Passionate about building a country where working-class people are heard, celebrated for our strength and diversity and aren’t held back by our backgrounds.
About us:
RECLAIM is a bold charity that is committed to building a fair and just world for and with all working-class young people. We build knowledge, power, community and solidarity to campaign on the issues that affect them the most. We do this in three ways:
Community - Creating spaces that grow a sense of belonging and solidarity.

Consultancy - Supporting organisations to become class-inclusive.
Our changemaking work includes:
-
We supported young people to successfully campaign for free bus travel for all 16-18 year olds across Greater Manchester. A policy which now benefits 40,000 young people, making 250,000 free journeys per week and saving them and their families an average of over £500 per young person per year.
-
We helped young people highlight and challenge the increasing use of violent and dehumanising language in politics. The campaign gained widespread media coverage and resulted in new commitments from the Speaker, Prime Minister and Leader of the Opposition.
-
Young people we support were at the forefront of highlighting the impact of COVID19 on working-class communities and demanding better recognition of the essential workers keeping the country going during lockdown.
We are seeking a Youth Worker who can work alongside our Campaign Programmes Team with young people in Greater Manchester. Desirable
Has a strong knowledge, appreciation and practical experience of ‘informal education’, which may be supported by a professional qualification.
Has experience of working with young people in a pastoral care and development role.
Not familiar with the term working class?
No problem, lots of people aren't. It means different things to different people but for us at RECLAIM being working-class is characterised by a few key factors:
-
You're on, or grew up on, a low income with limited access to wealth.
-
You don't have many family connections to people with well paid, professional or powerful jobs.
-
You find it harder to 'fit in' in middle-class spaces, interests and conversations.
-
You're proud of your background and want people to see it as a strength, not a weakness
While working-class people have many of these things in common, we're a diverse bunch too. Working-class people are white, black and brown, LGBT+, disabled, recent migrants or refugees or from families who can trace their roots in the UK back generations, of various religions or none, women, men and non-binary. We're many things but we share the experience of growing up facing those four factors above.
At RECLAIM we don't mind if people publicly identify as working-class or not, that's completely up to them.
You don’t need to be working-class to do this role or work at RECLAIM. Our work has always involved brilliant working-class allies. We do, though, especially encourage applications from people with direct experience of being marginalised by class and/or some other factor as we work to ensure our staff team is diverse as the young people we are here to support.
To apply:
Please send a CV and cover letter outlining how you meet the person specification via Charity Job application link.
The closing date for applications is Sunday 23rd June 2024 at 10pm.
If you have questions or would like an informal conversation about the role please get in touch via the RECLAIM website.
First interviews will take place on 26th and 27th June (AM - both days)
Second interviews will take place on 3rd July in Manchester.
Unfortunately due to being a very small team, we are unable to notify or offer feedback to unsuccessful applicants in the initial stages. If you have not heard from us by Tuesday 25th June then it is likely that your application has been unsuccessful. We thank you for your interest in working for RECLAIM.
We build knowledge, power, community and solidarity with working-class young people to campaign on the issues that affect them the most.
The client requests no contact from agencies or media sales.

Background
Chapter One is a dynamic, growing charity with a vision of a world in which all children have the literacy skills needed to thrive. Our mission is to close the reading gap by providing children with one-to-one support at the time they need it most. We work in eleven areas/regions of the UK and will support 3000 children in 2023-24.
Our unique Online Reading Volunteer programme pairs struggling five to seven-year old (KS1) readers with reading support volunteers who are working professionals. The volunteer ask is very focused: readers commit 30 minutes a week to read with a child using a bespoke digital platform for an entire academic year. The results are transformative, boosting children's reading confidence and ability.
From a school perspective, online reading volunteers provide direct, meaningful literacy support for up to 10 pupils per class. The programme is particularly suitable for communities where it might be challenging to find parents and other volunteers who can commit to physically visiting schools to boost reading.

We are the national body for careers education in England, delivering support to schools and colleges to deliver modern, 21st-century careers education.
The Careers & Enterprise Company is a great place to work. We operate within a fast-paced and collaborative environment. We are brought together by one thing: our passion to ensure young people get the best possible start in life and are supported to find their best next step.
Do you want to be part of a mission-driven team focused on transforming young people’s lives? If so, we’d love to hear from you!
Role Summary
In 2020/21, the Careers & Enterprise Company appointed its first ever Youth Board Member to the strategic board of directors, to give young people a decision-making voice. The CEC subsequently established a national Youth Advisory Group, to establish and embed an organisation wide approach to capturing Youth Voice, both for the purpose of driving impact and measuring the value of our work. This work has already had a huge impact on the company, and we are looking to embed Youth Voice still further into our work at a more strategic level.
The Youth Advisory Group has three primary functions across The Careers & Enterprise Company, to:
- Govern: challenge CEC’s work to consider youth voice
- Enrich: focus on the future of CEC's strategic direction
- Advise: mobilising their voice in key projects and priorities
The Careers & Enterprise Company is seeking to recruit an 18-month fixed term Youth Engagement Officer to support the administration, facilitation and delivery of youth engagement and participation across our organisation. The role will sit within the Education Development Team and work closely with our Youth Advisory Group and Youth Board members. You will work collaboratively with colleagues across the organisation to champion youth voice and deliver high quality youth participation activities.
This new role has an exciting remit to develop practice, to innovate in youth voice practice, to lead on the operational delivery of the Youth Advisory Group and support with the strategic direction of this work. Reporting directly to the Education Manager responsible for youth voice, but also working effectively across the directorate and across the company, you will manage the delivery of various aspects of our operations including, but not limited to:
- Effective project management – to ensure that CEC’s YAG has the greatest impact possible, you will work with colleagues from across the business, including at times the Careers Hub Network and put in place the right tools and processes for effective delivery of all elements of the youth voice. This may include establishing and managing relationships across teams, efficient reporting procedures and may extend to other areas of CEC’s ever evolving programme of work.
- Innovate and design – CEC’s work, and the careers education landscape, is continually evolving. Responding to changing needs of the company, skills of the YAG members and proactively planning for project pivots, will be essential to success in this role. You will look for creative ways to strengthen youth voice across the company.
The Youth Engagement Officer will support the ongoing delivery of our Youth Advisory Group to ensure that young people bring their lived experience to meaningfully and authentically shape our work: from shaping our priorities and projects, through to supporting us to guide policy makers.
To apply, please visit our website via the apply button, complete the application form, and cover letter and upload a copy of your CV (removing all personal details).
Please ensure you detail in your cover letter:
- How you meet the experience, skills and competency criteria detailed in the job profile.
