About the Role

Too many young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) face a sharp drop in support as they transition into adulthood. This role sits within an ambitious new programme, Ending the Cliff Edge, designed to change that.

As Partnerships and Best Practice Lead, you will play a central role in building a national, cross-sector alliance of young people, families, practitioners, organisations and service providers. Together, this alliance will drive meaningful reform and create better pathways into adulthood for disabled young people.

This is an opportunity to help shape a new initiative from the ground up—spreading best practice, testing innovative approaches, and building strong evidence of what works.

Key Responsibilities

• Build and maintain a broad collaborative partnership of cross‑sector organisations, providers, and experts to achieve collective ambition of driving improvement in transitions support.
• Refine, capture and share best‑practice models for supporting disabled young people into adulthood, ensuring they are evidence‑informed and accessible.
• Support partner organisations to design, adapt and deliver pilots that test innovative approaches and generate strong evidence of impact.
• Expand Kids’ national reach by growing the number of young people supported through improved transitions pathways, and increasing the number of businesses and providers engaged.

Responsibilities and duties

CRM selection, setup and ownership

• Research, evaluate and procure a CRM system which is best suited to membership organisations
• Lead on the implementation and configuration of the procured CRM system

About the Role

To oversee the charity’s financial management, ensuring accurate reporting, effective budgeting and robust controls. In this role, you will oversee our extensive portfolio of patient information resources, ensuring all content is accurate, accessible, evidence-based and aligned with the PIF TICK quality standard. You will identify opportunities to create new and engaging resources that meet the evolving needs of the PKD community, using innovative approaches to improve how information is delivered across multiple channels. A key part of the role will be translating complex scientific and medical research into clear, compelling and patient-friendly content. You will help increase awareness of clinical research opportunities, communicate emerging developments in PKD science, and support greater understanding of how research can shape future treatments and care. We are looking for someone with strong strategic thinking, excellent editorial judgement, and the ability to communicate complex health and scientific information with clarity and empathy. This role would suit someone passionate about improving lives through trusted health information while helping connect people to the future of PKD research. 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Health information management and quality:

• Support the development and management of the PKD Charity’s health information portfolio across digital and print platforms

• Ensure all content meets PIF TICK standards, including robust processes for development, review, updating and governance

• Maintain oversight of the full information catalogue, ensuring content is accurate, consistent and aligned with current clinical guidance

• Work with clinicians, researchers, and people with lived experience to co-produce and review content Content development and user need

Content development and user need:

• Identify gaps in current provision and lead the development of new information resources

• Ensure content is clear, accessible, inclusive, and tailored to the needs of different audiences

• Use patient insight, feedback and data to continuously improve the quality and usability of information Innovation in information deliver.

Research and science communication:

• Explore new ways of delivering information beyond written formats (e.g. video, audio, webinars, digital tools)

• Improve how information is presented and accessed across the website and other platforms

• Stay up to date with best practice in health information and digital engagement Research and science communication

• Monitor developments in PKD research, treatments, and clinical trials

• Translate complex scientific and medical information into clear, engaging, and accurate content for non-specialist audiences

• Work with the Communications Manager and wider colleagues to plan integrated campaigns, awareness activity and audience engagement.

• Develop compelling stories, updates and features that bring research to life and show its relevance to people affected by PKD.

• Work with colleagues to increase awareness, understanding and interest in PKD research.

Building engagement with research:

• Help create a culture of interest and engagement in research across the PKD community

• Develop content that builds understanding of how research works and why it matters

• Support communication around studies and clinical trials to ensure patients feel informed.

Collaboration and stakeholder engagement

• Work collaboratively across the organisation to ensure consistency and alignment in messaging

• Build relationships with healthcare professionals, researchers, and external partners

• Involve patients and volunteers meaningfully in content development and review

Quality, monitoring and impact:

• Monitor the reach and effectiveness of health information and research communications

• Maintain accurate records of content review cycles and updates in line with PIF requirements

With nationally recognised, award-winning partnerships as our platform, matched with a record-high brand sentiment rating, a highly prominent cause and a marketplace looking for long-term strategic partnerships, we are building the team infrastructure to maximise our strong position through the launch of two developed functions – Account Development and Business Development. 

What the job involves 

You’ll lead our business development strategy for corporate partnerships, focusing on securing high-value, purpose-driven relationships with long-term potential (typically 6–8 figure), and building a robust pipeline to deliver sustainable income growth. 

• Own and deliver the business development plan, targeting major prospects and flagship partnerships with transformational potential. 

• Identify, prioritise and cultivate opportunities across key sectors (including sport and health), shifting activity from short-term, transactional asks to insight-led, multi-year partnerships. 

• Shape and test compelling funding propositions, working with internal experts (including Communications, Black Health Equity, Research, Health Services, and Equity & Improvement) to build integrated partnership offers. 

• Lead proposal development end-to-end: briefing colleagues, coordinating inputs, writing and reviewing pitches, and ensuring submissions are high quality, compelling and on time. 

• Take overall accountability for the business development pipeline: keeping it strategically aligned, properly valued, actively progressed and accurately forecast. 

• Improve performance through better pipeline discipline: growing value and volume at each stage, increasing conversion, and reducing lead times from opportunity identification to proposal submission. 

• Line manage and develop a team of three experienced Business Development Managers (including sector/specialist roles), setting clear objectives and coaching for confident, high-performance delivery. 

• Lead and support negotiations with senior stakeholders, ensuring new partnerships protect and enhance our brand, values and reputation. 

• Work closely with partnership colleagues to transition newly secured partners into account development so relationships are onboarded smoothly and set up to scale. 

What we want from you 

You’re a strategic, commercially minded new business leader who can spot and shape big opportunities, influence at senior levels, and convert complex partnership conversations into high-value, multi-year income. 

• Significant experience securing new, high-value corporate partnerships (typically 6–8 figure) in a commercial organisation, charity and/or agency environment. 

• A strong track record of delivering income through new business acquisition, with credible examples of taking prospects from first contact through to signed agreement. 

• Confidence developing high-value propositions and partnership packages that work for both the organisation and the partner. 

• Excellent pipeline management skills, with experience improving conversion rates, forecasting and proposal turnaround times. 

• Strong influencing and negotiation skills, comfortable engaging senior stakeholders and navigating complex internal decision-making. 

• Proven people leadership experience, with the ability to coach, set clear expectations and build a high-performing specialist team. 

• A values-led approach and commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion, with the judgement to ensure partnerships align with and strengthen our brand.

How and where we work
