We are looking for a skilled and highly motivated communications professional with significant experience of devising and delivering impactful communications strategies and an impressive track record of effective media work. 

You need to be able to create ambitious, highly strategic plans from scratch and then enjoy rolling up your sleeves and delivering them. On some days, you'll be running brainstorms, writing strategies, commissioning research and devising other impactful interventions to influence the mainstream media narrative on our issues. On other days, you'll be pitching a press release, turning around a reactive line in an hour when a story breaks, or meeting a senior journalist.

You should be someone who loves to think strategically about how to shape the media narrative around complex issues, including identifying influential actors and understanding their agendas. And ideally you will be able to demonstrate experience of working between communications, campaigning, policy, and advocacy disciplines and understanding of how these areas of work need to interact to bring about policy change. 

You do not need to be an economic policy specialist, but an ability to quickly grasp and fluently communicate technical policy issues is essential.

About The Elders

The Elders was founded by Nelson Mandela in 2007 as an independent group of global leaders working for peace, justice, human rights and a sustainable planet. There are 12 active Elders from Africa, Asia-Pacific, Europe, Latin America, and the Middle East. The group has been chaired since 2018 by Mary Robinson, former President of Ireland and United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights. Previous chairs were Desmond Tutu and Kofi Annan.

The Elders operate through private diplomacy and public advocacy; they use their experience, influence and access to heads of state and government to engage politically, and their connections to civil society to stand in solidarity with the most vulnerable people and communities.

Role Overview

Working closely with the Deputy Director (Operations) [DDO] and line managed by the Operations Manager [OM], the Operations Officer contributes to the work of the Operations team, sitting within the larger Corporate Services team. This role involves supporting the planning, and organisation of all operational and logistical elements of Elders’ meetings, trips and events, as well as supporting the secretariat’s information technology infrastructure, system security and technical capacity, and the facilitation of knowledge management.

Experience

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including fluency in written and spoken English.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365. Experience in managing IT and telecoms systems is desirable.

• Experience with providing logistical support for events and/or individuals desirable.
• High level of organisational and administrative skills, attention to detail, ability to problem solve and adapt quickly.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

Logistics and Events

In consultation with the DDO and OM:

· Assist with practical and logistical support to the Elders, Advisory Council, team members and others for Elders’ meetings, travel and events.

· Supporting external communication in preparation of logistics/travel for meetings, international visits, events and online meetings, where required.

· Support research, including site visits, in preparation for The Elders’ visits, meetings and events, create reports and make recommendations to the DDO and SMT.

· Assist with the production of necessary health, security and travel briefings and/or protocols for staff, Elders and Advisory Council for all meetings, visits and events.

· Support post-event work including recording contact details and sending formal correspondence, as required.

· Occasional engagement with international entities including embassies, government offices and external partners to arrange appropriate logistics/protocol/security measures for Elders travel, where required.

· Assist with the preparation of necessary insurance, health, security, and safety measures and precautions during Elders’ meetings, visits and events, where required

Information Technology

In consultation with the DDO and OM:

· Support the organisational management of technology including: systems architecture, asset and CRM databases, ensuring adequate IT systems, polices and protocols to ensure the various organisational archiving policies and protocols are adhered to.

· Work with the IT support companies and other suppliers, consultants, and partner organisations as required to fulfil the management of day-to-day operations;

· Provide day-to-day IT and systems support to the London Secretariat office.

· Encourage and facilitate team wide usage of knowledge-based tools and applications, providing instructional training where required.

Executive Support

· Provide some diary support for the CEO to schedule external meetings once a meeting has been agreed in principle.

Other

· Other duties as required.

Working at The Elders

We operate a hybrid working policy, with a high degree of flexibility for staff. We ask staff to attend the office based on need, not a quota of days. We believe there are certain activities that are best conducted in person and also hold monthly “in days” when the whole team comes together. Additionally, some roles involve international travel, the timing of which is usually decided by Elders’ commitments. Aside from these obligations, staff are free to choose the balance between working remotely and working in the office that suits them best. We are based close to Green Park station in London, in a newly refurbished office.

Salary will be in the £29,600 -32,000 per annum range, depending on experience.

This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a fast-growing and established health and social care charity. As a Grant and Community Fundraiser, you will play a pivotal role in our Fundraising team, helping us secure the funding necessary to sustain and enhance our vital services, primarily in the Bedfordshire area. What we are looking for:

• Previous experience in a similar role with similar responsibilities, this can include in a fundraising and/or sales capacity which has direct transferrable skills.

• Ability to carry out research and lead on outreach and partnership building initiatives in various locations which can include locations of rural communities

OVERVIEW OF KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

FUNDRAISING

• Be a point of contact for fundraising, ensuring a positive experience for funders and managing financial transactions to agreed fundraising policies and processes.
• Develop a regional Grant Programme, focusing on unrestricted income and feeding into fundraising management reporting. 
• Identify, research, and communicate income and partnership opportunities, working proactively with colleagues across the Group to scope fundable initiatives that provide added value. 
• Work alongside the team to develop high-quality grant funding applications, cases for support, and budgets. Complete the end-to-end process, ensuring all applications are thorough and competitive.
• Oversee grant reporting and invoicing, ensuring prompt fulfilment in line with all grant agreements and reporting requirements, liaising with relevant teams across the Group. 
• Plan, implement and manage various campaigns and activities, which may include but are not limited to local events, national events, outreach, and fundraising opportunities.

PARTNERSHIP BUILDING

• Attend networking events to build engagement and partnerships with local and national organisations.
• Build a rolling calendar of charity of the year application deadlines. Provide excellent stewardship, using innovative ways to keep all parties engaged and informed of relevant news and updates by SIG.
• Support partners in fundraising endeavours and signposting to new and existing opportunities.

What we would like, but not essential:

• Previous experience in writing successful grant applications to Charitable Trusts and Foundations
• Previous experience working in a customer-facing role
• Professional Qualification in a relevant discipline which can include Marketing, English, Business Management

• Proficiency in navigating online and offline fundraising tools and systems

About the role

This hands-on role will lead the implementation of global communications strategies for ITF’s Land and

Air Sections (LAS): Aviation, Railways, Road Transport, Tourism and Urban Transport.

The LAS Communications Manager will work closely with the industrial sections and affiliates to push forward a union-led agenda for the aviation and inland transport industries.

Working within a multi-disciplinary team, this role will work collaboratively to deliver and evaluate forward-thinking communication strategies for these industrial work programs and their priority campaigns. The role will include targeting diverse audiences including transport workers in the industries, employers, allies, media, policy makers, political leaders and the wider public. The role will also play a crucial role in ensuring that section’s industrial priorities and issues are reflected and integrated in organisation-wide communications priorities and areas of focus.

Fundamental to this role will be an ability to develop expert knowledge and keep on top of policy and industrial issues facing aviation, railway, road transport, tourism and public transport workers, and effectively interpret and analyse the complex issues and challenges into communications strategies that advance workers’ rights.

You will be part of delivering solidarity and support to local, national and global disputes, building communications that reinforce the critical role transport workers in the land and air industries play, developing strategies to support union-led policies on everything from health and safety to sustainability, and raising the volume on the global struggle to advance the rights and equalities of the world’s transport workers.

A fantastic opportunity has arisen at Mile End Climbing Wall for Marketing and Events Manager.

Mile End Climbing Wall (MECW) is the trading name of the charity Development through Challenge (DtC).

Development through Challenge started life as a charity called North London Rescue Commando (NLRC), set up when London was at threat of flood. They moved to the current site from North London, where they had started as a small water sports centre. In the mid-1980s a change in focus led to the formation of Mile End Climbing Wall. It became the climbing wall in London and one of the first climbing walls in England. In 1997 NLRC changed its name to Development through Challenge.

Since then, we have been providing East London and UK climbing communities with high quality climbing and associated facilities that are available to everyone regardless of ability to pay, physical ability, or skill-level. We organise training and challenges that improve people’s wellbeing.

Responsible to the Operations Manager, this position will work with the Senior Managers, Trustees and CEO, to deliver the strategic plan for marketing and communications and manage their operational implementation - including on and offline campaigns, internal and external communications, publications, digital activities, events and PR to raise awareness of brand and reputation and maximise customer and community engagement.

The position will be responsible for the line management of a p/t social media content creator.

Location: Mile End Climbing Wall, E3

Hours: 37.5 hours per week (full time)

This is a position to:

· Deliver the overall marketing and communications strategic plan for Mile End Climbing Wall (MECW) and Development through Challenge DtC).

· Lead on the development of the MECW and DtC brand positions with the DtC CEO and MECW senior management team, retaining a strong visual identity and advocate our external profile and reputation.

· Lead on conceptualising and executing diverse events, from local climbing competitions to virtual campaigns, playing a pivotal role in fostering a vibrant and engaged community. 

This role will involve weekend and evening work from time to time, as it requires attending events taking place at The Wall, as well as attending Board meetings when needed. Extra points if you have climbing experience/ knowledge!

Today, in addition to supporting people who have a visual impairment, we offer education, support and guidance for students on the autism spectrum, those with moderate to severe learning difficulties, and students with physical and other disabilities.  We have a large, skilled and diverse staff team who can meet a diverse range of student needs.  As QAC has grown, we now have new educational and learning sites.  As well as the more well-known campus in Harborne, there is the QAC Pinewood campus (dedicated to employment progression) in nearby Woodgate valley and in addition, QAC Umberslade campus (dedicated to horticulture and outdoor learning), in nearby Selly Oak.  QAC offers a broad range of study programmes that are tailored to ensure each student receives the educational, therapeutic and support services that they require, helping them achieve their aspirations for adult life. 

Our supported living programmes (Independent Plus) and Community Services offers support after leaving college and to those from within the local community. The marketing and communications team is responsible for marketing QAC services with the main focus being on student recruitment. Following a recent re-brand, the post holder will also be integral in ensuring an efficient and effective roll out of the new branding.

QAC also has an enterprise arm consisting of Sight Village (a touring exhibition supporting those with sight loss), All Formats (a transcription service) and Carbon Fibre Canes.  These are all supported by the Marketing and Communications Team.

This exciting role sits within our national team and will lead the ongoing development and delivery of Thrive at Five’s external communications, ensuring we can reach and engage with a diverse range of audiences from national early years influencers to parents in our regional sites. The role will have two main areas of focus: 1) National communications: establishing Thrive at Five’s national presence to influence policy, funding and practices and attract future partners (funders, future pathfinder areas and other strategic partners); 2) Regional Communications; work with our local backbone teams to deliver a communications strategy which supports our two strategic drivers; 1) to build relationships and strengthen understanding of the early years with key professional stakeholders, and 2) to reach local parents to build their knowledge, confidence and skills and encourage them to take up support on offer.

You will have solid strategic communications experience, with an excellent track record in developing and executing innovative communications plans. You will be comfortable working in a fast paced environment and committed to the need for continued learning and improvement necessary for Thrive at Five to develop a new place-based model for supporting early childhood development. The successful candidate will bring experience of managing a broad range of stakeholders and supporting a network of partners and will be adept at managing and coaching staff, with the ability to upskill team members. You will also have excellent organisational and project management skills. It would be beneficial to have experience of working nationally with engagement across local teams, and ideally with good experience of how to best utilise digital communications.

The Role

The Role

You will build trust with people the charity is sharing a story on behalf of and foster lasting relationships. You will manage media contacts, seeking out relevant opportunities in the press and work with partners on features.

Main duties and responsibilities include:

• Lead on storytelling - writing effective and powerful stories to meet the needs of different functions, including fundraising materials, direct marketing, social media, sector reports and events, press opportunities, website features and publications.
