GFS is seeking a strategic, proactive and values-led Communications Manager to lead the delivery of our communications function and elevate our profile across audiences and platforms. The role will support the shaping and delivery of a communications strategy that amplifies our voice, showcases our impact, and builds trust and engagement with our community. You’ll work across all areas of the organisation to coordinate messaging, manage risk and lead communications activity that reflects our feminist values and purpose.
The Communications Manager will oversee digital content, media relations, marketing and digital fundraising campaigns, working in close collaboration with the CEO, Leadership team and wider team. You will line-manage the Marketing and Communications Coordinator, ensuring high-quality content, storytelling and messaging are delivered consistently across all channels.

What you'll do:
* Drive business planning activities within your contract, ensuring relevant and challenging objective setting and ongoing performance tracking, developing turn around action plans as may be necessary

About the Role
The role sits within the Communications, Engagement and Fundraising (CEF) directorate and reports to its director. The team serves the needs of the organisation by engaging a range of key audiences through various media channels, volunteer engagement, events and fundraising. The post holder will work in close collaboration with others across the organisation and will enjoy working in an innovative and creative environment.
You will lead the Fundraising team, including Supporter Care, in developing and implementing team plans and strategies to ensure long-term growth and delivering targets.

You will line manage the Individual Giving Manager and Fundraising Stewardship Manager, supporting their professional development to help achieve annual fundraising targets and objectives.

Main Duties and Responsibilities
Engagement Programme
- Plan, co-ordinate and deliver an engaging public programme of visitor led events, aimed at building new audiences and boosting our visitor numbers
- Work with the Head of Engagement, to develop the group visit offer, ensuring forthcoming anniversaries and activities are exploited
- Support the Head of Engagement to deliver the Social Justice Programme, identifying opportunities within existing talks and tours programming to further support the annual theme
- Provide administration of all groups and public tours, ensuring they are booked and co-ordinated accurately
- Coordinate with the Audience Development Manager to evaluate visitor and volunteer feedback, taking action to make improvements as necessary
- Work with external stakeholders and speakers to deliver an engaging year-round expert talks series
Financial administration
- Work with the Finance Team, ensure all fees for engagement events are invoiced and paid for in advance
Relationships
- Line management of the Cathedral Guides volunteer team, working with the Head Guide to ensure guides are kept up to date of Cathedral policy and are trained and delivering excellent customer service
- Work with the Verging and Property team to ensure events are coordinated and delivered to a high professional standard
Other
- Support the Head of Engagement to deliver large scale public events providing administrating and on the day delivery support

Your role
As Senior Philanthropy Manager (Events), you will lead War Child’s high-value events programme, engaging high-net-worth supporters and Global Ambassadors to maximise income from major donors. The role
As Training Programme Lead, you will be responsible for:

Growth: Owning the programme's growth strategy, including building an institutional offer for think tanks, foundations, funders, and NGOs.

Marketing: Running the promotion of our public courses across social channels and professional networks to hit recruitment targets.

Operations: Managing the student journey, from onboarding and payments to platform management (LMS).

Development: Working with our course leaders to spot new opportunities and expand what we offer.

Community: Keeping our alumni community engaged and supported alongside the wider team.
This is a 2 day per week commitment (with opportunity to increase the time as the programme grows).
Who you are
You’ll be someone who knows the world of foundations and non-profits well, you’ve probably worked in a few. Ideally, you’ve got a sense of the kinds of skills that these organisations need to develop (and that a communications consultancy could train on). You’ll also be comfortable in a marketing and sales context, able to argue why an organisation should invest in our training platform, and what benefit it will provide to them.

Operation Manager opportunity at Alford House
We are recruiting a versatile and commercially- oriented Operations Manager to manage the facilities, develop our rental income and provide timely and accurate financial and administrative management support.
Working model: Reporting to the Senior Youth Worker and working 18 hours, typically over 2.5 days per week (flexible working pattern can be agreed), this is a hands-on role covers (but is not limited to) the following;
- Managing the buildings and their facilities, with external contractors where appropriate
- Sustaining existing and securing new sources of income from space rentals/other commercial opportunities
- Supporting fundraising/grant income applications
- Financial and budget planning, monitoring and reporting, with the support of a part- time bookkeeper
- IT, administration and facilities management policies, processes and systems
- Ensuring the building and its facilities comply with relevant regulation and legislation and that all polices are up to date, communicated and applied to provide a safe and secure environment
Crucial to our success will be the Operations Manager’s support for and identification with our mission and values along with the ability to work collaboratively with the Senior Youth Worker and his team in their work with young people in Lambeth.

Founded in 1884, Alford House Youth Club remains a pivotal 21st century community anchor in Lambeth, providing a safe, trusted environment where long-term, relational youth work can help young people develop socially, emotionally, physically, and creatively.
Alford House’s activity programme is open to young people aged 8 to 21 years old offering a variety of sports, games, creative and recreational activities in a safe and secure environment that is managed by our dedicated team of staff and volunteers.
It is a place where young people are known, valued, and supported over time — not as problems to be fixed, but as people with potential. We also offer a range of additional support, information, advice, and guidance to support young people to achieve their potential in education and help to prevent exclusion.
An ambitious £3m refurbishment of our historic buildings, and home since 1950, was completed recently to give the youth work team all that they need to serve the young people of the area into and beyond the second half of 2020s.
This has enhanced an already exceptional range of flexible venue spaces which we let during the daytime to theatre companies and businesses. This commercial activity contributes crucial income to support our work with young people.
What you’ll bring to Alford House
- Experience of income generation (lettings, grants etc)
- Experience of managing buildings/facilities including responsibility for maintenance, contractors, Health and Safety and regulatory compliance
- Experience with and good understanding of financial management, including budget monitoring, management and year end accounts and working with external accountants, bookkeepers and payroll.
- Experience with QuickBooks, Xero or similar.
- A proactive, hands on and practical working style, able to work independently in resource-limited settings
- Reliability and thoroughness, able to identify problems early and escalate appropriately
- Excellent interpersonal skills, collaborative, able to build effective working relationships with a wide range of people (trustees, staff, contractors and lettings clients)
- The ability to prioritise effectively and manage multiple workstreams simultaneously
- IT literacy, skilled with MS office and able to assess and implement new systems
- Demonstrable commitment to, effective safeguarding of children and young people, equality of opportunity and to creating an inclusive work environment
What Alford House can offer you

We’re looking for an experienced Programme Officer to join our team on a maternity cover contract. This is an exciting opportunity to play a central role in the delivery of our In2STEM Programme during a busy and high impact period. You’ll benefit from a comprehensive handover, a supportive team environment, and the chance to make a real contribution from day one.
The Programme Officer will support the delivery of the In2STEM Programme including recruitment, planning, delivery, participant and volunteer management, and evaluation.
You will be responsible for recruitment, managing a caseload of students and volunteers (work experience hosts), and managing relationships with supporters and funders. You will also support the planning, delivery and evaluation of programme activities including training and inductions, placements, online workshops, competitions and celebration events.
