Job description

About The Connection at St Martin’s

We believe that no one should have to sleep rough on London’s streets, and that everyone should get the support they need to find a place to call home. We get to know every person we work with, understanding what they need to recover, helping them build on their strengths, and supporting them to find their own way home. Help us make London a city where no one sleeps rough on our streets.

London’s diversity is its biggest asset and we strive to ensure our workforce reflects London’s diversity at all levels. We welcome applications from everyone regardless of age, gender, gender identity, gender expression, ethnicity, sexual orientation, faith or disability.

We particularly encourage applications from candidates with lived experience of homelessness who we believe are an essential asset in our sector.

We are committed to being an inclusive employer and welcome the opportunity to consider flexible working arrangements.

About the Role

You will be part of a new 24-hour supported housing service in Wandsworth for 15 people experiencing homelessness and severe and multiple disadvantage as part of a six month pilot, accepting referrals from across Southwest London. Developed with subregional colleagues, it fills a strategic gap for people experiencing homelessness and severe and multiple disadvantage, including abuse, poor physical and mental health, substance use, offending and social exclusion. For these individuals engagement with services is creating a persistent barrier to their full assessment, support and plan to access services and move into longer term accommodation.

We are seeking a day support worker to join the service which provides a therapeutic environment in which individuals feel safe and receive intensive, bespoke and trauma informed support so they can access the services they need to reduce the harms they are experiencing. You will be located at a brand new 24-hour supported housing service in Wandsworth for 15 people experiencing homelessness and severe and multiple disadvantage as part of a six month pilot.

In this role, you will provide direct support to all service users, leading on the day to day running of service, responding to residents needs and ensuring the safety and comfort of all residents and visitors. You will support service users in day to day tasks such as contacting other services and attending appointments, and will  co-design and run activities such as art groups, self care sessions, nature walks and cooking activities. You will work closely with specialist support workers and management.  You will model person-led and psychologically informed support, will be skilled at building trust and you will be a great team player.

The post holder will undertake 8-hour shifts on a 7-day rota, covering the hours 07:45 am to 20:15 pm.

This is a 6-month fixed-term contract.

Salary: £31,736 - £36,507 (scale points 7-17)
Closing Date: Monday 16th November
Interview Date: Tuesday 1st December/Wednesday 2nd December
