The successful candidate will be responsible for working with a wide range of student leaders to mobilise the community organising model for a particular faculty within the University of Sunderland, harnessing their talents and enhancing student skills development.

This is a fantastic opportunity to gain a variety of skills through being involved in a varied role across different areas of Student Engagement at Sunderland Students’ Union.

We have undertaken a Democracy and Governance Review to revitalise the way our students interact with their Students’ Union across both the Sunderland and London campuses. The findings highlighted the need for a clear shift away from the more traditional models of SU democracy towards a community organising approach.

Key deliverables:

Supporting Young People

About the Role

Supported Lodgings Coordinator (Wigan) - 7 Months FTC

Help shape a new Supported Lodgings service and make a real difference to young people aged 16–21. In this fast‑paced role, you’ll assess need and risk, coordinate placements with trained community hosts, and provide practical, strengths‑based support that helps young people build stability, skills and confidence on their journey to independent living.

You’ll also recruit, train and support hosts, work closely with partners across housing, care and safeguarding, and actively promote the service in the local community. If you have experience supporting young people at risk of homelessness, strong safeguarding skills and the energy to build trusted relationships, this is a chance to turn commitment into action and deliver lasting change.

Key Deliverables

Young People

• To be the first point of contact for young people and referral partners wanting to access the Supported Lodgings service.
• You will lead on the assessment of needs and risk, predominantly focused on suitable risk management plans for the safeguarding, matching and placement of young people in the homes of hosts
• Arrange all aspects of a young person’s stay with a host, ensuring they feel welcomed and supported, taking into account the support needs of individuals.
• You will have responsibility for ensuring the health and safety of the environment for young people and hosts through regular checks and reporting.
• You will provide regular support and planning sessions for young people
• To work with young people, hosts and other agencies, to prepare them for independent living and access longer term, appropriate accommodation using support plans.
• You will be part of a team responsible for a 24 hour on call service

Host Recruitment and Support

• You will recruit, vet and train hosts both formally and informally ensuring that host recruitment policies and procedures are implemented.
• You will support and provide regular supervision to hosts.
• You will be proactive in maintaining host’ skills and motivation, including training and celebration events, and provide opportunities for them to shape service delivery.
• You will be responsible for carrying out regular checks on host accommodation and assisting them to make necessary changes.
• You will ensure that all hosts are made to feel safe, secure and valued.

External Relationships

• You will proactively work in partnership with multiple agencies including statutory teams, to support the well being and ongoing housing needs of young people, working in accordance with safeguarding, data protection and information sharing protocols.
• You will lead on the active promotion and selling of the Supported Lodgings service to all potential hosts and referral partners, across the voluntary/statutory sectors and within the wider local community.

Others

• You will be an active member of the Prevention Team, working collaboratively and effectively with your line manager.
• You will be responsible for maintaining up to date records on all young people and hosts, supporting service management with all aspects of report requirements.

About the Role 

This is a key support role within the Foundation, providing high-quality coordination and executive support to the Strategy, Impact and Innovation and Income directorates.

You will provide clinical direction and maintain oversight of elop’s counselling services, bringing understanding and experience of delivering trauma-informed approaches to support the emotional health and psychological wellbeing of LGBTQ+ people.

You will oversee and contribute to clinical operational responsibilities, service coordination and delivery, ensuring a professional, safe, smooth running, efficient and well managed service is maintained.   You will work alongside the senior leadership team across both strategic and clinical operational levels ensuring lead responsibilities for our counselling teams and services. Working collaboratively with the senior leadership team, implementing clinical delivery decisions, ensuring the counselling service effectively maintains ethical and professional standards of practice and communication across key staff, other agencies and service users. 

You will proactively contribute to building a robust and compelling evidence base that continues to demonstrate impact, improved wellbeing, and increased resilience, and have a key role in monitoring, evaluation, and supporting the wider counselling team with reporting and using data to drive operations, and evidence-based best practice. 

Your role will also include overseeing referrals and allocation of clients; undertaking client assessments; providing role-management, and clinical support and supervision to trainee and sessional counsellors; line-management of key service personnel; some clinical support work with more complex or acute needs clients; recruiting, inducting and training key staff and volunteers; and liaising with the clinical supervision team. 

Full Time: 37 hours per week

There will be one regular evening/ week, and occasional other evening and weekend working required.

We are looking for an experienced youth worker to join our team and lead our Short Breaks project, which provides activities and support specifically for children and young people who have autism and have low to moderate support needs. Camp Mohawk is a woodland activity centre that provides support to children, young people and families from across the South of England.

The children and young people (approximately 100 individuals) supported by the project are aged 8 to approximately 25 years and are largely independent in terms of their self care but have a variety of social, sensory and sometimes medical needs that mean it is very difficult for them to participate in mainstream activities. Our Short Breaks service offers after school activities (in 3 age groups) on Tuesdays and Thursdays in term time, as well as full days of activities once per week in school holidays. These activities give the young people essential social opportunities during which they are supported with things they find challenging, encouraged to express their natural personalities and explore and develop their interests. During these sessions they can receive support to develop their social skills if that is what they need, and can take part in fun activities with their peers. The groups generally cater for between 10 and 20 young people per session.

To be a good fit for this role, you will need to be an exceptional and dedicated childcare / youth worker who has proven experience of supporting and safeguarding children and young people, particularly those who have autism. You should have experience of planning inclusive activities, managing budgets and supervising teams of staff. The role is very much a ‘hands on’ role working directly with the project beneficiaries for the majority of the post hours - you must be able to commit to working the majority of Tuesday (16.00 - 19.30) and Thursday (18.30 - 22.00) evenings in term time, and at least one full day (09.00 - 17.30) per week during school holidays, with the exception of the Christmas holidays when the centre is closed. You will work 10 hours per month on project associated admin which can be undertaken remotely and largely at times that suit you. You must have a full UK driving license and access to a reliable vehicle that is insured for business use. Camp Mohawk is not easily accessible by public transport, whilst some Short Breaks activities take place at off site locations in Reading, Wokingham, Maidenhead, Bracknell, Slough and surrounding areas.

The current post holder also works in the role of Duty Manager for other school holiday days / term time weekend days. This aspect of the role, which will be an optional add on to the Short Breaks Coordinator role with negotiable hours, would be undertaken on a rotational basis with our 4 other Duty Managers. The role involves overseeing the daily delivery of general Family Sessions which support families who have children of all ages and who have a wide range of special needs and disabilities. In this role you will guide and supervise a team of support staff and volunteers through set up of the facilities at the start of the day, oversee the smooth and effective delivery of the service and support families during their visits, work effectively within our Safeguarding Lead Team, and supervise the cleaning and close down of facilities once the session has completed.

Everything you do will have the aim of ensuring that people with lived experience have their say over the help they receive and have the opportunity to shape housing and homelessness services.

You will plan and deliver a variety of involvement activities around Norfolk, working closely with the Shelter team and wider partners as part of the Norfolk Homelessness Solutions Forum. This will include recruiting, training and inducting people to be part of lived experience activities, supporting Shelter colleagues to put people with lived experience at the heart of their work. You will ensure that there are regular opportunities for feedback and that any wellbeing and safeguarding concerns are managed in line with Shelter’s processes.

About you

You will need experience of facilitating involvement groups and other activities to support and involve people with lived experience in Shelter’s work. You have a strong understanding of how lived experience of housing issues can impact a person and so ensure a safe and inclusive space where everybody can contribute. The ability to plan and co-ordinate involvement activities with local teams, with several activities running at once is important as well.

You will have a flair for developing successful relationships with colleagues across an organisation, as well as external local organisations and partners. Also, you have some experience of presenting information verbally and in writing and IT literacy including case management systems and Microsoft Office.

The aim of the Norfolk Homelessness Solution Forum is to bring about system change for homelessness support in Norfolk, by ensuring that the people’s views are transferred into policies and practices that truly support and serve the community. The Forum helps with the sharing of best practice, identifying service gaps and developing strategy to reduce homelessness and rough sleeping.

About the Team

We have been providing housing advice to the people of Norfolk for almost 30 years, with specialisms in housing legal advice and advocacy. Our team work out of our Community Hub in Norwich and across Norfolk in community settings. We work in partnership with other local services to address interconnected issues which may impact on our clients’ ability to keep a home. This also includes advice for residents of Kings Lynn in partnership with Broadland Housing and Norfolk Citizens Advice.We also deliver housing right awareness sessions to empower local communities to take action on housing issues.
