We have an exciting opportunity for a Lead Instructor to join our amazing Scout adventure team.
Location: Scout Adventures Gilwell Park, Chingford, E4 7QW
Salary: £25,685 per annum, Band C, Level 3
Working Hours: 40 hours per week
Term: Permanent

The Lead Instructor Role:
We’re looking for someone to join our team who is just as passionate as we are about getting young people outdoors to have an adventure as we are. You will have great leadership potential, be organised and able to organise others, and have plenty of instructing experience with a range of groups and activities. You’ll want to learn and be prepared to put in the work to and effort needed to develop as a practitioner and a manager.
Key responsibilities as our Lead Instructor:
- Coaching, mentoring and pastoral supervision of the instructing team
- Maintaining accurate records of staff training, assessment and competency, equipment and activity facilities, operating procedures and risk assessments
- Assisting with the creation of group programmes and staff timetables
- Ensuring relevant checks, processes and paperwork are maintained to meet external and internal accreditation standards - including management of equipment and PPE
- Delivering adventurous activity, and training to internal and external clients
- Monitoring the safety and quality of activity sessions
- Working as a Duty Manager being the first point of contact for the daily operation of the centre on a rota basis; including managing the site team and any service crews, providing an ‘on call’ service during out of hours times for guests on centre, and support with first aid and safeguarding
- Assisting other staff, including taking bookings, checking in/out groups and liaising with guests
- As a youth focused organisation, applicants agree to comply at all times with the safeguarding rules including vetting and Basic/Enhanced DBS checks
What we are looking for in our Lead Instructor:
- Competent IT skills especially in office applications
- The ability to supervise staff including appropriate delegation, encouraging personal development and managing performance
- Experience working with High Ropes and Target Sports sessions and equipment
- Experience working in an outdoor education or activity centre – working with a wide range of groups and activities
- Experience in leading, mentoring and supporting others
- Understanding of The Scout and how we work

The Lead Instructor Role:
We’re looking for someone to join our team who is just as passionate as we are about getting young people outdoors to have an adventure as we are.
We are looking for someone with the knowledge, experience and qualifications in Watersports and the below are essential for this role.
- Paddlesport Minimum one of: Canoe/ Kayak Sheltered Water Coach, Touring Leader, Paddlesport Leader
- We would consider someone who holds: Sailing Instructor and Powerboat Instructor award alongside a lower paddlesports qualification with the view to upskill the paddlesport award as soon as possible
- Desirable: PB2, Dinghy Instructor, or sailing experience

About the Account Handler Role:
As our Account Handler, you will act as a prime contact point for Unity's portfolio of clients comprising of individual Scout and Guide groups or other external small charity clients for their insurance requirements.
What we are looking for in our Account Handler:
- Experience with youth charities and their insurance needs
- Experience working in the commercial insurance industry
- Computer literate and experience in using insurance systems
- Knowledge and experience of FSA Compliance and TCF practices
- Must be able to demonstrate experience in insurance broking
- Must be able to advise on, sell and service all classes of commercial insurance products
- Professional insurance qualifications
- Cert CII or Diploma in Insurance
Key responsibilities as our Account Handler:
- Offering information, guidance and quotes to existing clients in respect of their insurance needs
- Cross-selling and up-selling relevant products to existing clients
- Offering information, guidance and quotes to prospects in respect of their insurance needs and converting these to clients
- Achieving targets set in respect of existing client revenue retention, new business growth and lead generation and other key performance indicators
- Administration of policies in line with the objectives of accuracy, speed and completeness, deal with all policy and client queries and achieve prompt and appropriate solutions
- Collection of premiums income in line with Unity policies
- Working as an effective member of Unity staff
- Complying with all business and office procedures and FCA rules
- Pro-actively review all insurance procedures in use and suggest continual improvements as part of Treating Customers Fairly initiatives
- Processing and handling of claims for clients
