About the role

As our Senior Finance & Operations Officer, you will be at the heart of our organisation’s success. Working closely with the Director, Finance and Operations, you will help to manage financial processes, streamline operations, and ensure both our UK and EU teams are properly resourced to drive our mission forward. You will interact daily with a broad range of stakeholders in the UK and the EU including senior level staff, external consultants and suppliers in the while also working closely with Finance, HR & IT colleagues in the US.

Key responsibilities

Financial Management (30%)

• Support on day-to-day financial activities including financial reporting, accounts payable and accounts receivable.
• Develop and implement best practices to optimise operational efficiency and effectiveness.
• Collaborate with the team to develop and monitor project budgets.
• Support decision-making through insightful financial analysis.

Operational Support (40%)

• Be the first point of contact for all enquiries from the campaigns and fundraising teams in the UK and EU.

Contracts Lifecycle Management (30%)

• Oversee the lifecycle of all supplier contracts: creation, submission and signing. (Legal contract knowledge is not required.)

You will be a confident, dynamic individual with a can-do attitude who has a proven track record of juggling competing priorities and meeting deadlines in a fast-paced environment.  The role is varied and has a significant financial element so strong numeracy skills, a solid knowledge of financial management principles paired with good communications skills are important. Hillside Clubhouse is recruiting for a mental health employment specialist to join our dynamic Camden team supporting people with mental health conditions to gain and retain employment.  The role is working within the nationally recognised IPS (Individual Placement and Support) model within an NHS secondary care mental health team based in the heart of Camden.

Who we are: 

Hillside Clubhouse is a co-produced mental health employment support charity working across Camden and Islington. We support people with mental health conditions into training, volunteering, and employment opportunities. People can access our services via our Clubhouse, where they can share their skills and expertise with others and support the running of the charity.  Alternatively, they can receive support out in the community from one of our employment specialists based within primary and secondary care.

The Role: 

The role is within our IPS Service and will be based within a Camden NHS secondary care team. As an IPS Employment Specialist, you’ll play an important role in supporting people with lived mental health experience on their recovery journey by supporting them back into paid employment. This is an opportunity to offer ongoing support, to motivate and provide people with hope, while developing the tools and skills required to recover, ultimately transforming their lives.

A variety of skills are needed in this post including but not limited to -  a strong ability to develop empathy and rapport with clients; a determined approach to seeking out job opportunities; a person centric-approach to working with people; strong communications skills to motivate clients; strong administrative capabilities and an attention to detail engage with prospective employers via business development and face-to-face meetings, and to be able to challenge some perceptions around mental health. 

The postholder will be directly employed by Hillside Clubhouse but work under an Honorary Contract from Camden and Islington Foundation Trust.  They will be managed directly by the IPS Operations Manager but work as team member within the clinical team. The role is dynamic and involves being integrated in a clinical team, working within the community, and we operate a flexible working policy where working from home is also permitted up to two days per week.

Overall aim: 

To enable people with mental health issues to gain and sustain competitive employment by working within the evidence based Individual Placement and Support (IPS) model.

Primary Duties: 

• Manage a caseload of up to twenty clients and work within and apply the 8 principles of IPS in all aspects of role. 
• To work with and enable clients to find work using a mix of conventional approaches and employer engagement. 
• To generate ongoing referrals from the clinical team and to manage those effectively. 
• To engage directly and collaboratively with the clinical team while maintaining the existing multi-disciplinary approach to assisting clients seeking work. 
• To report and meet regularly with clinical team service managers and the IPS Operations manager, and to participate in both casework and clinical supervision from IPS Operations and clinical team services managers. 
• To be an active member of both the clinical and Hillside teams 
• To be responsible for own management of administrative duties tied to both Hillside Clubhouse and clinical team and adhering to existing Hillside and NHS protocols. 
• Source job opportunities specific to client needs from a range of sources including those advertised via current and conventional means, as well as through contact with local and Pan London employers. 
• To build up a network of employers to secure available and future vacancies. 
• To maintain existing and seek out new relationships with a range of external agencies of use to the post. 
• To provide ongoing support to both client and employers (where appropriate) when starting work and until such time as the client makes the decision to end the support provided. 
• To work with clients to collaboratively manage job searching activities and engagement with the service. 
• To manage and meet all KPIs, statistics and documentation as required, including but not limited to: referrals, first meetings, job outcomes, job sustainments of 6, 13 and 26 weeks, and work retention.

About the role

This vacancy is for a University Access Officer to work across two schools in Greenwich, London. Our schools are shown on a map The Access Project schools on our website.

The University Access Officer works with school staff at all levels, volunteer tutors, and with the rest of The Access Project’s team to ensure that the delivery of the programme is optimised.

Role responsibilities

• Engage with students in school and enrol them onto the programme

• Match students with volunteer tutors

• Monitor student attendance to tutorials and devise innovative solutions to encourage attendance

• Assess student progress towards being able to make successful university applications

• Upload information onto the Salesforce database (training is provided)

• Monitor the impact of tutorials, and intervene as appropriate

• Build and manage relationships with volunteer tutors to ensure they have a positive experience of the programme

• Manage tutor relationships and attendance to tutorials through weekly monitoring of systems, emailing and making phone calls.

• Work with school staff to ensure their cooperation and timely completion of activities contributing to the smooth running of the programme

• Chair and present at termly school meetings with Senior Management to report on programme progress.

• University Access Officers support the volunteering team by helping to deliver tutor training sessions, and attending university site visits, which take place on occasional Saturdays and weekday evenings (paid time off is provided).

The role

Our Graduate Internship Programme provides opportunities for recent graduates to participate in all aspects of the Commonwealth Foundation and gain experience, strengthen their knowledge and develop their skills.

What we offer

We offer interns a salary of £2,000 per month (equivalent to £24,000 per annum) for a six-month fixed term internship contract. Annual leave is calculated at 30 days per year (pro-rata) inclusive of public holidays and the Foundation’s own designated leave days.

We are currently operating a flexible working policy which requires all staff to work from our central London office at least five days per fortnight including every Wednesday. Applicants must be able to affirm their capacity and willingness to work within our policy.

Our aim is to help our interns to their next position. To that end, we provide guidance on future opportunities as well as assistance with refining CVs and undertaking interviews. There is no expectation of a role with the Foundation at the end of the internship.

About Unlocked

Unlocked Graduates exists to break cycles of reoffending, with particular focus on breaking the link between disadvantage and reoffending. Currently prison is not a place which successfully does this: the average prisoner has 16 previous convictions and 48 percent of prisoners reoffend within a year of release. Role Purpose

The Community Engagement Manager (Maternity Cover) role will be a critical piece of our Community Programmes team, which provides support to founders at every stage of their startup journey. The Community Programme offering includes a roster of events including panels, masterclasses and workshops, as well as mentoring and coaching opportunities, and peer-to-peer engagement opportunities. We work with an exciting range of partners across the private and third sectors to connect underrepresented founders to networks and capital that will help launch and grow their mission-driven businesses.

Graduate Community Engagement

• Maintain the community engagement strategy for enhanced engagement between founders and a more cohesive founder journey across all stages

About the role:

This fundraiser will work closely with the Heads of Departments and academics in the Departments of Psychiatry and Clinical Neurosciences. The post will focus primarily on funding for research, academic posts, scholarships and infrastructure related to Neuroscience which includes Mental Health and neurological disease (e.g. Motor Neurone Disease, Dementia, Parkinson’s, Stroke and Epilepsy). The fundraiser will work on special projects including the possible major capital redevelopment of the Warneford site. The opportunity

We are seeking to recruit a Suicide Prevention Therapist to support men in suicidal crisis at our centre in Liverpool. We are looking for an experienced mental health professional or therapist with demonstrable interest in suicide prevention. We will work with you and train you to develop your therapeutic skills to offer our collaborative semi-structured psychologically informed intervention. You will support the centre user and their supporter(s) to recover from the suicidal crisis and maintain their safety. You will report to a Senior Suicide Prevention Therapist.

This appointment is part of our growth as a charity. The successful candidate will join an experienced supportive team and will gradually build a caseload supporting four men in suicidal crisis per day to meet the growth of referral partnerships and increased awareness raising in Liverpool.

The Charity

James’ Place exists to stop men dying by suicide. We opened our first centre in 2018 in Liverpool, the first of its kind in the UK, in 2022 we launched our second centre in London, and this year we opened our third centre in Newcastle. To date, we have supported over 1500 men and delivered over 7000 sessions of our life-saving intervention. James’ Place is a therapy centre for men who are experiencing a suicidal crisis, and it was set up to make the experience of finding help as easy as possible. It offers men a brief, intensive, therapeutic intervention in a safe environment. Men who walk through the door at James’ Place will be in a space where they feel valued and respected.   

Building on the success of our centres in Liverpool, London, and Newcastle, we are now expanding our model to reach more men in suicidal crisis. Our aim is to have five centres open across England by 2026.

About this role

This role is an opportunity to participate in the global movement to protect the natural world; meeting and supporting incredible communities and organisations driving change to secure a sustainable future. You will be supporting our partners and carrying out grant administration in the Amphibian and Congo Basin Programmes, for which proficiency in both French and English is essential.

The role will be a fundamental part of Synchronicity Earth’s Programmes team (currently a team of seven people), working to help develop and grow the support we provide to our partners (grantees) across our programmes. Please note that first-stage interviews for this role will be conducted in both French and English.

Specific responsibilities will include the following:

• Manage some grantee partner relationships, including building trust and openness, identifying capacity needs, administrating grants, monitoring progress and fulfilling reporting requirements.
• Provide administrative support across the Programmes Team with grant management e.g. preparing of grant paperwork, reviewing partner reports and checklists (proposals), monitoring pipelines.
• Undertake research in focal areas for the Programmes Team, such as identifying intervention points and opportunities to make a difference in conservation.
• Contribute to communication products, including donor reports and applications, to support Synchronicity Earth’s fundraising and philanthropic goals.
• Produce and contribute to board papers and discussions.
• Update and undertake due diligence.
• Manage and maintain partner database, including data entry, preparing reports and basic analysis.
• Contribute to the development of Synchronicity Earth’s processes and systems around partner management and due diligence.

About us

Synchronicity Earth is a UK-based, global environmental charity which funds work that aims to make our planet a better place to live for all its inhabitants.

We are a medium-sized charity which supports partners working to protect less well-known species and ecosystems around the world that receive less attention but face the greatest threats. We do this through our Conservation Programmes, which identify, fund, and support organisations with a focus on: Amphibians, Asian Species, Congo Basin, Biocultural Diversity, Freshwater, and Ocean. We also support work across two other areas: the More than Carbon initiative, a portfolio of climate and biodiversity projects targeted at corporate donors; and the Synchronicity Portfolio, which aims to foster systemic change to promote a greater focus on biodiversity conservation within different sectors. Our partners are mostly organisations embedded within their local communities, and we often support work which also considers social impacts such as women’s health and empowerment, engagement with Indigenous Peoples and local communities, and sustainable livelihoods (e.g., small-scale fisheries) in addition to wildlife conservation.

Skills and experience required

Essential

• Proficient written and spoken English equivalent to C1 or C2 level.
• Proficient written and spoken French equivalent to C1 or C2 level.
• Bachelor’s degree or three or more years’ work experience in a relevant area. This could be lived experience, volunteering, or work experience related to sectors such as biodiversity conservation, social justice, environmental protection, community organizing, or engagement with political and social movements.
• Demonstrable interest in ecology, endangered species and biodiversity conservation, social justice, or community organising.
• Proven ability to produce high-quality written materials.
• Computer literacy.

Desirable

• Experience in Africa (especially lived experience in West or Central Africa).
• Some understanding of community- and rights-based approaches.
• Willingness to undertake occasional travel both within the UK and overseas.
• Desire to work across a range of conservation issues and to undertake a diverse role.

Reporting, location, and work hours

This position is a permanent full-time position that is based in the Synchronicity Earth offices in Central London, with the option for hybrid office/home working if the successful applicant wishes with 2 days a week in the office (laptop would be provided for home working). The successful candidate must be already eligible to work in the UK.

Annual leave

25 days per year for a full-time position (in addition to public holidays), adjusted for part-time. We also run an employer-supported volunteering programme, where employees may take additional time-off (2 days per annum) to volunteer for community organisations and other charities (in accordance with our policy).

Review process: The application process will have three stages. Following anonymized review of applications, first-stage candidates (including qualifying GIS candidates) will either be invited to a short zoom call (about 20 minutes) or asked to complete a short assessment. Up to six applicants will then be invited to a second-stage interview in person at our London offices with three members of our team. From these applicants, up to three people will be invited to a third-stage interview with our Head of Conservation Programmes and Senior Programme Officer. There will also be an opportunity for third-stage candidates to meet two members of Synchronicity Earth staff informally to get to know the team and what it is like to work for Synchronicity Earth.

The first-stage interview/assessment will aim to establish your proficiency in both English and French, and to understand your background and motivation for applying to this role. The second-stage interview will aim to understand your prior experience, your values, and what transferable skills you bring to the role.
