When a person or their family member sustains a spinal cord injury it is a life changing experience. They can feel very isolated and that no one understands what they’re going through.

Back Up’s award winning mentoring service is there to help. We know that peer support can have a life changing impact and our mentoring service facilitates this through matching them with a suitable mentor who will be able to support them over a series of phone calls to reach their goals.

The mentoring service is a growing service which has ambitious aims to connect more people affected by spinal cord injury every year. The Mentoring Assistant is a key part of this growth, ensuring that the service is delivered to a high standard through undertaking administrative responsibilities such as data management, service user engagement and impact measurement.

Mentoring Assistants will be effective communicators who thrive in a fast paced working environment, working efficiently especially with regards to administrative tasks to support the team connect even more people affected by spinal cord injury

Well Connected is seeking someone with community engagement experience, to become our new Community Connector within easy reach of Plymouth, Devon.  This is an exciting opportunity to work with us and alongside our partners to support students’ community placements and learning experiences, enabling students to engage directly with communities.

The role will facilitate and develop a range of programmes which aim to increase students' understanding of the health needs of a variety of population groups, such as people who experience homelessness, vulnerable adults, children and families, etc.

The Community Connector will join a small, yet dynamic team, be self-motivated and able to work independently towards achieving their targets.They must be enthusiastic, kind, approachable and enjoy interacting with students, community organisations and local people and be open to learning, developing their own skills and want to support the learning of others.

While a background in health and/or teaching is not a requirement, you should be interested in promoting wellbeing and passionate about supporting the teaching and learning of the health professionals of the future.

A DBS check will be required for the successful applicant.

We’re looking for someone who has excellent project management, partnership building and senior stakeholder engagement skills to lead on a new area of work. The postholder will be responsible for developing an insight led, student needs centred and operationally achievable international student engagement strategy. You need to ensure that an effective understanding and appreciation of inclusion practice is weaved throughout this work. It is essential that you take a proactive approach to develop your own knowledge of inclusive practice and use this to develop the knowledge and skills of colleagues across the Union in engaging International Students. There is a rough timeline outlined the responsibilities section for this role, and once appointed, we expect you to adjust and tweak as necessary.

If you’re someone who likes taking a methodical approach but is also willing to experiment while the strategy is signed off, essentially taking an action learning approach to this, you will enjoy the level of flexibility and freedom in this role. We’re looking for someone who is able to deliver this work independently and act autonomously, demonstrating their own work. The Students’ Union and the International Society merged in autumn 2023. The International Society is a student facing brand that encompasses the community building aspect of what we’d like to do as part of a broader engagement strategy. We have good levels of engagement from international students in societies and volunteering and those that run for election to be our full-time student officers. We’re not too sure about whether international students are getting what they need in terms of information and guidance on student life, whether there are any differences in educational outcomes and we think student jobs and employment will be important. We’ve got really good teams who do some of this work already, so you’ll be adding to services rather than creating new ones. This means you’ll really be working at the cutting edge of international student engagement work. How exciting!

This is a hybrid role (40% to 80% on site) depending on what’s needed to deliver outcomes in the role. There is good support around our senior leaders from the team, external coaching is available to anyone who requests it, and there are well developed insight, communications, events, student activities and representation functions. This is why it’s the right time for this role to join our organisation and do this work.

Are you a great storyteller with excellent writing skills? Do you have experience in media relations, developing relationships with journalists to secure positive media coverage? Are you passionate about gender, racial and social justice issues? Then this might just be the job for you! 

This is a new role at Wen, with a focus on building Wen's in-house media relations and story gathering capacity while also getting involved in all areas of communications, particularly social media. To help you settle into the role and support your development you will receive mentoring from a PR consultant. 

Part of your role will be visiting Wen's projects and events to gather content, impact stories and case studies for use in the media and on our social media channels. It will also include leading on social media day-to-day, including at Wen events, so you will need experience of running multiple social media channels efficiently.

You will have an interest in Wen’s areas of work and have an understanding of gender, racial and social justice issues at a personal and political level. You will take an inclusive, intersectional feminist and anti-racist approach to your work. This will be vital for engaging on social media and creating stories and content aligned with Wen's values.

Key information

Salary - £35,284 FTE per annum, pro rata (Grade 3)

Contract - 4 days/28 hours per week, Permanent. Tuesday is a core working day for the majority of Wen staff.

Key tasks

Strategic Communication: You will work with the Head of Communications and Engagement to deliver Wen’s Communications Strategy.

Content Creation:  You will actively look for new content ideas and opportunities to collaborate with like-minded individuals/organisations. You will write compelling content, including press releases, articles, blogs and impact stories.​

Media Relations: You will build Wen's in-house media relations capacity, to include developing and delivering media plans, cultivating relationships with journalists and securing positive media coverage in national, local and sector media. You will also brief Wen spokespeople for media opportunities and interviews. 

Social Media: You will lead on the development of a social media strategy, plan and calendar, scheduling organic and paid content and campaigns. You will run Wen's social media channels , engaging with other accounts, communicating Wen’s position on relevant issues.

Digital Comms: You will support Wen's digital communications, including creating content for Wen's website and e-newsletter and help maintain and update Wen's CRM system.

The Philanthropy Team operates as an integral part of the larger Advancement Team, which encompasses Communications and Community Engagement. This collaborative framework involves close coordination with colleagues at all eighteen UWC schools, staff, and volunteers across over 155 UWC national committees, as well as various UWC governance stakeholders.
Joining the Philanthropy Team at UWC International means becoming an essential part of a vast and truly global collective.

Key Responsibilities

1) Overseeing Financial Management, Reporting, and Monitoring (60%):

• Manage the financial aspects of funded scholarship programmes, including budgeting, reporting, and monitoring spending.
• Prepare narrative and financial reports for donors, coordinating with UWC schools.
• Lead the process of collecting and analysing data on scholarship recipient students and refugee students across all UWC schools for donor reporting, brochures and publications.
• Collate invoices from UWC schools, create invoices for donors and process invoices for payment.
• Ensure accurate record-keeping and efficient use of the accounting system.
• Support the improvement of impact tracking for funded programmes.
• Support the philanthropy and finance teams with the annual audit by coordinating information gathering and documentation on funded programmes’ financials.

2) Supporting Student Stewardship for All Funded Programmes (10%):

• Plan and organise annual onboarding and offboarding sessions for IO-managed scholars.
• Develop appropriate information materials for scholars and UWC schools to support timely and quality donor reporting.
• Implement a yearly offboarding survey with scholars, working closely with the Engagement Team.
• Support coordination between UWC schools and national committees during the selection process and pre-departure preparation.

3) Coordinating University Partnerships (10%):

• Coordinate partnerships with universities on behalf of UWC International, working closely with the Senior Adviser, UWC counsellors and EducationTeam.

4) Assisting the Philanthropy Team with Administration incl. Donation Services (20%):

• Manage donation management processes and support donor stewardship processes, including processing online donations through donation platforms and preparing donation acknowledgement letters for donors.
• Maintain data on Raisers’ Edge database and philanthropy dashboard, preparing management updates.
• Coordinate introductions for new philanthropy staff members at UWC schools.
• Oversee subscriptions to databases and respond to inquiries via email.

Person Specification

Experience and skills

• Financial Management and Reporting: Prior experience in financial management, budgeting, reporting, and monitoring, preferably in a nonprofit organisation or educational institution.
• Data Analysis: Experience in collecting, analysing, and presenting data for reporting purposes.

Post Title: Assistant Camp Director, Volunteering

Main Purpose:To lead on Volunteer recruitment, training and engagement and support the Camp Director in the delivery and leadership of safe, fun, residential activity camps and online programmes.

Our free of charge programmes are designed to address the loneliness, isolation and sense of being different that affects the quality of life for children living with serious illness.

We are seeking an Assistant Camp Director to join our Camp Operations team. The postholder will be an essential member of our Camp Leadership Team when camps are in session and will focus on Volunteer recruitment, development and experience.

You are:

• Excited by our mission and eager to make a positive difference in the lives of children and the staff and volunteers who support them.
• An experienced youth programming professional with a background in recruitment, training and development.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

• Attend Over the Wall residential camps (minimum of 4 per year) and virtual camps as part of the operational staff team. Attending camp involves long working hours, including day / evening and weekends, as well as being away from home for up to 11 nights at a time.
• Develop and deliver informative and engaging ‘all camp’ training for volunteers and full-time staff members, underpinned by the principles of therapeutic recreation and challenge by choice.
• Oversee the recruitment and hiring of 300+ volunteers, annually.
• Supportively coach and manage our team of Volunteer Coordinators.
• Design and implement effective feedback mechanisms for volunteers, camp staff, campers and families and deliver effective debriefing sessions at the end of each camp.
• Assist in the direction and supervision of all camp programs which include, but are not limited to, family weekends, summer sessions and virtual camps.
• Work closely with the Operations Team to provide leadership and support for campers, volunteers, and staff.
• Promote and encourage a strong culture of safety within camp & assist in the coordination of emergency procedures.
• Support overall camp budget management with an emphasis on Volunteering.
• In the absence of the Camp Director, take on the leadership of camp.

The Client Support Worker targets those who need the Foodbank on a repeated basis and offers a package of support to address the complex and often overwhelming challenges and crisis situations they are facing.  You will work with clients to give time, advice, advocacy and emotional support as well as providing personalised support.  This could include assisting them to access help with finances, debt, social isolation and other issues and connect them with other local projects which may be relevant. You will also work closely with the referral agencies who issue Foodbank vouchers.

Principal Duties and responsibilities to include:

•  Client Engagement: Sit down with visitors and engage in conversation with them.  Offer a listening ear and signpost clients, as required, to further support using your knowledge of the local environment. 

• Client Support:  Develop individual plans for clients to assist them through next steps.  Act as an advocate where appropriate, assisting with phone calls, form filling and appointments.  Accompany clients to other projects as required.

•  Administration: Understand and complete the administrative processes for referrals and applying for various grants

• Signposting: Proactively explore the local support offering, build relationships and add useful resources to the signposting folder and disseminate to the centre teams regularly

• Centre Culture:  Work alongside the Centre Coordinators and volunteers to make foodbank visitors feel welcome

• Volunteer Support: Support volunteers in centres to increase their skills and knowledge

This is a new role created to assist the small but growing team at SKT with our primary goal of engaging and mobilising residents in the neighbourhood we serve, numbering around 7500 people. SKT will assume management of community and event spaces at the heart of the neighbourhood this year and we are preparing service providers to make room for community voice in shaping local services. Involving residents in shaping their future is central to our purpose, whether by ensuring local assets and amenities work for them, or by influencing service delivery. This makes the Community Engagement Coordinator role an exciting and important addition to the team.

Main Tasks: 

Volunteer Recruitment, Training and Coordination  

• Recruit and maintain a team of twenty active volunteers from the local community to assist in community building initiatives.

• Develop and deliver a volunteer programme to engage the South Kilburn community which will likely include, but not limited to: 

• Community research and consultation 

• Public space improvements (greening, activation etc)

With a focus on removing barriers and reducing stigma surrounding seeking support, our strategy empowers individuals, communities, and faith leaders.

We are looking for an experienced Project Coordinator to join our team and lead the implementation of 'Your Voice Matters.' Collaborating closely with our Director of Support Services and fellow Betknowmore colleagues, you will oversee the delivery of workshops, facilitate focus groups, and participate in community engagement events. Supported by our partnership with The Faiths Forum for London, you will play a pivotal role in fostering relationships within the Black community to maximize the project's impact over the next two years.

This position is primarily home-based, with regular travel across Greater London as required. The role is full-time, offering a competitive salary between £33,000 - £35,000 per annum, dependent on experience and qualifications.
