youth work, teaching, social work
- Able to relate well to young people in all environments including (but not exclusively)school, 1:1, open youth clubs and partner projects
- Capable of building relationships with and liaising with other professionals
- Experience of leading workshops and / or groups sessions with young people
- Able to set appropriate boundaries with young people, in all situations
- Agree with and able to support and work within the Christian ethos of The Matrix Trust. (This job has a “genuine occupational requirement” (GOR) for the post to be filled by a Christian).
- Able to work effectively alone and as a part of a team (including with volunteers)
- Good IT skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- This role will require the applicant to travel between multiple locations (local to Guildford) at various times

Phyllis Tuckwell provides supportive and end of life care for people living with an advanced or terminal illness. Based in Farnham and Guildford, we serve a population of 550,000 across West Surrey and part of North East Hampshire.
We are about to embark on a very exciting time as we build a new hospice. This Community Fundraising Manager role will play an important part in leading a team to deliver the best supporter care to our community as they fundraise for us not only in support of the upcoming Capital Appeal but also to continue to provide the current and ongoing care to our patients.
Community Fundraising Manager FTC (Maternity Cover)

During Joe’s life he brought a cheeky spirit and constant laughter to all those that met him. His selflessness and commitment to helping others touched so many, and in loving memory and as a legacy to Joe, his friends and family set up Joe's Buddy Line in January 2021.

Your key purpose will be to support the Individual Giving Manager in the provision of excellence in supporter care for individuals supporting all fundraising activities and projects related to Shooting Star Children’s Hospices Individual Giving programme, Gifts in Memory fundraising and ensuring Shooting Star Children’s Hospices families who choose to fundraise are effectively supported in their activity. This role will support the charities appeal fundraising programme, working with the Head of Supporter Engagement and Individual Giving Manager on supporter stewardship.
The Supporter Care Co-ordinator will also provide efficient and effective key administrative support to the wider fundraising team, optimising income generation proactivity cross-team.

About the role:
As an Area Manager, you’ll lead and support shop teams across your designated area, made up of paid and voluntary staff. You will take full accountability for the profit of a mixed portfolio of shops in the Surrey and Middlesex area; this accountability extends to all income streams and controllable shop expenses. You will also be instrumental in developing and delivering, through your shop teams, high levels of supporter experience through well-presented shops and excellent supporter service. You’ll work closely with the Head of Retail and other Hospice colleagues in the day to day running of the business and contribute to all future development.
This is a full time, field-based role. You will have an office base but the majority of the working week will be spent in shops with a need to travel daily between your shops. You’ll need to hold a current driving license (maximum 6 penalty points). The role also includes working ad hoc weekends, as needs of the business require.
About You:
This position would ideally suit an experienced Area Manager, with a background in charity. However, we welcome applications form Area Managers with a solid background and transferable skills from the retail industry.
With proven people management experience, you will be confident, friendly, and possess excellent communication skills coupled with a high degree of competence in IT skills.
You will be self-motivated, able to handle conflict, problem solve and develop working relationships at all levels. Additionally, you will be extremely well organised, flexible and able to manage several tasks simultaneously.

Our mission is to help children and young people have a fair chance to be who they want to be. We do this by providing a safe home, increasing life skills and self-confidence, and improving emotional wellbeing and mental health.
We are seeking an experienced Rent Officer to join our small, dispersed Rent Team which consists of a Rent Team Leader; two Rent Officers, and two part-time Rent Team Administrators which sits within our Housing and Property services. In conjunction with our Supported Housing services, the Rent Team is responsible for the collection of the organisation's rent and other property charges. As a Rent Officer you will manage a caseload of properties and will be responsible for monitoring rent accounts; ensuring that appropriate action is taken to maximize rental income. You will ensure accuracy of rent accounts’ and service users’ information held on the rent management database (Pyramid).
In addition, you will liaise with relevant local authorises housing benefit departments; ensuring positive relationships are forged. You will have knowledge of the external environment in which YMCA DownsLink Group works and keep abreast of key changes, particularly around Welfare Reform.
Hybrid role – mainly based at Reed House in Hove, with an expectation to work out of other locations across the YMCA DownsLink Group area when required. Working a minimum of three days at Reed House / on site and two days from home - working hours of Monday to Thursday, 9am to 5pm and Friday, 9am to 4.30pm.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities
This will be based within community venues and working alongside our REP Case Managers to deliver an employability themed curriculum on a face-to-face basis. You will ensure that all learners have completed their ESOL Assessment, are engaged in the right level of support, are learning and are thriving in their journey towards integration in the UK and progressing with their ESOL to support returning to work over their time on REP.
Your responsibilities will include:
• Work alongside Case Managers to complete ESOL assessments and design bespoke
ESOL learning plans for each individual
• Deliver good quality in-house ESOL provision on a face-to-face basis appropriate to
learners levels and in the community and at community venues.
• Where needed liaise with local colleges, ESOL providers, charities and other
organisations to refer learners based on their language levels and needs

Programme Overview
The Refugee Employability Programme is a new initiative that offers enhanced support to defined cohorts of legally recognised refugees in the UK. Starting in September 2023, the programme will provide tailored support for each participant focussed on gaining sustainable employment. As a Supported Housing Support Worker you will hold a caseload of residents, working with them on a one-to-one basis with also facilitating group work sessions. You will work closely with other services such as, Social Services, Police, Probation, education providers and local organisations. Our projects already have excellent working relationships with these services, and your role will build on these. This is a new role in our structure, playing a key part in delivering capital investment programme in line with the business plan – whilst working closely with other members of the team to ensure we maintain compliance and maintenance. As part of the Asset Management team restructure, we have identified a need for a Building Surveyor to assist the Head of Asset Management to deliver Capital Investment programme. By bringing these skills in house, it is hoped to create a more dynamic role with the benefit of ability to oversee upcoming works and provide additional resources to areas we need additional expertise such as dilapidations, disrepair, HHSRS and damp and mould.

You will lead on the delivery of capital investment programme, ensuring planned works are appropriately procured to ensure value for money and adequately experienced/qualified contractors deliver works. You will also undertake and maintain stock condition surveys, undertake building surveys to complete dilapidations, complex repair scoping of works (and specification writing – where appropriate), disrepair, damp and mould inspections (more complex cases) and provision of technical expertise in absence of Head of Asset Management. In addition, you will support colleagues across the business to empower them to confidently make low level decisions themselves.

YMCA West Sussex Transitional Housing provides safe, secure accommodation for young people aged 18-25, who have been, or are at risk of homelessness. Our staff team comprises of Supported Housing Support Workers, Housing Mobile Night Workers and two Supported Housing Managers. We offer a support package alongside the accommodation to actively encourage residents into education, training, employment or voluntary work.
In delivering the role, you will work with the Deputy Supported Housing Manager and the wider housing team to provide effective day to day management of our transitional accommodation service. You will have your own caseload of residents, working creatively and effectively alongside young people to develop their assets and talents and to acquire the skills they need to live independent and fulfilling lives. You will contribute to the smooth and safe running of the service by providing consistency and reliability.
