This new role will form part of The Service User Leadership Team, one of our core Central Support Teams, and will report into the Head of Service User Leadership. 

The primary focus of this role is to provide bespoke consultancy and training packages to external partners, in both service user leadership and peer support, that will drive forward positive change across mental health and social care in these areas.

Through engaging in networking opportunities, alongside the Head of Service User Leadership, this role will lead on building relationships with key partners, increasing opportunities to collaborate, whilst strengthening our profile, reputation, and brand.  We are looking for a passionate and enthusiastic individual, who has their own lived experience of mental distress, demonstrable experience in effective stakeholder engagement and working towards targets, in addition to designing, and delivering training packages.  The ideal candidate will also possess extensive expert knowledge in relation to peer support and service user leadership.   

This position is 3 days per week (22.5 hours) and is fixed term for 2 years from the commencement of employment.  The role is home based with the expectation of travel when required to attend engagement and networking events, deliver training to external partners or for attendance at meetings in Head Office.  The role will may also include occasional travel to our Together services when required.  All travel expenses will be paid.

Fowler’s Syndrome UK (Registered Charity number 1196903) is a unique patient and clinician led charity that works to raise awareness, promote education and encourage research into the debilitating bladder condition Fowler’s Syndrome. The condition solely affects women and Fowler’s Syndrome UK (FSUK) is the only charity in the world to directly support women with this condition.

Fowler’s syndrome is a life changing and currently almost untreatable condition, affecting up to 20,000 women in the UK. It  causes full or partial urinary retention and solely affects women*, meaning they have problems passing urine due to a difficulty in relaxing the urinary sphincter. The peak age of onset is 26. It was first described by Professor Clare Fowler, Emeritus professor of Uro-Neurology at UCLh, and FSUK’s patron, in 1985.

We estimate that there are in excess of 20,000 women in the UK suffering from, but not necessarily diagnosed with, the condition, because of the lack of knowledge about Fowler’s Syndrome both from a patient and clinician perspective.

85% of women with Fowler’s Syndrome say the condition has had a severe or devastating impact on their life.

75% of those with FS have been told their urinary symptoms are due to anxiety or ‘all in their head’

There is low awareness of the condition among the medical community outside of specialist hospitals. Only an estimated 30% of GPs are aware of Fowler’s Syndrome. Once diagnosed, there are few resources available for patients and limited treatment options. Many women feel alone and unsupported.

Our mission is to provide resources, promote education and facilitate research into Fowler’s syndrome; so women with the condition have stigma free access to a timely diagnosis, suitable and effective treatment options, care and psychological support.

The Role: Administrator

The administrator’s role is to support the CEO in the daily management of the charity. This will include administration, delivering resources, comms including social media and website, outreach and events, fundraising and research. It will also include supporting the CEO and Patient Liaison with seminars and conferences, and support groups.

Administration: Support the CEO and the Finance and Governance lead with daily activities, including but not limited to grant applications, basic finance administration, project management, project delivery, database management, office management. Objective: Improve efficiency and quality of the charity’s management

Resources: Supporting the CEO and working to deliver first class resources.  Working with the CEO and Patient Liaison to efficiently and effectively run the roll out of our resources, following the CEO’s guidelines and the charity’s mission and vision. This will include Healthcare professional (HCP) leaflets, Patient leaflets, a catheter support series, mental health support series, Pain management support from pharmacists and Physiotherapist led sessions. This will also include management of zoom and in person groups,  dissemination of information on studies and surveys.

Comms:  Manage the patient database including GDPR, manage newsletters, PR, website. Manage FSUK’s social media, with direction from the CEO. Daily posts plus responding to queries and signposting. Social media partnerships. Monthly email to database. Basic updates to website

Outreach and events: Drive awareness of FSUK in the local community and beyond Work with CEO to manage merchandising, registration, setup, logistics of events. Find, plan and represent FSUK at events. Manage yearly even calendar. Working with the CEO and administrator to plan, organise and run events, including transformative one-day seminar for healthcare professionals and a two-day seminar for FSUK users and clinicians.

Fundraising: Help the CEO and Patient liaison with fundraising, both on an individual and trust basis.

Community led research: Assist the CEO in creating patient led community research.

Research: Assist the CEO and work with the Patient Liaison in creating and conducting research. Including Patient perspectives input into consensus guidelines for non-surgical management, Dr. Ingrid Hoeritzauer, Patient experiences with sacral neuromodulation, Dr. Caroline Selai, Awareness of FS among UK urology community, Prof Jalesh Panicker via University Cambridge, Physiotherapy treatment experiences with FS and CIUR, Dr. Ingrid Hoeritzauer. Our research will help enable women to receive the support they need and fulfil their potential, offering quicker diagnosis and better treatments and enabling our community to thrive.

There may be occasions where staff are required to work out of hours or support at events, including wish related activities such as our annual wish family Christmas party or wish community events, cheering runners at the London marathon or working at our annual fundraising gala. Our team in Camden has an exciting new opportunity for a Women Specialist Advocate to join the WiSER project, based in Camden. You will join us on a fixed term basis until the end of March 2025 (with the possibility of extension subject to ongoing funding.)

The WiSER Project is a partnership of specialist charities working together to provide support and advocacy for women whose experiences of violence and abuse intersect with multiple and severe disadvantage. We work with women who are frequently excluded from mainstream services and/or find it hard to engage with support, which increases their vulnerability and risk. Our assertive outreach approach enables women to access support, increase their self-esteem, and make safe choices.

About the Women Specialist Advocate role:

We are looking for an experienced, dynamic Specialist Advocate to join our advocacy and support team in Camden, with a specific remit to reach and support women facing multiple disadvantage. You will work intensively with a small caseload of women as part of a multidisciplinary team, collaborating extensively with external agencies.

You will be able to demonstrate knowledge of the intersection between severe and multiple disadvantage and Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG) and have a strong understanding of how this can make it difficult for women to engage with support. You will have worked with people experiencing various aspects of severe and multiple disadvantage: homelessness, substance use, mental health issues, insecure immigration status, prostitution, offending history and children taken in to care. Most importantly, you will be committed to improving services and life chances for women affected by VAWG who are experiencing severe and multiple disadvantage.

Please note: This service is run by women for women and is therefore restricted to women applicants under the Equality Act 2010, Schedule 9, Part 1. The post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act.

About you:

• An excellent understanding of the issues faced by women survivors of VAWG, including a knowledge of options for and rights of women experiencing all forms of VAWG.
• The ability to take a resilient and assertive approach to reaching out to and building trust and positive relationships with women who are experiencing multiple disadvantage, and who may present as reluctant to engage and/or may be presenting in crisis.

Have a strong understanding of the context and challenges facing vulnerable young women and girls, including the impacts of domestic violence, mental health, and sexual health.

Bring a significant experience of working with young women experiencing issues related to offending and experience of community engagement, advocacy and support work with young people and have proven practical experience of using motivational interviewing and coaching techniques with young women and girls, using a woman-centred approach to build trust and rapport.  You will demonstrate the ability to work in partnership with relevant statutory and voluntary groups, developing and maintaining strong constructive working relationships.

Background

Bipolar UK is the only national charity dedicated to empowering individuals and families affected by bipolar. Peer support is at the core of our work. We empower approximately 1,000 people a month to stay well - and we have the ambition to reach thousands more.

Bipolar does not discriminate on the grounds of sex, gender, age, ethnicity, race or background, consequently it affects everyone, and we estimate that one million people in the UK live with the condition many of whom remain undiagnosed, that's 1 in 50.  The condition also increases the risk of suicide by 20 times.  Bipolar impacts on relationships, missed milestones for young people with their peers, education, economic stability and employment, and creates social and economic problems and debt for those affected through symptomatic overspending.  Therefore, Bipolar UK are working hard to improve diagnosis times and support pathways to enable individuals affected by the condition to live well and fulfil their potential. At the heart of this is our peer support enabling our community to access tools and support to manage their condition.

About the role:

Bipolar UK is delighted to have this post funded through a new grant and we are seeking to recruit a Senior Peer Support Officer to work 3-days per week.

We are looking for an experienced person who is familiar with peer support and lived experience models to support and engage members of our London community who are affected by bipolar from a range of backgrounds.

Your role will include managing volunteers, increasing engagement in local existing support groups and developing new ones.  Working with our self-management trainers to run psycho-education courses.  The role will require you to work across London both online via Teams and Zoom and in-person.

You will be a creative self-starter who will support the service and look for innovative solutions to support clients with complex needs. You are confident professional relationship builder and has good awareness of Safeguarding procedures. Strong Administration skills and understanding of compliant behaviours also experience of supporting. With good knowledge of the criminal justice system and awareness of other support provisions within the North London area.

Solace Women’s Aid provides a wide range of services to victim/survivors of domestic and sexual abuse in Bexley including an advocacy and support service and specialist services co-located in a number of services. As part of this partnership Solace are recruiting for an IDVA to be co-located in Lewisham Police Station, covering crisis intervention, risk assessment, safety planning, assessment of needs and individual support planning. A key aspect of the role will be to advocate on behalf of service users to improve access to support in Bexley. This role will be based at Lewisham Police Station and within the Bexley Office.  

About the Role

A unique and exciting opportunity has arisen to work as a Police IDVA for Solace co-located in Lewisham Police station. As the IDVA you will provide immediate support for victim/survivors of abuse at all levels of intervention including carrying out risk and needs assessments, safety planning and providing short-term support and onward referral. In addition, you will act as the Police lead for Solace in Bexley, providing advice and guidance to Solace staff and the Police.

The Police IDVA will hold a case load of 15 cases.

You will be working as part of a multidisciplinary team and collaborating with external agencies in your work and being the direct link to MARAC for Solace within Bexley.

The Floating Support Worker (FSW) supports victim/survivors of domestic abuse living in safe accommodation, at any level of risk, on a needs-led basis.

About the Role

As the FSW you will carry out risk and needs assessments, safety planning and support planning with survivors and advocate on their behalf with external agencies. You will provide ongoing casework support, including referrals to specialist advice and practical support, such as legal advice around civil and criminal remedies. You will empower survivors with information on their rights and options, demystifying complex statutory systems and dispelling myths perpetuated by perpetrators and wider society and will provide support to maintain accommodation, or to source permanent accommodation as necessary.

Our 24-hour specialist refuge service provides support for homeless women facing multiple disadvantage including but not

• Substance misuse needs, including those who are pre-contemplative mental health and neurodiversity chaotic lifestyles, including those displaying antisocial

• History of offending behaviour and criminal justice.
• History of children being removed from their care and/or at risk of further removals.

The team delivers 121 support in the form of weekly keywork sessions working within a psychologically informed framework to create a support plan with residents and build on skills and competencies, this will be a flexible delivery model and provide medium to high support that offers people a personalised pathway away from homelessness,which builds on their strengths and aspirations for the future.

This is an opportunity to join Refuge as a Domestic Abuse Survivor Advocate to support survivors who are impacted by domestic abuse. You will work closely with victims of domestic abuse from the point of referral, to provide high quality, independent advocacy and support.
