Job description

Talk for Health Programme Manager– Salary £28,000 - £32,000 (Depending on experience)

 

Talk for Health is a small, innovative mental health social enterprise on a mission to make therapy accessible to all. We teach people the skills of therapeutic talk and enable them to participate and/or lead in a network of ongoing groups to support theirs and others mental wellbeing. Our service runs in Islington and Camden, funded by the NHS and grant-makers. Over the last 8 years, we've positively impacted the lives of 1,000+ people and won various awards including 'Best Long Term Impact' at the Mental Health & Wellbeing Awards.

We are looking for a Programme Manager who will lead on our service operations across Camden and Islington. You will be responsible for meeting targets through community outreach, relationship management and digital marketing. You will be co-ordinating a team of 40+ volunteers and 20 sessional trainers, and liaise with key stakeholders and external providers of e.g. IT and design.

You will be a pro-active person with high standards and a can-do, entrepreneurial attitude. The role requires an excellent level of organisational skills, as well as knowledge and awareness of the mental health charity sector. We are looking for someone with proven communications skills and who is approachable, self-motivated, and compassionate. No day is the same in this role and therefore constant prioritizing is necessary, whilst still ensuring timely and quality delivery of our trainings, group and events.

The role is 5 days a week 9.30 – 5.30 pm with occasional evenings and Saturday morning work (you’ll be able to take this time back if you work outside your contracted hours), with a minimum of 50% of time working from our home-based office in NW3 and 50% working from your home. You will also need to travel regularly in Islington and Camden, our main areas of operation, to attend meetings in various locations with funders and partners.

Job Description

  • Plan and execute our annual programme of trainings, events, and groups, ensuring we meet targets, deadlines, and budgets. Our trainings, monthly events and groups are at the core of our service and these require promotion, filling, and forward planning. The person undertaking this role needs to meet stringent funder targets for these. All our training and events are a mix of online and face to face. This will require venue checking and booking, ordering of materials etc. for the face-to-face events.
  • Promote our service effectively to meet targets, using and improving our comms to engage effectively with, and build/maintain high visibility with, referrers and participants. You will be leading on the cycle of recruitment, registration and tracking of participants in all our events and sessions.
  • Marketing and communications - including digital:  oversee and develop our comms on our website, e-newsletters, Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, flyers, and posters.
  • Build and maintain good relations with Talk for Health stakeholders such as contract managers at Islington CCG (NHS); funders; community referrers; host venues; corporates who support our work. Liaise with guest speakers, Trainers, Volunteers, Staff, participants, Local mental and other health professionals (GPs, Psychiatrists, Psychologists, organisations such as Mind), Board members and our CEO etc.
  • Service evaluation, reporting and data analysis: manage stringent data collection and protection of service user data, to track our social impact and produce reports.
  • Operational support at Trainings and events: setting up in-person events, providing support to trainers and collecting questionnaires.
  • Improve policies and processes: e.g. software and data collection; systems for contracting with and training new people; communications; company policies.
  • Admin support: As a small organisation, we expect everyone to get stuck in and embrace various tasks, this may include; manning the company phone, stock taking of materials, ordering stationery, packing cases with training materials and refreshments, mailing materials to trainers and participants etc.

 

Qualifications, experience and skills required

 

  • Graduate level education – or the equivalent in experience
  • Experience in fast-paced operations/project management/event management or organising trainings.
  • Excellent organisational and administration skills: Ability to be flexible and readjust plans, able to prioritise work within set deadlines. Strong attention to detail.
  • Self-discipline and drive for excellence: you need to be able to work to high standards independently.
  • Experience and knowledge of IT skills including with Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and desirably, CRMs, Mailchimp, Eventbrite and WordPress.
  • Experience of managing digital media. (*Desirable): Digital media is an integral part of our marketing mix. You will oversee our channels: Instagram, Twitter, website, Mailchimp newsletters and Facebook updates.
  • Strong communication skills & emotional intelligence: including the ability to remain calm under pressure, being patient and empathic with a wide range of service users who may have mental health issues.
  • Knowledge of mental health issues and solutions: on-board with our core premise that people can be trained and supported to help each other as effectively as professionals.
  • Volunteer management: ability to confidently and calmly liaise with/manage a group of trainers and volunteers.
  • Innovative problem-solver within time and financial constraints.
  • Ability to deal with confidential issues in a professional and sensitive manner.
  • Data analysis: ability to understand and produce detailed data and reports, and to draw out & communicate the story it tells.
