Our Communications Officer will play an essential role at a key moment for IVAR, with communications at the heart of our new strategy. Charities are facing mounting pressures and ongoing complexities, and IVAR’s work has potential for the greatest impact. We are looking for someone who will help us meet this potential: working together with the Director of Communications to make our research clear, accessible and compelling; with the aim of sparking conversations; inspiring action; and strengthening movements like our Open and Trusting network. We expect you to bring creativity, energy and curiosity to how we tell stories, explore new tools and formats, and connect more people with IVAR’s mission.

British Heart Foundation (BHF) is seeking an experienced and motivated Nurse to join our Clinical Team and play a high impact role, using their clinical expertise to improve heart health.
As a Senior Cardiac Nurse, you’ll be an expert clinical resource, providing clinical oversight and governance for public‑facing campaigns, health information and digital content. You’ll work closely with colleagues across Medical and our Marketing, Fundraising and Engagement team to ensure clinical accuracy and high standards throughout. Following training, you’ll also act as a media spokesperson, contributing to press statements and interviews across print, broadcast and social media.
The role will support BHF’s Heart Helpline and Genetic Information Service, offering evidence‑based information and compassionate support directly to the public. You will build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders and help protect and enhance BHF’s clinical reputation.
Working arrangements
Please note this is an 18-month fixed-term contract.
This is a blended role, where your work will be dually located between your home and at least one day a week at our London offices, flexibility on this will be required and the day attending a BHF office won't necessarily be the same each week.
There may also be travel or out of hours work required occasionally, for press work, project work e.g. to attend filming for campaigns or HM live webinars.
About you
An NMC registered nurse you’ll have extensive NHS experience and knowledge of its workings, and will be currently working at AfC band six or higher (or equivalent) or have done so in the last year.
Having previously completed study at degree level (6), or proven equivalent, you’ll have an in-depth knowledge of a wide range of cardiac and circulatory conditions and of lifestyle issues relating to coronary heart disease. You’ll have extensive current clinical experience as a cardiac nurse in secondary and/or primary care, working in heart failure and/or congenital heart disease services an advantage.
A proactive member of the clinical support team, you’ll have excellent organisation, time management and customer service skills. You’ll have excellent communication skills, able to provide and receive feedback, as well as be able to translate complex medical information or critically appraise research for communication to a lay audience.
With strong leadership qualities, as well as understanding the importance of teamwork, you’ll be able to work in an agile way, quick to adapt to new concepts, teams and ways of working, prioritising and managing your own workload with ease.

Interview process
1st stage interviews will be held, via MS Teams, on Wednesday 29th and Thursday 30th April, this will incorporate a short telephone scenario task.
Successful candidates will then be invited to a 2nd stage interview, held in person at our London offices, on Wednesday 6th May, where there will be a presentation element to prepare for ahead of time.

This Head of Communications and Marketing role is available on a permanent contract and full-time or part-time basis (0.8 FTE/4 days per week). This is a hybrid role where you will be mainly based from home. The postholder will be based in London for monthly co-working days with the team and meetings with external clients when needed. The salary range for this role is £46,000-£50,000 FTE (dependant on level of experience).
In this role you will report to the Director of Philanthropy and Communications, and together, provide strategic leadership to shape and share the charity's story, driving engagement across key audiences to support their mission and vision.
You will work closely with the Recruitment Director and their team to shape marketing strategy to recruit new teachers through digital channels. You will oversee and maintain the website, blogs, annual impact report, films, and core content. You will develop and grow the Now Teach brand, ensuring brand consistency across all channels.
You will manage a significant budget and play a key role in maximising return on investment. You will create and monitor communications metrics and KPls. You will provide media support by managing an outsourced press office to secure targeted coverage aligned with the charity's strategic priorities. You will identify and develop new opportunities in line with their strategy. You will also own and use the marketing automation platform (Active Campaign), automating marketing activity.
To be successful in this role, you be a proactive and hands-on individual with demonstratable experience in a strategic marketing and/or communications role. You will have a proven track record of communicating a cause using a range of communications tactics and engaging external audiences. You will be comfortable with designing and implementing ideas to support with developing and improving strategy.
You will have strong communication skills, with the ability to work with different internal departments, external contractors and consultants. You will also have experience in line management. You will have strong project management skills and experience using marketing automation platforms and other multichannel marketing technologies.

About the Advocacy team:
The Advocacy & Government Relations team leads the charity in influencing decision-makers and those whose policies, practices and decisions affect cat welfare across the UK. The small, highly motivated team works to influence legislators (national and devolved governments), professional organisations and corporates. The team has successfully influenced the law on microchipping, pet theft and commercial kitten sales in England and worked with the Scottish Government to regulate cat breeding and rehoming activities. The team also runs digital campaigns as part of its strategy.
What we’re looking for in our Assistant Advocacy & Government Relations Officer:
- lives within a commutable (within one hour) distance of Westminster
- experience working in advocacy, public affairs or influencing work (which may include campaigns) and knowledge of UK political systems
- proven experience extracting relevant information from political monitoring sources
- strong administration skills, including project and spreadsheet management
- experience, or an understanding, of dealing with high profile/ VIP individuals e.g Ministers, MSPs, MLAs, MPs, etc
- experience completing online and desk research
- experience or understanding of event organisation
- experience preparing PowerPoint presentations
- proven ability to multi-task and work independently on own initiative, accurately and under pressure
- agile, happy to be hands-on and help in all areas of the advocacy team
- confident using Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Powerpoint, Zoom and MS Teams)
- knowledge of our work and campaigns and an understanding of the charity sector

The role
Reporting to the CEO, this new role will ensure MediCinema’s financial strength, operational excellence and people-centred culture as we consolidate our recent growth and proceed with our plans for more sites across the UK. You will lead finance, HR and organisational operations, overseeing systems, compliance and high-quality corporate services that support our national expansion.
From financial planning and audit, to overseeing IT and digital development, to ensuring a solid HR strategy and people practices, you will ensure the infrastructure behind our therapeutic services remains robust, efficient and future-ready. A hands-on leader (supported by external experts), you will bring clarity, rigour and creativity to a purpose-led charity striving to improve patient experiences across the NHS.
About you
We are seeking a collaborative, ambitious and hands-on leader with:
Experience in the charity, health or social impact sectors, as well as an accounting qualification, are desirable but not essential.
