The Role
We are looking for a motivated and detail-focused Finance Officer to join our Support Services Directorate. You will play a key role in maintaining NEA’s financial systems, supporting accurate reporting and ensuring the organisation has the strong financial foundations needed to deliver its mission.

What you’ll be doing
· Maintain accurate and up‑to‑date accounting records

This is a hybrid role based at NEA’s Newcastle office, with a minimum of one day per week on site.

Job Purpose
Sequence ME & Long Covid is one of the most ambitious whole-genome sequencing studies ever undertaken into ME and Long Covid, co-led by Action for ME. Building on the success of DecodeME, this proposed £20 million study will use large-scale, long-read whole-genome sequencing to analyse the entire genetic code of 9,000 people with ME and 9,000 people with Long Covid - making it the world's largest 'long-read' whole-genome sequencing study of any disease.
Current funding supports project mobilisation, partnership development, and the development of the Long Covid arm of the study, including agreeing case definitions and gathering expressions of interest from people with Long Covid. Phase 2 has recently been confirmed, backed by £4.75m from the UK government and a further £174,414 from the WE&ME Foundation, and will focus on sequencing 6,000 ME/CFS samples previously collected through DecodeME using Oxford Nanopore's long-read sequencing technology, running alongside Phase 1.
You will play a pivotal role supporting the Sequence ME & Long Covid project in several different ways. Working closely with the project's management team and other team members, you will help ensure the smooth day-to-day running of this landmark study, providing administrative support to the various people and partners involved in delivering it.
As a self-starter, you will manage a range of tasks including meeting scheduling, taking meeting minutes, preparing governance documents, event administration, and broader project support - no two days will be the same.

What the job involves

This role sits within the Sporting Events sub-team, supporting people taking on third party fundraising events such as the TCS London Marathon, a cycling event or our own event, March for Men. Day-to-day, you’ll manage our inbox and proactively reach out to new fundraisers to offer support and guidance, as well as delivering core processes like thanking, fulfilment and volunteer management in collaboration with other internal teams.
You’ll also work with our Communications teams. This supports the planning and delivery of our activity. You'll help engage with our digital adverts and identify compelling supporter stories. This helps to raise the profile of our fundraising activity, as well as prostate cancer and Prostate Cancer UK.

You’ll have the drive and eagerness to provide crucial support to our sector-leading programme of events which generated over £41m of gross income in 2025-6. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone early in their fundraising career to grow, develop and gain valuable skills and experience in a fundraising role within a progressive and innovative organisation. You’ll be part of a passionate and high energy team working hard to create a world where no man dies from prostate cancer.
You’ll make a positive and valuable contribution to the success of the Events and Community Fundraising team through excellent communication skills and being proactive in supporting our event participants. You’ll have a strong eye for detail, customer-centric mindset and will be able to prioritise a busy workload to ensure we are able to consistently deliver excellent supporter care. You’ll be self-motivated, well organised and have a ‘can-do’ approach to the role.

How and where we work
Colleagues attend the office at least four days per month (pro rata for part-time colleagues) to collaborate, build relationships, and support projects and decision-making. You can choose where to work the rest of the time. Travel to the office is a commute, so we pay our own travel costs.
Additional in-person attendance will be required during your first few months for induction and training, to support you to learn the role and get to know colleagues.

The Role:
Reporting to the Community and Events Manager, you will lead on a portfolio of community fundraising activity, including ownership of the Hospice’s In Memory fundraising programme. You’ll create thoughtful, supporter focused journeys for people with a close personal connection to St Luke’s, ensuring every interaction is sensitive, engaging and impactful.
