Following a successful five-year strategy and significant growth, we remain ambitious about the difference we can make. As we enter our next phase, we are investing in the leadership and operational capability needed to support our continued development. We are now recruiting an Assistant Directors of Services to join our senior management team.
This is a significant senior leadership role offering the opportunity to lead substantial service portfolios while helping shape how Cranstoun’s services are led and delivered across the organisation.
The role
Reporting to the Director of Operations, you will lead a substantial portfolio of complex commissioned services and senior operational managers.
You will lead nine services with nine direct reports, spanning criminal justice and housing/homelessness provision. You will have clear accountability for ensuring services are safe, effective and well-led, with strong contractual performance, financial sustainability and positive outcomes for the people and communities we support.
You will provide operational grip and evidence-based assurance, strengthen safeguarding and management accountability, build effective relationships with commissioners and partners, and ensure risks and underperformance are identified, escalated and addressed early.
You will also work collectively with fellow senior operational leaders to embed a One Cranstoun approach, strengthening common standards, sharing learning, developing leadership capability and improving quality and resilience across our services.
What you will be accountable for
As an Assistant Director, you will take senior operational accountability for:

- Financial sustainability – maintaining strong financial oversight, effective workforce management and oversight of the sustainability of individual contracts.
- Evidence-based assurance – using reliable performance, quality, workforce and financial information to identify risks and drive improvement.
- Collective organisational leadership – working beyond individual portfolio boundaries to build consistent standards, stronger leadership and shared ways of working across Cranstoun.
You will lead and develop senior operational managers, set clear expectations and create a culture in which support and accountability operate together.
You will also lead and contribute to service mobilisation, transformation, workforce planning and continuous improvement.
Who we are looking for
We are looking for established senior operational leaders with substantial experience leading complex commissioned services and geographically dispersed teams.
You will bring a strong track record of:
- leading safe, high-quality services for people with complex needs;
- safeguarding, quality and operational risk management;

- managing significant service budgets and improving financial performance;
- building effective relationships with commissioners, regulators and strategic partners;
- leading service improvement, mobilisation and organisational change;
- developing senior operational managers and addressing underperformance; and
- using performance, quality, workforce and financial information to provide assurance and drive improvement.
You will need to combine strategic leadership with operational pragmatism, understanding the detail when necessary while maintaining oversight of performance, risk, quality and sustainability across a complex portfolio.
Above all, we are looking for collaborative, credible and values-led leaders who can support and challenge in equal measure, build leadership capability and bring people together around common standards and organisational priorities.
Specialist experience
For this role, you will need significant leadership experience across both Criminal Justice and Housing/Homelessness services, including housing or accommodation-based provision.
You will understand the complexity of working across criminal justice, housing, local government and other statutory systems and be experienced in building effective relationships with commissioners and partners while maintaining strong operational and contractual oversight.
This is a 12-month fixed-term appointment at an important stage in Cranstoun’s transformation, offering the opportunity to lead a significant portfolio, strengthen operational performance and help shape the future development of our operating model.

The British Academy is the UK’s national academy for the humanities and social sciences. We support outstanding research and researchers, bring new ideas into public debate and help ensure that evidence and expertise inform some of the biggest questions facing society.
We are looking for a new Director of Finance & Resources to help us build on that work and plan confidently for the future.
This is an important appointment at an exciting point in the Academy’s development. We will celebrate our 125th anniversary in 2027, following a period in which we have grown our policy work, transformed our building to create more opportunities for public engagement and developed a national network for early career researchers.
As Director of Finance & Resources, you will make sure we have the resources, systems and organisational capacity to deliver our ambitions. You will lead our finance function and have overall responsibility for HR, IT & AV, Estates & Facilities, and Venue Sales & Marketing, working with experienced Heads of Department across each area.
Finance will be central to the role. You will lead our financial strategy and planning, oversee our financial controls and reporting, and provide clear advice to the Chief Executive, Senior Management Team, Council and its committees. You will also help us think longer term about our financial sustainability, including our plans to diversify income through philanthropy and commercial activity.
But we are looking for more than a strong Finance Director. You will be part of a close-knit Senior Management Team which works collectively to lead the Academy. We want someone who is interested in the organisation as a whole, who enjoys working across boundaries and who can help colleagues make good decisions about where we put our people, money and attention.
You will also have responsibility for some important assets. These include our historic home at 10–11 Carlton House Terrace, our technology and infrastructure, and our trading subsidiary. Ultimately, your job will be to make sure these resources are working as hard as possible in support of the Academy’s purpose.
About you
You will be a CCAB-qualified accountant with substantial and senior finance experience, gained in a complex organisation. You will have led finance teams and significant budgets and be comfortable advising senior leaders, Boards or Trustees.
You will also bring broader leadership experience. You may already have responsibility beyond finance, or have worked closely with areas such as people, operations, estates or technology.
We are looking for someone who can combine sound financial judgement with a practical, collaborative approach. You will be able to deal with complexity without making things unnecessarily complicated, communicate clearly with people who are not finance specialists, and provide constructive challenge when it is needed.
You should also be someone who enjoys leading through others. There are strong Heads of Department across the Resources portfolio, so this isn't about being the expert in every area. It is about setting direction, asking good questions, supporting people to succeed and bringing the different parts of the portfolio together.
Why join us?
The British Academy has a distinctive role in national life. In 2025/26 we awarded around £63 million in research funding. Alongside funding research, we convene academics, policymakers, businesses and civil society, engage the public with new ideas and use research to inform policy.
The Director of Finance & Resources helps make all of that possible.
For someone who wants to use their financial and leadership experience in an organisation with a clear public purpose, this is an opportunity to make a real contribution to the Academy’s next chapter.

Director of Finance – Interim to Permanent opportunity
London | Hybrid
£80,000 per annum
Initial 6-month contract, with the opportunity to become permanent
We are partnering with a high-profile, internationally focused not-for-profit organisation to appoint an experienced Director of Finance at a significant point of organisational change.
This is an excellent opportunity for a technically strong and hands-on senior finance leader who can bring stability, rigour and clarity to a complex international finance function, while also operating as a trusted adviser to senior leadership and the Board.
Initially appointed on a 6-month contract with a view to becoming permanent, you will lead the finance function through a period of transformation, strengthening financial reporting, controls, systems and processes while supporting wider organisational change.
The role:
Reporting into a senior member of the Executive team, you will lead a London-based finance team while working closely with finance colleagues across an international network.
This is not a purely strategic leadership position. You will need to be comfortable moving between board-level conversations and the operational detail required to ensure the finance function is accurate, controlled and delivering effectively.
Key priorities will include:
- Leading the organisation's global budgeting, forecasting and cash-flow processes
- Strengthening management accounting and ensuring timely monthly and quarterly reporting
- Presenting financial performance, forecasts and modelling to senior leadership, the Board and relevant governance committees
- Reviewing and strengthening financial controls, accounting processes and balance-sheet reconciliations
- Supporting the implementation and development of finance systems
- Providing financial modelling and costings to support organisational change and Executive decision-making
- Leading and developing a dispersed international finance function
- Overseeing grant accounting, cost allocations and compliance with donor and cost-recovery requirements
- Ensuring statutory, legal and taxation compliance across multiple international jurisdictions
- Supporting statutory, project and donor audits
- Building sustainable processes and ways of working that leave the finance function in a stronger position for the longer term
About you:
We are looking for an experienced senior finance professional who combines strong technical accounting capability with pragmatic, hands on leadership.
- Fully qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA)
- Senior-level finance experience within an international, multi-donor organisation
- Strong technical accounting and financial reporting expertise
- Experience improving financial controls and stabilising finance processes
- Demonstrable experience implementing, improving or migrating finance systems
- Experience of statutory audit and UK compliance, with exposure to international jurisdictions advantageous
- A strong understanding of grant management, donor funding and cost allocation methodologies
- Experience managing and developing finance and administration teams across multiple locations
- The ability to communicate complex financial information clearly to non-finance stakeholders, senior leadership and Boards
- A calm, delivery-focused approach and the willingness to get into the detail when required
Previous experience joining an organisation on an interim or fixed-term basis to stabilise and strengthen a finance function during a period of change would be particularly valuable.
The opportunity
This role will suit someone who enjoys transformation and can quickly understand what needs attention, establish priorities and bring a finance function forward.
You'll be joining an international, purpose-led organisation whose work has a significant global reach. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to make a tangible impact on both the immediate performance of the finance function and its longer-term development.
For a confidential discussion about the opportunity, please apply or reach out to Annabelle at MLC Partners to confidentially discuss this role further.
Please note: Candidates must already have, or be able to obtain, the right to work in the UK.
About Us

In 2025 alone, we had 1,911 individual visits and 1,021 therapy sessions - entirely through the dedication of our volunteer team. We are currently renovating our new centre, and we want to use it to reach further into our community than ever before. This is the first paid role in our history.
About the Role
As our first Executive Director, you will be the single point of accountability between our Board of Trustees and the day-to-day operation of the Centre - working alongside our (voluntary) Centre Manager and (voluntary) Volunteer Manager to support their roles, not duplicate them. You'll lead our strategy delivery, guide the charity's move into its new home, and oversee a service redesign informed by a fresh programme of visitor, volunteer and community research.
About You
You already know how to do this job - you've held a senior, accountable position in a charity or comparable organisation and can bring that experience from day one. You're confident reporting to a board of trustees, comfortable getting things done, and able to win the trust of a highly experienced, long-standing volunteer team through competence and credibility, not authority alone.
Key Activity Areas
• Financial management – budgeting, financial controls, and reporting to the Board and Treasurer
• Governance & best practice – supporting trustees to discharge their statutory duties; maintaining the policy suite and risk register
• HR & people leadership – supporting our entire volunteer and therapist team; communication is key to our volunteers
• Fundraising – write and lead on a fundraising strategy, implement new funding streams and be the ‘face of Pickering’ – local networking will be essential
• Change management – leading the transition to our new centre and evolving service model with care and consultation
• Compliance – safeguarding, health and safety, GDPR, and other regulatory requirements
Qualifications - Desirable
All the below are not necessary qualifications but would assist with this role:
• CIPD qualification, or equivalent hands-on HR experience
• A recognised governance qualification (e.g. Chartered Governance Institute) or completion of a charity leadership programme or similar
• Financial management experience – a qualification would be useful but not essential
• Safeguarding lead training
Experience and Competencies — Essential
• Senior leadership experience with genuine authority and accountability in a charity or comparable mission-led organisation
• A track record of reporting to and working with a board of trustees or non-executive directors
• A track record of leading organisational change, with evidence it was genuinely adopted
• Sound financial literacy - budgets, management accounts, financial controls, dealing with auditors
• Working knowledge of safeguarding, risk management and regulatory compliance
• Excellent written and verbal communication, including board-level reporting as well as the ability to speak in public
• Experience making a leadership role pay for itself, through income generation, cost savings, or both
• A genuine, demonstrable commitment to Pickering's mission
Experience and Competencies — Desirable
• Fundraising experience across grants, trusts, community fundraising and corporate partnerships
• Experience within the cancer support, wider healthcare, or hospice sector
• Lived experience of cancer, personally or through supporting someone close to you
• Experience leading a refresh of a brand or a rebrand, service redesign, or physical relocation of services
• Familiarity with Tunbridge Wells and the surrounding local community
Safeguarding
This role involves working with adults who may be vulnerable by virtue of serious illness. The successful candidate will be required to undergo an enhanced DBS check and satisfactory reference checks before appointment, and will act as, or oversee, the charity's designated safeguarding lead.
Equality, Diversity and Inclusion
Pickering is committed to equal opportunity for all and welcomes applications from all suitably qualified candidates regardless of age, disability, gender reassignment, marital or civil partnership status, pregnancy or maternity, race, religion or belief, sex, or sexual orientation. A copy of our Diversity, Equity and Inclusion policy is available on request.
How to Apply
Please apply by Sunday 6 September 2026. Interviews are expected to take place w/c 14 September 2026.

We're looking for someone who understands the power of communities and relationships.
This is a broad leadership role spanning alumni engagement, communications, volunteering, individual giving, CRM, data insight and operational delivery. While experience within alumni relations or advancement in higher education would be valuable, we're equally interested in hearing from candidates from the charity, membership, fundraising, supporter engagement or relationship management sectors. What matters most is your ability to build communities, create meaningful engagement opportunities, use insight to drive decision-making and inspire people to connect with a shared purpose.
You'll be strategic enough to shape the future direction of alumni engagement at Kingston, whilst remaining hands-on enough to build relationships, spot opportunities and bring colleagues and stakeholders with you.
You'll bring:
- Experience developing and delivering successful alumni engagement, advancement, membership, supporter engagement or relationship-management programmes.
- A track record of building communities, growing participation and creating meaningful engagement opportunities
- Strong leadership skills and experience developing high-performing teams
- Confidence using insight, data and CRM systems to inform strategy and decision-making
- Experience overseeing communications, events, volunteering, supporter engagement or related activities
- An understanding of how long-term relationships can lead to advocacy, mentoring, volunteering, partnerships and giving
Most importantly, you'll believe that alumni engagement is about much more than communications and events. You'll be excited by the opportunity to help graduates become mentors, volunteers, advocates, partners and lifelong supporters of the University.
Benefits include
- Generous annual leave entitlement
- Excellent pension scheme
- Hybrid working (with a minimum of 50% of time spent on campus)
- Access to professional development opportunities
- A supportive and inclusive working environment
- The opportunity to shape a high-profile function at one of London's leading universities

Background information
About us:
National Voices is the leading coalition of health and social care charities in England. We have more than 200 members covering a diverse range of health conditions and communities, connecting us with the experiences of millions of people. We work together to strengthen the voice of patients, people with Lived Experience, unpaid carers, their families and the voluntary organisations that work for them.
Our mission:
We advocate for a more equitable and person-centred health and care, shaped by the people who use and need it the most.
We do this by:
- Understanding and advocating for what matters to people, especially those living with health conditions and groups who experience inequalities
- Finding common cause across communities and conditions by working with member charities and those they support
- Connecting and convening charities, decisions makers and citizens to work together to change health and care for good.
Our five-year strategy:
In September 2024 we published a new five-year strategy that was co-produced with our staff, our member charities, our Lived Experience Partners and our key stakeholders. This set out three clear goals:
- End unequal access
By addressing the barriers experienced by those facing the worst outcomes, we will find solutions that improve care for all.
- Transfer power to people and communities
As a leader in co-production, we will help communities to work with system leaders at national and neighbourhood level to make big decisions together. This will maximise the skills and capabilities of patients, ensuring care is truly person-centred.
- Shift the measures of success
By campaigning for better patient experience and outcomes metrics, we can ensure that what matters to people becomes the key measure of success for the NHS.
In the first two years of the strategy we have already made big strides. For example, our work encouraging the Government to focus on “getting the basics right” has seen major policy initiatives designed to fix access to primary care and the 8am rush. Similarly, our work on the experience of waiting for elective care has seen the introduction of the first ever set of minimum standards for waiting.
Our work on the 10 Year Plan, and on the Quality Strategy, has also seen both patient experience and outcome measures given much greater prominence in how the NHS judges success and National Voices has now been commissioned by NHS England to help design the future of patient feedback mechanisms.
We have also successfully campaigned for funding formulas to be revised to enable the NHS to directly address the inverse care law and tackle the impact of health inequalities head on.
But there are challenges ahead, not least the role patients and communities play directly in co-producing improvement. With ICBs under huge financial pressures, and so much change in the health and care system, we need to make sure every piece of work we deliver is of the highest quality and adds real value. This is the only way to help others across the sector understand the value that people with Lived Experience offer to problem solving processes and creating better and more inclusive solutions.

Noah's Ark Children's Hospice is partnering with Robertson Bell on a retained basis to recruit a Director of Finance on a permanent basis. This is an exciting opportunity to join a highly regarded children's hospice at a pivotal stage of its development, taking a leading role in strengthening financial performance, improving organisational effectiveness and helping shape the charity's next phase of growth.
This is more than a traditional Finance Director role. Noah's Ark has undergone significant transformation in recent years, moving from a predominantly community-based service to operating a 24/7 hospice facility at The Ark. The successful candidate will join at a critical point in this journey, with the opportunity to strengthen the finance function whilst working closely with the wider Senior Leadership Team to ensure the charity is making the best possible use of its resources and delivering maximum value for children and families.
For an ambitious, commercially minded finance leader, this is an opportunity to combine strong financial leadership with genuine organisational impact, helping to shape a more effective operating model and contributing directly to the future direction of the charity.
The role
- Partner with the CEO, Senior Leadership Team and Board of Trustees to shape the charity's financial and strategic direction during a period of organisational change.
- Stabilise and strengthen the finance function, ensuring high-quality financial management, robust controls and accurate, insightful reporting.
- Lead the budgeting, forecasting and financial planning process, including modelling different care delivery approaches, investment decisions and longer-term strategic scenarios.
- Support the charity to improve its financial position, identifying opportunities to increase efficiency and ensure resources are being deployed to maximum effect.
- Oversee statutory accounts, external reporting, audit and regulatory requirements, ensuring the charity maintains strong financial governance and compliance.
- Ensure effective management of reserves, investments, cash flow, liquidity, insurance and restricted funds.

- Identify opportunities for cost efficiency and productivity improvements across the organisation, working collaboratively with colleagues to turn insight into action.
- Support the design and implementation of new IT and financial systems, ensuring they provide the information and controls required to support an effective organisation.
- Lead and develop a small finance team, setting clear expectations, building capability and creating a culture of accountability and high performance.
- Play an active role in wider organisational leadership, bringing constructive challenge and financial insight to decisions beyond the traditional finance remit.
The organisation
Noah's Ark Children's Hospice provides specialist care and support to babies, children and young people with life-limiting or life-threatening conditions, alongside their families. Its purpose-built hospice, The Ark, opened in 2019 and provides a unique environment where children can receive specialist care, therapy, bereavement support and family services in a safe and welcoming setting.
Rated 'Outstanding' by the Care Quality Commission, Noah's Ark supports families across North and Central London and Hertsmere, delivering care wherever it is needed - in the family home, within the community or at The Ark.
This is an organisation with a warm, supportive culture and a strong commitment to its values of Kindness, Excellence and Courage. It is now looking for a finance leader who can combine that collaborative approach with the confidence to challenge constructively, make difficult decisions and drive meaningful improvement.

- Strong experience leading a finance function.
- Strong understanding of financial controls, governance, audit and statutory reporting.
- Demonstrable experience producing and interpreting high-quality financial information that supports effective decision-making.
