About the Advisory Panel
The Advisory Panel is a meeting of the four Council’s committees (Companies, Education, Registration, and Standards) in plenary session. They are established by statute for the purpose of giving advice and assistance to Council (whether or not in response to a request from them) on:
- matters relating to business registrants other than matters required by the Opticians Act to be referred to the Investigation Committee, the Registration Appeals, Committee or the Fitness to Practise Committee;
- matters relating to optical training, education, and assessment;
- matters relating to registration, other than matters required by the Opticians Act to be considered by the Registration Appeals Committee; and
- matters relating to the standards of conduct and performance expected of registrants or those seeking admission to the register.
Time Commitment and Remuneration
This role is part time with a commitment of approximately 2-3 days per year, including time spent preparing for meetings. Meetings will usually take place via MS Teams but may on occasion be held at the GOC Offices in London or other suitable venues.
Members are paid up to £185 per meeting. This is taxable and subject to National Insurance (NI) contributions. This is in line with our member fees policy and member fee schedule.

Role Responsibilities
Spear Programme
- Support in group coaching sessions of up to 12 young people. Coaching them around skills and mindsets to support them in returning to work or education and equipping them with the skills to stay there.
- You’ll be given all the training needed to deliver Spear through our professional coaching methodology.
- This coaching continues for Spear Career – the 6 months’ worth of follow-up support. You will oversee a caseload of trainees and support them in work, beyond the initial Foundation Phase of the programme.

Purpose
Our Immigration Team works closely with Birmingham City University (BCU) to run the Immigration Law Student Clinic, a key source of free accredited immigration advice for people in Birmingham who cannot afford legal support.
The role involves supervising students as they research and prepare legal advice, coordinating day‑to‑day clinic activity, and supporting casework within CELC’s immigration team. You will recruit, train, and mentor students, ensuring they have an excellent student experience and helping them develop practical legal skills while ensuring clients receive an excellent service.
Responsibilities
Working closely with Birmingham City University the Law Clinic Supervisor will:
- Recruit and select students for involvement in the clinic
- Undertaking inductions with new students, in line with the Law Centre's Clinic practices ,including training on CELC systems and processes
- Develop and maintain student training manuals, policies, template letters, referral forms etc.
- Assess client cases prior to allocation to students
- Manage overall clinic calendar, allocating client cases to students

About the Department
The Church of England Foundation for Educational Leadership was set up in 2017 with the mission to 'develop inspirational leaders who are called, connected, committed to deliver the Church of England vision for education'. Since then, it has operated a wide range of leadership development programmes, networks, research, conference and events, and published a range of key leadership resources to equip school leaders at every level to put their vision into practice.
Part of this provision has been as a very successful national provider of NPQ programmes. Beginning in 2017 with the delivery of NPQs for Headteachers, our suite of programmes has now expanded to include programmes for Specialist Teachers, Senior Leaders and also Executive Leaders. More recently, a partnership between the Church of England and the Catholic Education Service is also enabling programmes to be delivered more widely as together our school provision represents around 34% of the sector.
In 2025, the department will launch three new national programmes: Flourishing Leaders, Flourishing Teachers, and Flourishing ECTs (in partnership with UCL). These programmes respond to growing demand for high-quality, values-led professional learning and represent a significant expansion of our work across the education sector.
About the Role
As Programme Lead for Flourishing ECTs, you will oversee the successful delivery of the Flourishing ECTE programme: a professional learning offer we have developed at the Church of England in partnership with UCL.
You will ensure these programmes are delivered with excellence across a wide network of regional partners, supporting facilitators to create high-impact learning experiences for school leaders and teachers. We are looking for an ecologist to drive forward Biodiversity Enhancement potential in Scotland, helping to ensure this plays a part in bolstering Scotland’s ability to tackle the nature crisis. Sitting at the heart of our operational involvement with Biodiversity Enhancement, this role will help to ensure that Biodiversity Enhancement delivers bigger, better and more joined up nature restoration. The post holder will work closely with SSEN Transmission and RSPB Scotland teams to find, assess and establish a pipeline of projects for delivery on RSPB Nature Reserves.
This is a 3-year post that can be based anywhere in Scotland and will involve travel across our Scottish reserves.
What's the role about?
The core responsibilities of this role are:
- Assessing on-reserve projects against SSEN Transmission’s Biodiversity Enhancement metric and RSPB Scotland’s existing ecological priorities
- Working closely with both organisations to develop suitable Biodiversity Enhancement projects that deliver priority nature conservation objectives, within the requirements of the Scottish planning system.
- Advising both organisations on ecological aspects of potential projects to maximise nature conservation benefit
- Developing Habitat Management Plans and evaluating the expected ecological performance of projects.
- Identifying habitat management revisions through observation and analysis of ongoing management.
Essential skills, knowledge and experience:
- Using net gain biodiversity metrics (ideally the SSEN metric) to design tangible habitat restoration projects, and knowledge of their application in a Scottish context.
- Use of UKHab (Phase 1, NVC also desirable) to carry out surveys on a broad range of habitat and species, to a consistent high standard.
- Developing habitat management plans to deliver ecological goals.
- Flexibility and solutions focused - a strong desire and ability to find a way forward when existing approaches aren’t working.
- Collaboration in multi-disciplinary project teams and the skills required to maintain and develop good relations across many stakeholders.
- Personal time management and prioritisation to meet project deadlines and external partner requirements.
- Record keeping and data management using databases/mapping software such as ArcGIS, QGIS and Merlin (RSPB bespoke system), plus standard ecological survey software.
- Written and verbal communication skills to compile metric toolkit assessments, habitat management and restoration plans, monitoring reports, conveying technical information verbally to stakeholders.
- Ability to confidently and safely access and work in remote areas across Scotland. A UK driving licence is essential, as many reserves are not served by public transport.

- Experience of nature reserve management planning and design of wildlife habitat creation projects, with a good understanding of conservation land management techniques and constraints.

About the role
We are recruiting for a Policy Officer to join on a full-time basis, working 35 hours per week, on a permanent contract. This is a home-based role, with occasional travel required to attend team meetings.

This role is key to supporting Alzheimer’s Society’s ambitions to drive major system and policy change in diagnosis, care and treatment across England, Northern Ireland and Wales at an exciting time in dementia policy. Evidence-based, collaborative, engaging and innovative policymaking will be central to everything the Policy Officer does.
As Policy Officer you will play an important role in determining what the Society thinks about the big issues affecting people affected by dementia. Through robust scoping and policy development, you will help to identify the action needed to affect change and help ensure our influencing activity is evidence-driven, timely and relevant across the three nations in which we work – nationally and locally.
You will be an expert policy advisor to colleagues across the Society and support Policy Managers to deliver against agreed integrated plans, including helping to monitor progress and performance and working with others to gather evidence, insight and data to underpin our policy work. Key to the success of this role is engaging others in the policy development process, sharing analysis, opinion and insight to inspire high-quality, dynamic policymaking.
First stage interviews for this role have been provisionally scheduled to take place via MS Teams on Tuesday 31st March. This will likely be followed by an in-person second interview on Thursday 9th April.
About you
Joining us, you will have experience working in health research or medical sciences policy or equivalent knowledge or qualification (e.g. degree in a relevant science/health discipline). You’ll also have worked in a complex policy environment, and you’ll have a sound understanding of the wider political environment, preferably in relation to health and care. You’ll have experience involving patients, service users and/or those living with long-term health conditions in your work.
Crucially, you will be a team player, naturally collaborative, with good attention to detail and be curious and challenging of the status quo. You will be a good communicator with the ability to use written/verbal communication skills to build positive relationships with stakeholders and produce high-quality and accessible policy content. This includes translating highly complex data and developments into insightful commentary and recommendations.

About Adolescent Health Study
The Adolescent Health Study (AHS) is an ambitious new UKRI-funded initiative to establish a prospective, longitudinal population study that will generate a globally leading open science data platform and research resource. AHS aims to recruit at least 100,000 young people from across the UK and to follow their mental and physical health and wellbeing over at least 10 years. It plans to collect data through questions and measures; to obtain bio-samples for a wide range of genomic and other high-throughput assays; and to capture linked data relevant to health and wellbeing from participants’ health, education and other administrative records. There will be a strong emphasis on engaging with and involving young people, schools, parents and other relevant stakeholders in the design and delivery of the study, as well as on including young people that represent as wide as possible a range of backgrounds, experiences and characteristics. AHS will focus on enabling a wide range of research, including studies of the critical biological and social developments that occur during the transition from childhood to adulthood and the determinants of both mental and physical health and wellbeing in adolescents and young adults.
Purpose of the post
The Research Officer will play a key role in supporting the scientific foundation, development, and coordination of AHS. The post holder will focus initially on supporting the development of the AHS pilot, contributing as required to methods selection, co-development of materials and assessment processes, writing of protocols and ethics submissions and preliminary testing of processes. Activities will involve conducting comprehensive literature reviews, supporting the development of piloting tools and protocols, engagement with schools, adolescents and parents, and addressing operational and logistical considerations necessary for successful delivery. The position is essential to ensuring the pilot and future study are grounded in robust evidence and implemented effectively.
